  • The single core 1ghz processor sounds a bit weak for video decoding / streaming potentially…

  • Maybe a good stable device, but processor is single core, so would probably be a bit slow.

  • If you look around a little, you can still pick up the Astone MP-310DT 1080p Media Player for less than $90 - the best budget media player out there in my opinion, also comes with NAS funtion if you find yourself a cheap HD.

Would track down the Astone MP-310DT rather than this one.

    • I have an Astone 310DT. Agreed it's probably the best media player, but you need to know that the operation is very slow and clunky and after sale support is nearly non existent.

The next thing I'm going to get is probably:

      MINIX NEO X5

      Or Geniatech ATV1200
      http://www.aliexpress.com/item/MyGica-ATV1200-Dual-Core-Andr…

A lot more expensive, but probably worth it.

If you would like something very fast and customisable, look at a silent (no moving parts) mini PC like an Arctic MC001 (around $190).

        http://staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=arctic+mc001&sp…

You can run Windows on it, but for a faster and free experience, go OpenElec (Xbox Media Center) build pre-made for this device (latest XBMC v12.1 Frodo) here:
        http://openelec.tv/get-openelec/download

Just boot from a USB memory stick, switch to the ACE skin, and point it to all your media on your network so it can download all the artwork and Movie/TV Ep synopsis etc.

A Sandisk Extreme USB stick ($17) will run even sweeter than a $2 cheapie. Or an SSD inside the box. Also need a stick of laptop ram ($10-20).

Comes with an infrared receiver in the case - a Microsoft Media Center remote control (~$20) works with no config required - but pretty much any remote can be used.

Thought that might help someone looking for a fast/configurable media center device. SOOO much faster and better than my old Popcorn Hour media player that cost around $400.
