DViCO TViX-2230 HD PVR $99 + $9.95 Postage

240

ModAccording to the comments from other owners, this unit does not actually have twin tuner.

I paid triple for one of these about a month ago. It goes beautifully.

You need to put a 2.5" hard drive in it to record and if you want to use wifi you have to buy the specific wifi adapter.

DViCO TViX-2230 Ultimate HD Compact Media Player and PVR Jukebox with Built-in DVB-T

The award winning manufacturer DViCO has given you the smallest personal video recorder with time-shifting capabilities on the market. With up to 1080i HDMI output, you will also enjoy high definition quality photos, movie and music files direct on your TV. You can also benefit from finally recording all those video tapes from the old camcorder onto one HDD when installed. The massive multimedia functions, such as slideshows with music, DVD jukebox and many more give this player endless functionality. The clean, simple user interface makes navigating around all that the R2230 has to offer is a joy. A must have for any gadget lover!

The R2230 will receive and record all types of terrestrial digital broadcasting signals. You can watch in now or later, or simply pause live TV and carry on where you left off when ready! The DViCO TViX PVR R-3300 is one such gadget, offering much more than merely TV recording. In fact, it's actually two devices rolled into one - a network media player and a PVR. Reap all the benefits this digital media centre can offer you while housed in a case smaller than your centre speaker.
1080i HD Player

While many PVRs only include a single TV tuner, the dual HDTV tuners within the R2230 allow you to record one 1080i channel while watching another. An easy to use scheduler allows you to record your favourite shows simply by entering the time and date. If you want to record the same show each week, let the scheduler know that it's a weekly show and you need never program it again. It is just that easy!

Personal Video Recorder (PVR)

If real life intrudes upon your favourite TV show, hit the pause button and the R2230 will start recording on the fly. Hit pause again and it'll play back from where you left off, but now you'll be able to skip through ad breaks. Time shifting allows you to rewind a live show by up to four hours (even more if you change the default setting), and then play it back frame by frame. It's a perfect feature for those sporting moments when you know the umpire got it wrong, and require blow-by-blow analysis.

Real-Time One Touch Recording

By installing 2.5" HDD hard drive or connecting to any USB storage device, the R2230 gives you ability record with various features like direct recording, scheduled recording through EPG (Electronic Program Guide). You can easily upgrade and expand the capacity of HDD like PC up-grading, it can back up the recorded files to or from the PC, Digital Camera or TV programs. It will also support movie files from Blu Ray DVDs such as VOB and ISO files with H.264 MKV playback. With the TViX PVR you are able to record your favourite programs by setting the scheduler, and with your weekly shows you just change the cycle. All you need to do is set the time once and forget about it!

Time-Shifting

Pause and replay live-broadcasting HDTV shows by simply pressing the pause button and then pick up right where you left off. The TViX PVR provides various file playback functions such as pause, instant replay, time-shifting with the scroll bar, fast-forward, rewind and so forth.

Looks like an interesting box. Found this site for a manual if anyone is interested in getting more details

    http://www.av-connection.dk/Contents/Doc/DVico/TViX_PVR_R223…

    • Hi, I bought a TVIX 2230 and am having problems with it. It has the latest firmware, V 1.8.2 but the EPG doesn't populate well, it varies how much information it gives, usually only gives me up to 3 days worth, and often only half a day. The other day it lost sound too. Is anyone else having the same problems? Bought it from OO and will contact them but I'm curious.

I also thought it did live rewmind but is that only through the pause function?

      Thanks

      • I have all the same issues that you have had, but I still love it.
I dont think the EPG works very well at all - I often have to be on the channel to get any information. Even then it is not guaranteed. ie. I am lucky to get an EPG description for the current day let alone the EPG for days in the future. I have also had the sound loss issue and have to turn it off and on again. It doesnt happen very often though. I also had trouble with the live rewind, but thought it was just me. For me, the positives such as the price outweigh the negatives.

      • happy to take yours off your hands if you dont want it!

      • Unfortunately I can't even get rid of it as I bought it as a package with a 32" tv which doesn't have an inbuilt tuner, so I actually need it. I know its an excellent price ($600 for a Panasonic 32" tv and the PVR plus $100 for the internal drive) but 2 of the said functions are dodgy and I actaully like to get what was stated. I already had a DVD recorder so I'm not sure what benefits this now has if the EPG doesn't work properly, except the pause button, which admittedly is very handy. I'd actually rather pay a bit more for something that works properly! Thanks for the input, much appreciated. Would still like to hear of anyone else that has a solution??

        Cheers

        • Hi Gaylem50 - would you be interested in buying it with the internal hard drive? Its a 500GB SATA 2.5".

