Inb4 comments about comments. Also, what's the likelihood of pricejacking before deal goes live? Hoping to get a cheap copy of DKTF

    • +3

About the best you'll do is this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/374684

I personally picked up 2 copies of Elder Scrolls Online from Big W for 7 bucks a pop for the deal, they were worth 6.50 odd to trade in IIRC, so 29+14=43. You ain't gonna get a copy for less than 43 bones.

  • +11

wonder how many items will go out of stock prior to the deal starting. fun times

    • +5

More like just disappear, vanish and out of sight. You won't see any traces unless you took screenshot. They never existed according to the stores, then when deal finishes everything suddenly magically appears back like turning back in time

      • +2

        sounds just like a movie.

  • +1

Hopefully we get some good deals this time

  • +33

Looks like the gamesmen jacked up their prices well ahead of time as well https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/PS4-Pro-1TB-Console-Brand-NEW-Au… $618.95 Haha

    • +18

Yeah I saw that. South Park on switch selling for $100….wtf! That's even more expensive than EB…..which is unheard of!

      • +5

I dunno.. EB have already raised their prices too. Not kidding when I say I saw the majority of games have gone up by at LEAST $20. And because most games are less than $100, this is more than a 20% increase! Having said that, I've never seen SO MANY games priced at $99.95 either.

You won't find a deal on EB Game's ebay store when this sale starts. Unless its some obscure loot item or hardware peripheral.

    • +2

      Booooo hissss

    • +16

      never buy from Gamesmen

      • +6

Starting to realise this after I preordered God of war and got it 6 days after releaae date.

        • +6

Yeah I had the same thing happen with Wolfenstein 2. Such a joke. Would never buy from them again.

        • +7

Pre-orders are never worth it. Just get it off the shelf when it's released. Think about if you got a backlog before purchasing any new games

I used have impulsive buying habit due to hype then it's stored away never touched again still shrink wrapped

Then comes a bargain for the same title and regret my purchase. The cycle repeats

        • @neonlight: Oh I've got a backlog.

        • @neonlight: Noted; we have preordered from EB only to find BigW had them much cheaper. EB don’t do price match after the fact. We have actually had Target do a price match before but it seems to depend on who you ask.

        • +1

@neonlight: "Kyle, preorder doesn't mean shit. When you preorder a game you're just committing to paying for something some assholes in California haven't even finished working on yet. You know what you get for preordering a game? A big dick in your mouth."

      • +11

        More like Lamesmen

        • +1

Nice. Didn't want you to think nobody saw this ;)

        • +1

          Games-meh…

      • Don't pre-order from games men, or like, at all

    • +4

God Of War is $102.95 through Gamesmen. Gross.

      • +4

$69 at target is probably going to beat any discounted ebay sale

      • +3

        lol

Have to keep supporting Big W and Target.

    • +3

The did the same for Xbox One X - $714.

      Bloody atrocious.

  • +13

time to stock up on vulnerable Nintendo switches ;)

    • No consoles, bah

  • Team, will this include drones? I am keen on getting the mavic pro

  • This has probably been asked plenty of times before, so to my understanding, the stores don't actually pay any extra for these 20% off, so why the price jacking?

    • +13

The stores almost certainly have to front some (but not all) of the discount. Its the sidewide 10% deals that the sellers don't pay extra for

    • I would assume they largen their margin that way

      • +3

        largen the margen

        • Embiggen the profitoliousness.

      • +1

        Lol @ largen

    • So they can make extra money.

    • +4

      greed

      • -3

Wrong, the gamesmen have posted on here before that they make a loss normally because they have to cover most of the discount themselves

        • +15

What's the point of doing it then?
Sounds like a stupid move unless they're not giving you the whole story, which is that it draws in a lot more sales to their main site and/or they make a killing off the other items?

        • +3

Why do they bother participating then? To exploit the unaware customers?

