$39.80 per kilo for jerky, albeit not the best tasting jerky, is a pretty good deal!

    Halal

    • +2

So, its good then. Christian can eat it too, atheist too. who else?
whats the difference between halal and kosher btw? anyone?

      • Has to do with the way the animal is killed

        • +2

Also the prayers. Kosher is much more expensive usually, halal is easier to find and cheaper.

        • One differentiation between Halal and Kosher is that before slaughter, Halal requires the praying to Allah. Kosher does not require a prayer to God before every slaughter to my knowledge

        • +1

A Christian or Atheist can eat it and the prayer they say over it is quite simple it's just basically in the name of god the most gracious most merciful. And just a little fact Allah and God are the same allah is just God in the Arabic language. So we actually all have the same god just different practices.

        • +3

          Yep…

        • +7

          What a load of crap.
Halal meat needs to be prepared as follows:
          * Allah's (God's) name must be pronounced during slaughter.
          * The instrument must be very sharp to ensure humane slaughter. The animal must be slit at the throat.
          * The animal must not be unconscious
          * The animal must be hung upside down and allowed to bleed dry. Eating blood is not halal.
          * These steps must be accomplished by a Muslim or the People of the Book (Christian or Jew.)
          * The animal must have been fed a natural diet that did not contain animal by-products.

          Unless you believe in halal

Such ignorance… you can't 'believe' in an adjective. You're the uninformed.

        • +1

          Yes

        • +3

which part of bible forbidding eat halal (or kosher) foods???
since when atheist forbid eating halal (or kosher) foods? is atheist become a religion now???

kosher, just like halal, also slaughter/kill the animal right?! even the atheist who eat meat!! or I miss something here.

@kwaker: so confusing with your statement.

        • No one said a a Christian or a Atheist can't eat halal?

        • +2

No one said a a Christian or a Atheist can't eat halal?

          Not true… kwaker did

        • +1

          My apologies

        • -1

No I didn't state that. don't take what I said out of context. I said christian probably can't - it depends on their interpretations beliefs and conflictions with Muslims whether their religious beliefs allow it. Its not for you or me to decide their religious beliefs.

Aethists probably wouldn't want to since they don't believe in or often oppose religion. Again its up to each persons interpretation of their beliefs and values.

        • +2

so you're saying there are some Christians who choose not to eat halal/kosher foods eventhough the bible never forbid it.

even more than that, atheist who don't give a f*** about religion or god suddenly become a religious one with their own rules. I was wrong then, I thought atheist means you don't believe in god, sin or hell so you can eat whatever you want. atheist now is more sophisticated, not a religion but has rules in regard of halal/kosher foods.

why suddenly they give a crap about halal things?? do they care about kosher too. any clue, anyone……it buffles me here with what's going on nowadays. it seems they don't care, but actually care. what happens?

          I just want eat jerky!!!

        • -4

Brongz stop pretending you dont understand then arguing your points of view.

Stop preaching to me I don't care less about your opinions on religion. You don't decide what is their beleifs and what they follow and if they are right or wrong.

No-one said anything you just said, which is total rambling rubbish. If you want halal jerky go eat it and stop trying to shove it down others throats.

        • -3

Heatseeker: It is your opinion its humane which does not match what the RSPCA reports or many other international agencies.

Cutting an animals throat while NOT unconscious is humane - if you think that the only ignorant one here is you. Cows screaming in pain is totally humane!

Just because you attack grammar doesn't make your argument right, it just means you haven't got a decent argument.

        • +3

whats the point of you stated this jerky 'halal' in the first place? what if it is 'kosher'?
whos trying to suggest people not buying thing only because it has halal/kosher logo?
they both slaughter the animal so we can eat meat, except vegetarian.

this is whats happening in our media too nowadays. sadly:(

        • -1

All that is written above if you bother to read.

        • +8

          According to the RSPCA website.

          Halal:
"The standard for meat production in Australia is that all animals must be effectively stunned (unconscious) prior to slaughter. The vast majority of halal slaughter in Australia complies with this standard. The only difference with halal slaughter is that it uses a reversible stunning method, while conventional humane slaughter uses an irreversible stunning method."

          Kosher:
"The standard for meat production in Australia is that all animals must be effectively stunned (unconscious) prior to slaughter. Kosher slaughter does not comply with this standard."

But really guys, I dont think it matters to 99% of people from outside of these 2 religions.

this stuff is awful, tastes more like gelatin than jerky… it also contains MSG.

    • -8

this stuff is awful, tastes more like gelatin than jerky

Is that what your partner says each night?

    • +11

Did you watch a report on Today Tonight or A Current Affair that MSG was bad for you, and every time you ate it not only did you get cancer, but kittens were killed because you dared eat the toxic MSG ?

      • I don't really care what the media has to say about it, MSG makes me feel nauseous, and many people are allergic to it as well…

        • +5

Well you're actually in a minority there so I guess you can feel special.

    • +5

Lucky me, I am one of the 99% of the population who suffer no ill effects from MSG.

From a health perspective most of us should be more worried about the rather high sodium content jerkies typically contain.

      • Mono SODIUM Glutamate. So you will see its effects in both the energy and sodium sections of the nutritional information panel.

But more importantly this jerky tastes awful.

  • +5

Guys, try Biltong if you've never had it before, it's much tastier than Jerky.

    • +3

That depends on who has made it and how.

      • …and when…

    • +1

And Droewors - being of South African Heritage I can say that I've had some crappy Biltong and amazing Jerky, but on the most part Biltong's better.

Droewors is hard to find in Sydney but it's amazing. Dried boerwors sausage :)

      • Yeah, old Biltong from supermarkets are dry and flavourless. South African shops are where the lekker Biltong and Droewors are at :) Luckily there are a couple of descent ones in Perth.

  • Does anyone have a link to the Woolworths catalogue coming out this Wednesday?

  • Beef jerky – a great way to get your yearly sodium intake in one delicious mouthful.

    Jerky is nasty

    • +1

Should try local fresh made, get varieties like Biltong pretty easy in most cities.

    • Yes the perfect High Protein/Lo Carb/Low Sugar snack is totally nasty. (Jerky from your local butcher actually has 0g sugar) I'll take my risk of eating a little too much salt in one day as you take your risks eating your 40% sugar Special K or similar 'healthy' cereal in the morning

    Has anyone tasted Roadkill Jerky?

    • I know this one, never try it though

  • I hope this comes to my local woolworths in Highfields QLD sometimes they are more expensive! Definitely will be buying if it is this Low tho! +1

  • This is not bad. Last time I bought 5 from Coles. Got sick of the taste after about the 3 pack. Pretty good value for dried meat.

  • Can we amend the title of the post to "candied meat" which would be a more accurate product description imo.

  • The ingredients in this product makes my skin crawl.

  • It's ok, but to be honest just about anything else on the market kills it.

  • +1 to this… just picked up 20 packets!!! yahoooo :@)