          • @Cherryj1: Yes - depending on the price, delivery options etc - please email me at [email protected] to continue conversation…

            • @gaylem50: Cool, I'll let you know, I haven't decided what to do, its a bit of a dilemma. I really want a dual tuner but they're pricey, need to decide what to do.
              Cheers

              • @Cherryj1: I'm positive when i bought it from OO that the ad said you could record one channel and watch another, but it doesn't say that now. I think OO have changed the ad now that they realise the info was wrong. Its one of the reasons I bought it! I just wish I had printed out the information at the time. Does anyone else believe they've been duped?

  • If you wanted a dual PVR that played basic videos then it looks like a fantastic deal.

    • Just checked the specs from the manufacturer, this PVR only has a single tuner.

  • From original post: It will also support movie files from Blu Ray DVDs such as VOB and ISO files with H.264 MKV playback

Can it play h.264/mkv? Not specified anywhere?.

  • Interesting product indeed.

Anybody know cheapest for the specific wirless lan device?
    TViX WLAN-6200C

Also anybody got a recommended 2.5" HDD?

Ticks all boxes for me except lack of H.264, MKV and WMV formats are not supported
    otherwise would be snapping up.

    • looks like oo.com.au are selling them now. $60 is cheaper than I was able to find one. While it doesn't say it's the TViX WLAN-6200C. It's Realtek, the code is ELWL6200C, it looks the same and the packaging is the same as mine.

      http://www.oo.com.au/Realtek_Wireless_LAN_11n_USB_A_P27433C1…

      • You can get it cheaper from MediaNow for $39 shipped. With oo's price matching policy, you might be able to get it for $34.81 shipped. :)

edit: just noticed that oo don't do price match for electronics and computers. :( Still, $39 is way cheaper than what they are selling.

        • I bought this one (network stick for it)the day before xmas hasnt arrived yet….shops been closed… (until the 8th)
edit: finally got mine: review below

Dual tuners and H.264 support? Is this misleading advertise here?

    Look up the spec
    http://www.tvix.co.kr/ENG/products/PVRR2230.aspx

No dual tuners mentioned anywhere in spec and no H.264 support clearly stated so at the bottom.

    • The spec you linked to definately mentions the tuners are included (or embeded as they say in the specs).

I don't think anywhere the OO says that is supports H.264, in fact the specs you have listed under tha caution section specifically says that H.264 is not supported.

Sorry where is the misleading advertisement?

      • +1

OO words: "While many PVRs only include a single TV tuner, the dual HDTV tuners within the R2230 allow you to record one 1080i channel while watching another"

        vs

        tvix words: "DVB-T tuner embedded"

If you look at the spec of bigger brother "PVRM6640N", you will see "Dual tuner" mentioned.

"Dual tuner" is one of the key selling points for PVR manufacturers. They would have proudly mentioning it in the front page. Just look at the 2230 features and see if you see anywhere of such words. Compare with the 6640 here http://www.tvix.co.kr/ENG/products/PVRM6640N.aspx and you get my point.

As for H.264, OO's words "It will also support movie files from Blu Ray DVDs such as VOB and ISO files with H.264 MKV playback."

        vs

tvix words: "VIDEO : VC-1, H.264, MKV and WMV formats are not supported."

Would you believe in the salesman or the manufacturer?

        • Thanks I stand corrected!

Sorry I thought you were saying that the unit didnt have any tuners at all.

It is a bit alarming that there may only be one tuner included, as I just purchased one under the assumption that two tuners were included! I have emailed OO for clarification.

          Thanks for the heads up!

          • @busterau: Hi Kearnsy, I had the same problem, I bought it under the impression it was dual tuner but I think OO have changed their ad to what is actually correct so now I have no proof. Did OO get back to you with clarification?

  • Hey pete 123

do you need a 2.5" hard drive to record, or can you record straight onto a external hard drive (connected to the TVIX unit by USB). I read somewhere it can read and write from an external drive but not sure if it can record onto an external drive.

    Thanks in advance.

    • yes i think from product page/manual, 2.5" will be permanent fixture. USB 2.5" ext drives will be more easy though.

    • I had a play with it. If you can record onto the external drive I couldn't work out how to do it.

You can copy files to and from the usb drive and the internal drive.

  • Despite it not being able to h.264 or mkv I bought it anyway.
Seriously $99 for that cool little device is a bargain. Do some shopboting you will see.

Tie me over until the uber HTPC is built.
Will become a media player for kids after that..

dvico tvix is a good reliable brand and has a good GUI.

  • Is a there small unit like this one which has Component output like a mini port and you use a Component breakout cable maybe?

