Vaya 4G, Kogan or Aldi still not sure who to go for

My contract is up. I have been looking at a new plans over the last 4 months. I am still not sure which one to go for. Current on a Telstra S plan which is adequate for me. I am a light user.

After recently getting a 4g S3, I am enjoying 4G speed. However that is not the deciding factor. I like Telstra because I get decent reception when I go hiking in the Alpine National Park. Vaya's 4G plan looks like good value for a 4G service.

I do not need MASSIVE data. I prefer reliable service.

So can any ozbargainers give their personal experiance with these resellers

  • Vaya isnt on telstra i dont think…

    • Vaya is Optus. Boost is the other Telstra 3G reseller.

      • Vaya is optus. I listed it because it looks good for a 4G plan.

Boost isnt really good value for money. It is $40 per month. I can get 4G with my current telstra 'S' plan for $50.

I'm borrowing my friend's Kogan sim over the weekend to see what the reception is like at Mt Bogong.

  • After reading this, I might go for Kogan if it has decent mobile reception from Mt Bogong

  • I'd probably look at Vaya if Boost isn't worth it.
Coverage wise, Optus 3+4G coverage is better in more "commonly visited" areas and their coverage map indicates they ought to have as good, if not better reception as "gimped Telstra" in Alpine National Park. The only reason to choose Kogan/ALDI is if you regularly travel or plan to travel into areas where there is no Optus coverage but there is on Kogan/ALDI's coverage map (mostly mining sites by the looks).

    • I was going to go Kogan till Vaya came up with their 4g plan.
Lets see how I go this weekend.

      Thanks Einstein.

  • I can't vouch for the Vaya 4G services but just recently signed up for their 3G plans and find the customer service and other aspects to be pretty good. And it does seem like their 4G plans are cheaper than most on the market.

Just read the T&Cs before you sign for either Boost or Kogan

    Boost
    Excessive use
9.11 Unless a FairPlay offer has been promoted as providing unlimited calls or usage, you must
not use any of our FairPlay offers in a way that is excessive.
9.12 We consider that using more than 2500 minutes each month on any mobile service is
excessive use of our FairPlay offers
    .
9.13 In the case of FairPlay offers about SMS text messages, we consider that excessive use is
more than 100 SMS text messages from a mobile phone each day

9.14 In the case of FairPlay offers about MMS, we consider that excessive use is MMS sent to
more than 50 people each day where each MMS is sent to a mobile phone or email address.

Don't know how strict Boost is with their T&Cs since they are run by Telstra but Kogan has been cracking down hard.

    Kogan
 download or upload more than 400MB of data on a single
    day on three or more occasions in a 30 day period;

     download or upload more than 1GB of data on a single day;
 recharge your prepaid mobile Service Access plan more
than once per 30 day period; or
use the Service in a manner where your volume of calls or
texts within a single 30 day period exceeds the volume of
calls or texts made by 99% of users of the same type of
Service within that same 30 day period, as reasonably
    determined by Kogan
