Free eBay snipping service - GIXEN

25

GIXEN submits your eBay bid just before the listing ends, saving yourself from a bidding war.

Ever use eBay? Basically the idea goes you bid the price you want, and other users do the same so the price gets pushed up.

With snipping service, they bid for you in the last few seconds, so you still participate, but give other users less time to increase their bid. The main purpose would be to avoid a bidding war, or to avoid pushing prices up on that item no one knows but you searched so hard for.

GIVEN allows 10 scheduled bids for free, which should be sufficient for the average user.

A note of warning though - always think hard, and do research, when a site asks you the username and password for another site. Think about it and only use GIXEN with your eBay password if you trust them.

  • Many of these exists for years, much more trust worth ones come in forms of firefox plugin with unlimited snipping. However don't see what money you save here, you also can be outbid by other's higher maximum bids anyway, good tool but not a bargain.

    • You are right Noslee, but it requires that the computer be on and whatever program running, be it Firefox or whatever. And your clock accurate and internet functional. Of course the advantage is you have complete control -> so does sitting at the computer and manually putting in the bid.

By using a faster server to take care of this is another level of service, I don't think your comparison was fair.

Bidding wars can raise prices, say the item is on 99c right now, and you are willing to pay $100, someone else comes along and is willing to pay $120 for it. But because it's on 99c with only an hour to go, they decide to bid $50. You may have a decent chance of willing the auction if this is the case. Obviously eBay experts like yourself will take that into consideration, but I'm just saying not everyone do.

Again this is not for everyone. There will be plenty of people uncomfortable with having an external party manage their account for them.

All I'm saying is if you want an external solution without configuring everything on your computer and leaving it on, then GIXEN is a decent service, don't use a provider that charges for it.

      • While they might be a decent service, I guess the point was — free snipping tools and websites are everywhere. There are even open source solutions for it (JBidwatcher or esniper for example), that allows you to build your own tool on top.

So relatively speaking, not a bargain.

        • When I was googling I didn't find all that many free ones. Most do 5 per week/month, gixen allows 10 actives anytime. It's like saying there is no value in web hosting because you can do it on your own computer - php and MySQL are free.

But anyway, point taken. Is there a way to delete this entry or should I just leave it?

  • Not a bargain. And you risk losing ur account…

    • Yeh, agreed.

  • I've used Gixen for 2-3 years.
    Very happy with their service.
It is a bargain compared with some other sniper sites.

Cool. Look forward to hearing about free e-mail services, free news websites, free software etc. on OzBargain.

    • And free SMS, free Web hosting, free Open Days, free promotional samples. The freebies section is great isn't it!

Actually, thinking about it, I wouldn't mind hearing about free email providers that provide full pop & smtp access with decent storage and no tag lines. Just like I don't mind hearing about good quality free hosting.

Look, I'm just saying GIXEN is one of the better free services available for unattended remote sniping. In retrospect I think maybe the focus is too narrow to post. People who really know about eBay will know about these, and people who don't don't need it, only leaving people in between which is only a small proportion. I'm sorry and I'll keep this in mind if I post again.

oz bargain is hardly the forum for free internet services. We'd be here all day.
What next? The wonders of local libraries? If you want a free sniping service, Just Fucking Google It.

  • Why use a "service"? And how can you trust them?

Jbidwatcher runs on your own PC and is very good: http://www.jbidwatcher.com/

    • You research them first to make sure they are legit.
The advantage of using Gixen is that if something happens to your computer or you reboot near the end of an option, the bids are still made.
I pay Gixen an extra US$10 per year and that puts my bids on another remote server in case the main one fails.

I also use is www.sync2it.com (free service is limited to 3 computers)which syncs my bookmarks between office and home computers and between different web browsers (eg IE and Firefox) and also

www.digiportal.com Choice Mail which weeds out spam and unwanted mail by requiring new senders to place an online request which I have to authorise before I receive their emails. If I purchase anything at a new site or sign up for an email mailing list, I manually enter them into the database so that their emails are accepted. This is now a subscription service (US$30 per year) but it is worth it to me not to have to look at the spam and porn emails.

  • like alo1234 said this is in no way a bargain, i cant see how u save money with this post !!!