    • You little ripper. Thanks Ricky123. I was in the checkout for the OO deal above but got delayed long enough to read your tip. I have now purchased from DealsDirect instead & saved myself an additional $11. Legend!

    • Yes I was hesitating too so thanks for the update, saved $10+ Also + to original poster for flushing out the deal

Twin Tuners = can record one channel and watch another (ie play tv, most 'cheaper' pvrs, most media centres in pcs)
'true' Twin Tuners = can record 2 channels and watch pre-recorded tv at the same time. (ie Tivo, Topfield, etc)

Most people find the later more useful if they share a house or tv set up.

Option 1 is good if you are the only one using the device.

I can promise you, for the average couple you will need to have a true twin tuner device once you get used to the many great benefits of pvr's. Especially since there are many new channels….. and likely to be more.

    Just my 2 cents worth.

  • Here's a review of the product from a British site if anyone is interested:
    http://www.laymansreviews.com/review.php?id=49

It gives the impression that it only contains one digital tuner.
From my understanding of dual digital tuners, they usually require 2 aerial inputs. Looking at the product images, there only appears to be one aerial input - so probably think it's only one digital tuner built-in to the equipment.

    :)

    • some of them have an internal splitter, thus one physical output. It still doesn't answer the question of whether 1 tuner or two tuners present.

  • I'm split between getting this or a Bush STB with a front USB port which plays movies/jpegs.
    http://www.bushaustralia.com.au/productsite/details.aspx?pid…

I'll be using it on a Sony 68cm CRT TV.

The Dvico 2230 would probably make a better media player through the USB port but am just wondering what it would look like using Composite compared to using Component on the Bush STB.

  • ..damn it i got th e99+shipping one :(

that will teach me to look before i buy!
    hey its an extra 10%!

  • I cant seem to put it into my 'shopping trolley' on the Deals Direct website. Anybody else having issues?

Deals Direct are sold out - hence my inability place an order.

  • yeah sold out at dealdirect, but for about an hour ti was showing intock but you were not allowed to buy as the order kept getting canclled.

    Cust service no help.

Instead went with OO and did Moneyback link so get about $5 back so work out like $3 more via OO, still good deal.

    • did anyone get confirmation if it has twin turners?

      • It only has a single DVB-T tuner. The American model has a digital and an analogue tuner.

Can someone confirm that this thing can record a TV show onto the internal HDD and play video from a USB thumb drive onto the TV at the same time?

        • oh one of the american one would do me fine, I would love having the analogue turner as well, as I run two things on video modulators so that would be great, any idea where I could pick one of them up hmmmmmm am guessing it probably wouldnt work down here

    • How does the moneyback link work ???

  • It's also selling at COTD for $94.95 + $6.95 shipping.
    http://www.catchoftheday.com.au/smallfish_info.php?products_…

  • anyone got a free shipping coupon for COTD?

  • now sold out at oo too…

  • Hey I just set this up - without the hard drive and it works well as a HD set top box - so for the price it looks pretty good especially as most set top boxes sell for around the same price (well almost - there has been some at $79.95) worth watching out for this if it comes on sale again

    • Glad to hear it's also a HD set top box. I thought it plays HD only. Does the box comes with the updated firmware?

Most importantly, how is the signal reception sensitivity on this unit? I believe you also have the DVX Set Top Box. How does the reception sensitivities compare? My DVX box can barely hold acceptable reception on most channels using rabbit-ear antennas. I hope this performs better.

      • Good memory Pauly - re DVX.

Doesn't come with updated firmware and you need hard drive to do this bought 320G HD from MSY and it works well. Cant tell you about the reception - it does appear to be better than the DVX, thats all but no hard data.

Deals Direct have some stock but at $139

So far quite happy with it and just about to start upgrade

  • Anyone in Perth received their order yet?

I'm still waiting for an "Item has been Shipped" email.

    • Im in Vic, no sign of mine. Ordered thru cotd, they unsure if will get delivered by christmas. Who did u order yours thru?

      • I bought mine through COTD. Yesterday I received a "Your order has been dispatched" notice.

I was given a tracking number but I don't think AusPost updates it very frequently from memory. It was in a Melb Post Office then.

So it looks like OO has a faster shipping method. I'll keep that in mind for next time.

What would be awesome would be if AusPost delivered it over the weekend because I have to work until 7pm all of next week before Xmas.

        • Same here, saying dispatched at 9.55am yesterday but no sign of it at all. The ozpost website only says….
Event Date/Time (Local Time) Event Description Location
17/12/09 21:00 Manifest accepted MPF BULK LETTERS (PROFIT CTR)
17/12/09 09:59 Manifest received MPF BULK LETTERS (PROFIT CTR)

Does this mean it has been picked up by ozpost???

