$76.45 is the lowest on Steam since launch - https://steamdb.info/app/1086940/.

    Worth every single cent.

This game is definitely worth your dollars.

If you like turn based combat and watching a computer play a game for long stretches*.

I have hundreds of hours in the originals but don't enjoy this at all. Cannot get the appeal.

      • +1

Didnt the older ones play pretty similar to BG3?
Unless you're talking about Baulders Gate: Dark Alliance which was more an ARPG and played more like a Diablo game. Those were super fun too, but quite different from BG1 and 2

        • -1

The Bioware games were real time with pause. You're never stuck watching an enemy walking towards your character and unable to move them away etc unless they're stunned.

Turn based is a limitation of table-top play which Bioware evolved past over twenty years ago. It's frustrating that they took the franchise name which was popular for moving away from that limitation and regressed it backwards.

          • @CodeExplode: Its based on DnD 5e rules. And DnD is a turn based tabletop game…
The Bioware real time-pause mechanic made it easily abusable by just having any enemy play follow the leader with one character.

            • @smalltime0: DnD is a turn based table top game because it's a limitation of multiple people playing on a table top.

Stuff like dice and taking turns around a table aren't needed in video games which have the power to get around those limitations, and Bioware worked that out >20 years ago and went on to make the best western RPGs for a decade, and other studios like Blizzard made games like WoW around the understanding that multiplayer fantasy adventure is now able to be done in real time and RNG is able to be done invisibly by the computer without needing slow clunky dice rolls each time you need a random number unrelated to the adventure etc.

BG3 feels like pulling teeth to me, watching dice rolls etc to generate RNG, which is only a thing in table top because it has to be to generate a random number while simulating an adventure, not because there's anything good about dice. Some people seem to prefer the visible branding over a good gameplay experience. By the third pointless dice roll dressed up like a flash casino game for gambling addicts to do some simple mundane thing I never wanted to see them again.

Such a good game but holy ***** it can be overwhelming. There is just wayyyyy too much to do. Just end up overstimulated lol

    • +7

Yep 100+ hours it took me and I maybe did 30% of what's possible…. Save often is my advice especially if you want specific outcomes which in my case added way more than the 100 hrs just so I get the results that I'm ok with 😂

      • +2

        save often

Haha the rng can be frustrating at times… not xcom 99% hit from 50cm away with a minigun but still miss type frustrating.. but pretty damn close!

        • +4

Xcom 2 is a game I've probably rage uninstalled at least 10 times in absolute rage. Great game too, highly recommended.

          • +2

@joshx: You won't rage uninstall this game… You may get disappointed but it'll keep moving forward with whatever path has been set out… If your anal about your decisions like iam then it'll definitely test your patience….

        • +1

Hahaha yeh I know … I lived with the rng but worse of all is not knowing when it'll hit you with a decision thats rng based… I saved any time i even whiffed a big confrontation or a boss battle or whatever… Sometimes reverting to the save then coming at the battle/convo a different way saved me so much time it's not even funny … It wouldn't surprise me if others went through the exact same experience as me but ended up with 150 hrs of game play…. I dunno I can't explain this game… it pissed me off and it's a masterpiece that may never be replicated all at the same time.

          • @scud70: Isn't that the whole point of a game based on a game that uses a 20 sided dice to determine outcomes?

            • @OzzyBrak: 💯, if your used to that type of game… Its not a game style I play, so says a lot that I put so much time into it… And I barely have time to play games these days. I recommend it to anyone just for the experience.

    • +2

and the ending and parts of the final chapter suck

wish it was as polished as the begining

  • +15

I bought this game when it received its official full release and I can tell you that it's a game that I'll definitely start playing soon.

  • +3

I think this method still works through GOG if you don't absolutely have to get it on Steam.

~$45. Can play with other steam players when you enter the unique server code when starting a multiplayer session.

      • This used to work well, but I've tried this recently with Tunnel Bear and it didn't seem to be working anymore - still showing AUD.

        • +3

It's working for me, I use Windscribe to Moldova.

      • Thanks for posting the correct link. Apologies I was on mobile.

        • All good no worries at all.

