HTC Butterfly 4G X920d (16GB, White) - $579.00 + Delivery - Kogan

30

Kogan is having this deal now, I thought it was just one of those not-so-good deals,
but after comparing with other sellers, noticed that Topbuy is slightly cheaper but without 4G.

EDIT!!!! - Kogan just removed 4G from the page, probably was an error.

Someone is bound to bring up the One as being a better phone, however I want to mention that the loss of the Menu button in the One really peeves me. It's not like they don't have the space for a third button. Instead the home button is moved to the right, and in the middle there is no button, just the HTC logo.

    Lame.

    • the One's specs are definitely better, but the price is definitely higher too.
I personally don't really care about the buttons, as I will get used to them eventually, just like when I used OneX to replace my Sensation XE last year - 4 buttons to 3 buttons.
(I still preordered the One, because I reckon it's gonna be much better, the battery life on the OneX is just horrible.)

      • Is the One also waterproof like this phone is?

What button are you going to press if you want to switch between apps?

To me it looks like the only reason they removed the mid button is because they otherwise had no more space to put the HTC logo. And they have too much pride to put it on the back like Apple does.

My OneX battery life is fine, though I don't know why you think the newer phone will have longer battery life… it's going to have twice as much pixels to push onto the screen, and more powerful processors, using up more power. Battery has a little bit more charge but I don't know if that will be enough to offset the increased power drain. If anything, I expect it to get even worse.

Which button did the HTC drop from the Sensation? The 3 that are left are kind of important. I guess if they allow you to hold down the home button it could double as a task switcher, but the loss of the menu button means you have to see 3 dots in every app.

        • No it's not waterproof, if I wanted a waterproof phone I'd buy Sony's Xperia Z,
to open multitasking, double tap Home on the One.

My OneX's battery life is only 8hrs (light use), according to reviews of the One, it can last more than 10 hrs - heavy use.

They dropped the menu and search buttons from the Sensation, so on the One X there's always the 3dots bar, and to enable search you have to long press home (on OneX).

        • My use ranges from light to moderate (I watch about 1 hour of video a day in addition to being on the web) and I get about 4 days worth before recharging…

Maybe something is wrong with your unit?

I always turn off data, wifi, GPS, and Bluetooth except when I need to use them. Sync is always off.

There's no menu button which means every app has to add an onscreen line with 3 dots on it. This bothers me, because it cuts some screen real estate. Even phones that have fully onscreen buttons and no physical/capacitive buttons come with 3 buttons.

They may as well copy apple and just do one button next. That's where it looks to be heading.

They dropped the menu and search buttons from the Sensation, so on the One X there's always the 3dots bar, and to enable search you have to long press home (on OneX).

This can be customized in the settings… I have the task switcher function changed to Menu (so I don't get the 3 dots). If I hold down that button, then it functions as a task switcher. So that one button has two purposes.

  • saw this deal a couple of days ago, asked about the support of 4G/LTE network, as i remembered that all Butterfly handsets do not support 4G networks, except J Butterfly and Droid DNA for Japan and USA markets, which use different 4G frequencies. Kogan customer service staff confirmed to me the one they sells support LTE 1800, must be a new variant/model?

    • I have no idea where they got their stock from, because Taiwan version's LTE has been disabled.

      • Butterfly was a flop in Taiwan. Way too many faults… random bits of sticky tape will come out of the side of the screen.

        • +1

i have read those posts, but generally speaking the HTC butterfly is still one of the popular phone in taiwan, the demand still high, even after the HTC One has released, thinking about getting one for wife. this kogan deal is more affordable compare to TW stock.

  • I have seen it physically in S'pore, it is gorgeous. Kogan website indicated that is has 1800 4G band, not sure what band Teltsra or Optus are using. Too bad S4 and HTC One has been launched, if this price was in Dec 2012, I think they will sell by the truckloads.

    • they are both using 1800.

  • Kogan has amended their product info, so it has no LTE support after all, just to let you guys know.