          • @dazzza: Yeah my tracking info said the same thing.

I just phoned AusPost because the tracking info hasn't been updated.
It's in transit and expected to be delivered on 23rd Dec.

    • yup got mine today in perth from OO

  • got mine in Sydney on Tuesday from OO. :)

  • I have set mine up and was really struggling with the reception. Could only really get SBS. Bought a booster/splitter combination , but I still couldnt get Channel 7,9 or 99.

So I bought TV/Video lead RG6 Cable(DSE own brand) from Dick Smith for about $10 – it came with 2 x F Socket to PAL plugs.

And surprise, surprise I can now get ALL channels – including 7,9 and 99.

It is a super thick cable. Amazing to think that the booster/ splitter combo cost $60 and still didnt work, yet this cable solution was only $10.

I also got mine from oo.com.au which delivers really quickly.
Firmware updated ok via the TV.

So now I am extremely happy ….

  • Hey thanks for the heads up. I purchased one today for $89.99 delivered. oo.com.au have it reduced to $99.99 for today with free Delivery and I was sent a $10 gift voucher from oo.com.au What a Bargain ! + I got a cashback of $4.50 though Money backo A Grand total of $85.49 Delivered.

    • Just wondering how did you get the $10 voucher?

      • If you had recently purchased something from OO they would sent you a voucher through email. I also got sent one from them when i bought this last time before christmas. If only I had a use for one more of these units i may actually use it :P

  • issue with upgrading frimware.

was in process of ugrading it to the latest FW but it stopped and froze at 90%, so I hit reset, now player only goes to startup screen and hangs……what do i do ?

  • received the network adapter for the PVR, its awesome, can connect to network shares really easily(samba which means it can connect to windows shares) or with its own gateway software, don't use mine with a HDD, just using it as a media centre, handles pretty much everything ive thrown at it so far, no shuttering over the network, (54Mbs) haven't tried a DVD ISO yet which they can apparently do.
dual tuner/h264 would be nice to complete it, but so good so far.

updated the firmware easily by downloading it unzipping it onto USB, then just clicking it.

only problem i had with the network is that it wouldn't connect at first because my network SSID was too long. once i shortened it, it connected no with no problem.
got my usb wireless from MediaNow for $39 shipped (thanks Pauly)

you can also apparently FTP off it but as i don't have a HDD for it i havent had the need too.

++ for features for this unit though.

after the firmware update it seems a little slower when changing channels for DTV and general reaction time… could just be my imagination.. but just something i've noticed…
would be great if h264 was included in a future firmware upgrade but i doubt the CPU is powerful enough and they would shoot themselves in the foot by reducing the market for the more expensive 6500

    • I got mine recently too after being convinced by ozpete's experience with it and I must say that I'm impressed with this unit. The user interface is much cleaner than most media players I have had the opportunity to test. For me, the only downside is that it doesn't play real media files. Otherwise, it's perfect in my books.

One thing with the wireless though, did you manage to get yours to work with WPA/WPA2 encryption? For some reason, mine would only connect using WEP. Perhaps this has something to do with the long SSID like you pointed out, though I have not really tried to shorten it. I might play around with it a bit more.

      • I read a few things about issues with encryption,
try updating your firmware if you haven't already
i thought there was something to do with the networking but i could be mistaken as i can't find it in the update log…

        http://www.tvix.co.kr/ENG/download/default.aspx?act=RD&pSeri…

"2. Sometimes 11n wifi dongle cannot get the DHCP from WEP security option. We recommend you to set the security option to WPA or open system."
odd as your having the opposite problem…

my network uses mac address filtering as it doesn't slow the network down so have no need for encryption… also makes setting up devices easier.

        interesting to note:
        1. Dual-recording is not possible yet. We found some performance issues, something to do with CPU speed. We’re still trying to make it work, but not sure.
wonder if thats only other sub channels on the same channel?

  • Bugger, the wireless is back up to $49 delivered.

    • he must have been selling a heap of them so bumped up the price, still the cheapest by a fair bit… also note that anything with that same realtek chip will work.

I found a heap of the 6200c's overseas in asia, if they ship worldwide they are only about 20 bux each…

  • I purchased a TVIX 2230 about a month ago but am not happy with the features when only using as a PVR, and I don't use the other features. Willing to sell PVR with 500GB internal hard drive for $200. Will arrange delivery if in Melbourne.

If interested, pls email me at [email protected].
    Thanks
    Cherry

  • Does anyone know where to get one of these for a good price? Thanks