I held off from getting this in the hope of getting a non-censored physical copy for PS5, but after seeing how expensive and how long of a wait it was to get a copy I ended up just getting the full price digital copy. I've been playing it for the past month or so now and have to admit that it is living up to the hype and was well worth the asking price (just be prepared for every guy in your party being gay and wanting to root you!).

In hindsight though I should've just grabbed the Japanese physical release. The only possible censorship I've noticed so far would just be some swinging dong on the character creation screen. Maybe if I'd welcomed the advances of some of the Baldur Boys I'd have noticed more.

    • +2

      Your comment is hilarious.

I'm getting hit on constantly by the guys in this game, and I keep telling them bro we're just friends.
Also anyone notice they censored all of the massive dongs off the character creation screen? wtf? I wanted to see massive dongs. Also stop hitting on me boys, I'm not into that.

      • -2

I think your reading comprehension skills need a little work?

  • Worth this price but I used the GOG VPN method and definitely a bargain at that price. If your a steam head then def go for it.

  • +1

Any pre-requisites before playing the game?
Never played 1 or 2. Haven't played DnD either

    • +1

Nah. No need to know anything. Game has an easy learning curve.

    • +1

Have not played any DND game in my life before Baldur's Gate III and never played I and II and I absolutely loved Baldur's Gate III. Did not seem like I missed out on anything by not playing I and II. I highly recommend it.

    • This is unrelated to the original Bioware games, it's a different type of game and just using the name for marketing reasons. It has some minor incoherent story tie ins due to the name which will be less confusing if you haven't played the originals.

The lead creators of this haven't even played the originals, saying they preferred different games.

As a huge fan of the originals, the whole thing bums me out. But you don't need to have played them, they're basically unrelated.

    • look up some dnd rules or it gets confusing and u might end up wasting time

dont listen to people who overpraise this game

    • @goodwillN1 @GameBunny @CodeExplode @Freestyle
Thanks for the reviews relating to my situation. It looks interesting, I'll watch some videos before deciding but good to know the story is unrelated to 1 and 2 :)

  • Should I get this or dragon age acquisition?

    • This is very different and depends if your in to turn based RPGs with ridiculous decision tree's and the whole story and experience you have will be purely based on your choices and what things you complete or don't.

      • +1

I struggle with games with lots of customisation. Skyrim for example I can't get past the character creation.

        • lol, fair enough

        • Eh I spent about 5 mins on my character creation… It's not even remotely important in this game … Background you pick, style of play etc that's important but not show stoppers… It is an insanely long game though and you will miss stuff unless you have crazy amounts of free time …lol

          • +2

            @scud70:

Eh I spent about 5 mins on my character creation…

It seems silly, but I think the longest I’ve ever taken is an hour, mostly agonising over details that I probably won’t notice long term.

If I’m going to spend 150 hours on a game, I’m definitely making sure I’m happy with my character.

            • @skittlebrau: To be honest it's usually 5 mins because I create a similar look in every game… Lol

          • @scud70: I got the beautypack mod, so it's really hard to get the right combination of appearance.

      • This game is filled with choices, Inquisition likely more your cup of tea

    • +2

Get Dragon Age Inquisition anyway since its free on Epic.

But BG3 definitely is worth playing.

  • +1

Great games, bought it on GOG a short while ago.

  • This would be killer VR title if a version ever comes out. 🤞

  • The greatest game of all time*, a bargain for sure. *Provided you are fine with turn based combat.

  • +2

    Not a deal unless it's 40% off 😉

  • "where your choices shape a tale of fellowship and betrayal, survival and sacrifice, and the lure of absolute power."

Instant buy if it was a story about love, deception, greed, lust and unbridled enthusiasm.

  • +1

Fantastic game. If you dont want vendor locking, and being locked or from platform because of your background, consider DLC free version from GOG https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/791492

    • +2

      DLC free

      DRM* free?

    Bug Gate 3

The company that made this game always said they would never discount it. Seems like they lied.

  • +2

Such a great game. Love the freedom in using your skills to do things just to see if the game lets you. Going from this game to Starfield was such a massive drop in quality and experience at the time.

Definitely worth replaying the game and trying different choices - my favourite boss fight for example can be missed.

I bought this full price and love it. I rarely buy games over $30 for comparison!
