Char-Griller Akorn Jr Kamado Portable Grill & Smoker $148 (Was $248) + Delivery Only ($0 OnePass) @ Bunnings Warehouse

370

Must be price match Aldi one. This one is much better. I have a normal size one, very happy with it.

The Char-Griller Akorn Junior Kamado provides convenience and portability, ideal for patios, balconies, picnics and camping.

The smaller and compact size won’t disappoint, with all the features needed to regulate temperature, including dual dampers, a temperature gauge, and triple wall insulation, for perfect results every time.

We recommend the Char-Griller 'Akorn Junior' Kamado Cover (I/N: 0088365) to help protect this Kamado (sold separately through Special Orders).

    • My store had 6x yesterday. Sold out today. Dang it.

    • You meant no stock near you

      • Stock checker is showing 10x units across the entire country…. I think 'no stock' is a fair summary

        • Unless you're near the stores with the 10 units, then it's incorrect

    • Note that the stock levels on these sites are no longer accurate. Been documented for a while now. Bunnings changed the API and made it so these sites don't work.

      • Was going to say I saw some in my local bunnings last week

  • Fyi I had one, because it's small, much harder to control temp. If you overshoot your temp, takes ages to drop temp, if you try to drop too quick by restricting airflow, the fire goes out. It's ok for whole chicken, as it's not too bad if temp high, hard for low and slow.
Got full size, much easier to control
This one's great for bbq, roasting or reverse searing, gets hot real fast and retains heat quite well.

    • Is this the full size one you refer to?

      • Correct. Although I got mine bbq galore. I've compared both, newly identical

      • the one you point too is actually metal with some ceramic insulation, it's not the same. Real full size is this one - https://www.bunnings.com.au/char-griller-ceramic-kamado-gril…

All the downsides mentioned above are valid for any real kamado, once you overshoot it will take ages to drop the temp, but with some practice you will learn when and how to react on that. But this is the whole point of kamado - it holds the temperature as if it is the last valuable piece of his life, which makes it super convenient for overnight smoking.

        • The mini one is also metal with insulation.

          • @Stivo: yeah I had to double check, you are right. At this point I'd say it is a kamado-shaped object

    • Mate sold his for the full sized one that he uses more often now. This one just sat in storage because it was difficult to control temps…explains why it's on sale I guess.

  • this is great for someone who doesn't eat much or is bothered firing up charcoal for 1 meal.

    I have this and a large 1.

can do 2kg brisket on it
can also squeeze 2 small chickens at best

  • Currently 5 in boxes in Innalloo Bunnings

  • Been this price for a good long while, I had it in my cart like 2 weeks ago…free delivery via OnePass it says…until you go to pay and it says you have to C&C. Said that a week and a half ago when I went to buy too. Can't imagine there's somehow more in stock since then. Good luck to anyone who stumbles into one, but I doubt you will if you're out looking for it.

  • My wife complains there a weird taste/smell on food that is cooked in it. Not sure why. I even washed it out once but still the same. I can't taste or smell what she is on about. I use normal lump charcoal. Also used the same fuels on my habachi and it's doesn't have the taste/smell apparently. Anyone had anything similar or suggestions. Its a great little bbq don't really what to get rid of it, even upgraded the seals.

    • Maybe the charcoal and the kamado are interacting? Im not sure what other types of fuel you could try. I envision some light-coloured wood chips might not create strong flavours

  • Thanks. Got the display unit for $80. It is suspended stock.

  • Is there anything a bit less high for camping and easy storage? How are Weber ones if anyone tried those for picnics or camping ?

  • Build quality is awful. Lots of enameled paint chip, sloppy paint job, slightly misaligned lid, etc. But if you don't mind those then it's a decent kamado with good heat retention. It will probably not gonna last long considering a lot of people have rust problem.

  • I take it for camping and love it
I’m in my second unit as the first one corroded over the years.

  • Just checked my local.

This markdown is on the red model, which is the older model.

The black one is in stock but not marked down.

  • I have my red one for 5 years. No rust problem, as I never left it outside. Still loving it.
