  • I still miss the g86 power deal…

    • I wish i got one…

    • Still super happy I got the Signature in the previous Telstra deal, ended up paying $234 out of pocket for a flagship phone.

  • How do these two phones compare in terms of camera performance and quality?

    • The Motorola Edge 70 clearly outperforms the Redmi Note 17 Pro. While the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 isn't a flagship processor, it still delivers far better performance than the Snapdragon 6s Gen 4

    • Pretty average, they have the numbers but the image processing is far lacking compared to the big players.

      • Not really fair to compare a $400 phone camera with stuff costing $1.5 to $2k though.

        • but what if I'm comparing it to the pixel 7 and 7 Pro i brought under $375 and

my old Poco f3 and mi 11i (has 108mp sensor)

          • @SkyeMG: 7 pro wasn't that price new

            • @Brianqpr: well when it launched no

but i got it for that price w that amaysim stuff…

              still options

            • @Brianqpr: Pixel 7 Pro has been as low as $299 brand new. There were a number of ATLs last year on Pixels which I compiled here.

    • I've had previous versions of the Redmi note and they are absolutely terrific value. Camera is nothing special but ok.

      • yeah it's a bit weird going from the Redmi 15 pro whcih has 200mp camera n stuff

    • $537 is better than $597 at Harvey Norman

      • Having a HN gift card is also worthless 90% of the time

  • Is 6gb sufficient?

    • If you don't play heavy mobile games it's fine.

    • Yeaaa I wish this one had an 8GB ram model.

        lol it does….

In China with bigger battery too.

        • Damn it!

          • @chinaman: Yeha wish they export that one hahaha

at this price point still crazy.

but even more crazy my old F3 being 8gb/256 for around $350-$400. and now phones downgrading to 6 🤮

        • So the aliexpress one spittle come in cheaper and with 8gb?

          • @chinaman: who knows

            • @SkyeMG: Looks like aud$350 for the 8gb/256 from aliexpress

Not bad.. Worth considering for those interested

              • @chinaman: Huh actually yeahh…

But damn just saw a video on its camera and gaming performance and its definitely budget level …

but tbh i mostly just use phone for web browsing and video n social media plus necessary admin apps etc so honestly still potentially worth w that battery life

              • @chinaman: Oooh no eSim and some china specific stuff tho so not ideal either

                • @SkyeMG: Oh didnt spot that… Though i don't use esim

                  • @chinaman: An esim adaptor is ~$20 on AliEx. I've used one for on my Xiaomi phone for years.

                    • @wisdomtooth: How do these actually work?

                      Do you use some app?
is there some open source app to assign eSims on them?

                      • @SkyeMG: I use this one, but if you search for LPA on app stores, you'll find that a bunch (that one was just the 1st that worked, and I didn't bother comparing to others).

  • Sooo I really want that xiaomi,

Compared to my current Pixel 7 Pro ( Tensor G2) 128gb

    and old Poco F3/Mi 11i, Snapdragon 870/888

Wonder which games better w this sd 6s gen 4

I'm assuming with it being 4nm, and being considered mid range chip,

Hoping it excels in general usage and video playback with longer battery life?

    • The 1080p video 30fps is where I couldn't make thev jump from a regular pixel 7

      • (profanity) your right didn't notice that

        https://youtu.be/DsrBebM-mko

        sussing out this vid rq.

Well to be honest I can still use my pixels and usually I carry two phones anyway.
My P7 Pro is already struggling with the phone dying or being like 50% after 2/3 hrs… or half a day out?

Need to charge it or put it, has 200+ cycles on it and slightly feels it runs hot easily, feeling like the same problem w my old xiaomi phones now 😭.
Hence feeling like need new phone haha.

        • I was on a Pixel 7, went for the $300 + $200 year plan with amaysim for the Pixel 9 pro XL recent deal.

Feel like its a much better phone this this option

          • @Pacify: Yeah i was keen on that 9 pro…

then it all went oos but slightly a bit more outta budget than I'd like.

Was considering these xiaomis the big new batteries should be nice I'm bored of pixel software and the 128gb storage now

      • Mine has 4k 30 and 1080p 60.

        • The Redmi 17 Pro or

Pro Max - which has it apparently ?

    • Dont go for this Xiaomi Redmi if you want use it for Gaming, its a very bad processor. Can be used for very light gaming but still expect stutters and lags.

This isnt a midrange, it far worse than it

      • Yeeeaaaa deems a bit baity,

Minus the cpu/gpu/camera everything else about it is fairly nice

  • Didnt know this kind of things exists, battery and screen replacement kinda make alot of sense

  • I'm using this phone right now. Got it on an earlier deal. Battery is crazy. Replacing a Redmi note 13 pro.

Every review I've seen is negative, but works fine for me. Not a phone gamer

  • Poco f9 ultra is what I'm looking to buy.

