  • Great printer at $246, has served me well for the last 3 years. Generic toner (ink station etc) is cheap enough. Duplex scanning and printing are very handy, worth it in every respect.

    • Thanks for the recommendation regarding generics…. When first purchased, they didn't have generic toners for this one.

Looks like eBay also has a number of generic toners also.

    • Agee 100%, quite happpy with printer. I am about to runout of their first toner…Branded refills are way too expensive, but I'm worried generic ones will ruin my printer. Yours wokring okay on generic?

    • Great.
Can you send your scans to clouds like Dropbox or One drive?

    • Thank you. This glowing review. helped me decide to purchase.

  • Great printer. I have the previous model, and bought this one for Dad recently to replace his ~10 year old printer. He loves it.

  • Does this support snap dragon re scanning?

    • That's why you don't buy ink printers and get a laser one instead, just like in this deal.

    • Ridiculous take.

  • Does anyone have any reccomendations for a similar printer to this one but prints in colour… and accepts generic toners? I understand that I will need to prevent all firmware/software updates as soon as I get the machine to prevent it from gaining awareness lol.

  • Lol gaining awareness… Brother DCP-L3520CDW $378 at OW also on Amazon same price.

Not bad price for colour laser

    • shame this one doesnt have the document feeder… otherwise i wouldhave bitten

    • Brother MFC-L3775cdw - Personally, I'd spend a bit more and go for the MFC-L8390cdw.. Duplex Scan is worth it IMO.

      • Bit more like double the price ?

        • We're talking about a colour printer which can scan/copy etc.. Double the price of a MFC-L3755cdw? Maybe if you're looking at Officeworks. I'm not allowed to advertise on someone's bargain post, but I know the L8390cdw can be purchased for $544.02 if you're in Perth. That's only $70 more than the L3775cdw.

          • @PrinterGuy: Was comparing the price to Brother DCP-L3520CDW

            • @Tehcookiemonsta: Ah yeh, makes sense for a standalone colour printer.. I should have used the "@ Shonggie" to reply to his message based on needing a doc feeder to make that clear.. my bad. Cheers Cookie.

  • Have this printer.

    Hasn't skipped a beat.

Easy to scan documents directly to email.

Easy to print from the phone or laptop without cables.

    Recommended.

  • Somehow when checking out it reduced from $246 to $236 with $10 promo applied.

  • Why not MFC-L2820DW? $209 on Prime

    • Missing duplex scanning, if that’s important.

      • I'd miss it twice if each time got $40 off :)

        • $40 extra is well worth paying to avoid the 4D chess moves required to double sided scan on a single-sided scanner.

          • @OZKap: *if ever required. Also this kind of scan is not friendly to paperclips and unusual sizes an so on.

            AI found 2 more points:

the cheaper runs smaller cartridges, just 3000 pages while costs about the same,
and uses PC RAM instead of own RAM (no difference if you don't print books or heavy graphics.

            • @Ozzster:

              *if ever required.

You've never had to copy or scan a double-sided document?

Also this kind of scan is not friendly to paperclips and unusual sizes an so on.

Just because a printer has duplex scanning capabilities does not make it incapable of scanning other things.

Both printers are equipped with a flatbed scanner for scanning irregular things. Paperclips and staples can be removed to use the document feeder for scanning/copying.

              • @OZKap: Exactly. Using flatbed = no double sided scan unless 4d chess or 2 clicks of mouse to rotate.Same thing, but 40 cheaper. With the same cost of toner and slightly smaller size its ideal for WFH, + 30% tax refund. For140$ this is a real bargain.

                • @Ozzster:

Exactly. Using flatbed = no double sided scan unless 4d chess or 2 clicks of mouse to rotate.Same thing, but 40 cheaper.

                  What do you mean here?

2880 can duplex scan or copy a stack of documents without intervention

2820 cannot. You need to simplex scan the stack, rotate/flip the scanned pages, then put back into ADF.
To double-sided copy on the 2820 you also need to flip/rotate the 1-side printed output halfway through.

  • Where to get the third party toners? So when received need to turn off the auto update?

  • does anyone use fax anymore?? just get a normal printer

    • I doubt you'll find a multifunction printer with duplex print/scan/copy but without fax.

      • Brother HL-L2464DW, same promo on Amazon. However, from all Brothers discusssed, this would be the worst.

    • You used to be able to buy similar model printers with or without fax… now they either include it (most Brother printers) or they don't (most Kyocera printers - you have the option to purchase the fax add-on later)

It's probably just easier to keep the fax attachment for Brother than over complicating it.

  • Brother's recently increased their pricing this month as well, so this price is definitely good. I can't even buy it for this price.

  • Good printer though it regularly disconnects from my wifi and only a power cycle fixes it.

    • Two things you have probably tried, but in the network settings, try setting your IP address to Static. If all else fails, try updating the firmware (No idea what Brother is doing, but this might cause an issue with your current compatible toners) Might be worth reaching out to your supplier first if you're using aftermarket toners before doing that to be safe.

      • Thanks. Yes already tried static and didn't upgrade firmware as want to use aftermarket toners.

  • Does this used chipped cartridges to lock you in to purchase genuine cartridges? Or, can you use ‘just’ generic carts?

    • You can use generic carts. Never had an issue with providing these.

  • Can it be soft-reset like other budget Brother printer? This is important for refill and utilising the last of the cartridge.

  • Thanks OP. I bought one. If anyone has recommendations for where to get generic toner, I would really appreciate it 🙏

  • As soon as I tried to buy it, Amazon decided to use non-default outdated payment method and locked my account automatically cancelling all orders. Support didn't reply until the promotion ended and refused to sell it for the promotion price after account was unlocked. Good job, Amazon.