    • Wonder how that vompares to Lenovo Y70 - whcih seems to be around 400 usd on aliexp?
      or around $600

  • tried to use the code MT70AU26 at check out for the Motorola but got the error "code is invalid"

    edit: MCFSOCT10 works for both

  • Hey guys DO NOT get the Note 17 pro, have just returned one. The camera is borderline unusable (constant stuttering, not gonna wait for an update that might not come) and it's not easily fixed with using alternative camera apps. For a modern phone it's pretty unacceptable. It's a shame as the phone ran less smoothly (camera and otherwise) than my 5+ year old Redmi Note 9 Pro (this is with a debloating pass). I'd avoid.

    • I second that. I got this from Amazon and requested a return the next day. Lots of bloat ware, more then what I expected. I use wireless android auto and this phone struggled. It's fine for just navigating but the moment you add music or receive a call, it lags and at one point the connection dropped out completely only to reconnect moments later.

      • Yeha that sucks,

I hate how some of these new phones feel i agree.

I remember Android 9 on my Poco F1 felt amazing and with plenty of really cool and light features.

I remember playing rocket league sideswipe and having splitscreen and other stuff and it ran for hours.

Felt super fast but yeah now i also got a Poco f3 and that phone battery is fried, always runs hot, and homescreen etc super buggy.

  • Have a Xiaomi Redmi Note 16, so much bloatware, preloaded with a ton of rubbish

  • Motorola NEVER again. (Purchased Motorola Edge 40 in Australia in a normal retail store) Before Android 14: 1) When auto refresh rate was selected phone would lag DAILY, had to set to 120 locked. 2)Phone would heat up constantly 3)Auto adaptive intelligent charge never worked it would just say charging started charging stopped 10 times per second 4) The volume control was SO laggy would take 10 seconds just to recognise had to disable some obscure setting to make it work again after many months. Learnt to live with the rest. After Android 15 - 1) Some shortcuts not showing icons 2)Phone still lagged and the deal breaker which made me leave 3)The rear view camera JUST STOPPED WORKING BUT it would work in messenger and google/ microsoft lens, but not the stock camera app or viber whats app etc. Starting the default cam app would just show the selfie camera and when selecting the rear the phone cam app would just exit out and crash. Made the phone useless couldn't take personal shots or use the cam for work either. Useless software/android quality control made a perfectly good 2 year old phone useless. I went back to Xiaomi/Poco and my Poco F8 Pro is FLAWLESS thank god feels like I've come back home. NEVER will buy a motorola again no matter how cheap it is… All my xiaomi phones are rock solid, a blazing fast and just work. I was buying them from banggood for a while, until they went a bit smaller. I deviated and got that Motorola Edge 40 but never again. It was OK for a little but then all the problems started appearing. Now getting several phones from AliExpress and all working great. The Poco F8 Pro I prefer the slightly better pocketability as compared to the Ultra…

  • Love my moto g60 fusion, no lag, long battery, prompt software updates, sad that the 70 has less RAM, than the 60, might stay on my 60 until RAM shortage is over.

  • I have the Motorola Edge 70 and the Motorola Edge 50 Neo. I prefer the Edge 50. The battery lasts longer, the screen is way brighter (forget stats, this is in real life), the volume is louder and it's just a bit easier to use all around. I actually wanted the Edge 70 Fusion due to it's better battery but I was sold the wrong phone at The Good Guys and I couldn't be bothered returning it since I already had to return the one they sent me, which was also wrong

  • This is sad. Prior Redmi Note models at this price point used to come with 12GB RAM and 512GB storage. Like the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ which came with that. Now these modern smartphones are coming with only 6GB RAM and half the storage capacity with a slower CPU. It's worse in every way except for the battery. It's what the AI boom RAM and NAND shortage has caused.

  • Still rocking my Edge 50 Neo from a Black Friday sale a couple years back for $200. Hoping it goes another year.

  • It's anyone else having issues with the Motorola code not working? Edit. Nm found a comment above for the coffee to use.

  • Motorola Edge 70 8GB/256GB for $537 is expensive. Go to JB Hifi, they will sell them for about $400-$500 if you ask for a discount (plus Perks on top of that)

    • It's already discounted down from $899 RRP. So you think they will let this go for $400?. That's $499 discount from the RRP. That would be about a 55% discount on this smartphone that was released only a few months ago. Yeah i don't think they'll let it go for $400.

      • No, I don't think they will. I know they will, because they did. That's why I said =they=will=.

That said, I had slightly forgotten - it was $499 before further discounts.

Then 4% off that thanks to Macquarie JB Hifi gift cards ($479).

I forget what the Perks discount was (min $10, though)

      • Double checked my receipt: $471.23, minus 4% was $452.38

So yeah, exactly between $400 and $500! :-D

        • Yes but not $400. So the price they JB actually matched to was $471.23. The extra 4% off was because of a gift card deal through Macquarie. JB was not going to give it to you for between $400 and $450. More like between $450 to $500.