        • +9

if the seller is covering the cost

Then businesss supporting these deals are pretty dumb

Why promote eBay when you can do the same discount on your own website/store without paying shitbay

        • Depending on the deal they have with eBay. eBay may cover the full cost of the 20% off for larger retailers when they are newly onboarded to eBay. Subsequently it is normally a 50/50 split ie: eBay covers 10% and the retailer covers another 10%. There are others with lesser cuts. Whilst the retailer gets the sale volume, the customer information is owned by eBay alongside any analytics information from purchasing the product. Some retailers still prefer to have an eBay channel on top of their own website because the eBay demographic is different ie: bargain hunters vs loyal shoppers. There may be some cannibalization but in general it gives retailers some uplift in volume to hit their numbers

        • +2

The point is the non so tech savvy mums and dads just get ripped off buying stuff for their kids. The stores are taking advantage of those people

        • @Blitzfx:

I'd say they do it as another market. Alot of people search and buy off eBay and 20% off sounds like a good deal. People might not necessarily see their own website at all.

        • +2

@crazdewd: This is how it works.

I went into The Good Guys to ask if they could match the 20% eBay promotion and the said no because eBay overs half the cost.

        • @Aceboy884: Exactly, all they're doing is ruining their reputation.

        • @neonlight: Shame on them.

  • Doweyy it seems you have forgotten to list computer alliance because it isn't a deal otherwise.

    • +28

My bad, I'm going to personally ask computer alliance to stock toys and video games for next time.

      • +3

Thanks doweyy that would be great.

  • +2

Hopefully there's some good PS4 Pro deals but I doubt it with all the price jacking

    • -1

And I came here to neg them.

  • -7

    no computer alliance, no deal!

  • According to Whirlpool, it looks like Sony AU is experiencing a PS4 pro shortage. It might have an effect on PS4 supply from these stores

    • +1

There's been a pro shortage in Aus since its launch. You can usually get em from JB though

      • I got original ps4 console from JB back when there was a shortage on first release. like every other store was saying about a month on pre-order, JB got me it in a few days.
Not sure how or why, but seems JB can get consoles (or have stock already) when there is a 'shortage' .
Got it for like $99 with 12 months PSN card too :) (through some clever trading, bought bargain games on boxing day, then traded) .
Bought like 20 x these. Apparently the worst game ever "Ride to Hell Retribution" but traded for like $20 on ps3/xbox360 . https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/127808

        • Slowly single handedly destroying trade in deals 😉

        • @Putnum: Slowly doesn't work. Trade price goes down once they adjust their price for that 1 game. Traded all very quick, multiple stores :)
I believe that game is a collectors item now, as it was so bad, I guess people smashed disc or threw away.
Trades are, generally, very bad for the customer, CEX was great, but now they are just as bad as EB, ie. They trade a game for $4, resell for $20 . Poor games stores 😕 They are getting such a bad deal 😂

  • Sweet now my 3DS Games will still be overpriced :D

    • +8

3ds game pricing is delusional. The only way I get games is off Gumtree mums clearing out little Johnny's shoebox. No second hand 3ds game should be more than $20, but everyone lists for $30 or more.

      • +2

Oh yeah you gotta get those games from the people who don't know what they are selling for :P - I sit there on ebay and watch people pay more than RRP for games…..its ridiculous!…..$200 for a pokemon game….yeah I think not

        • Lol I waited and waited. My waiting paid off cause I got Smash Bros for $10 from some mum out there. Thanks mum!!

        • @freakatronic: Ugh! I've been waiting on that and Animal Crossing NL and cannot find them for under $35!

        • @freakatronic: I lost out on Smash Bros and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate for Wii U for $10 each from Facebook listings. :(

        • +2

@idonotknowwhy: Already done that, but like to have physical media too if I can help it and the pricing was reasonable. $10 each for those two titles is a steal (not the pirating type of stealing obviously).

        • @Fergy1987: everyone says such good things about animal crossing that I really want to check it out. As you say though, it's not easy to find it for a reasonable price.

        • +1
        • @freakatronic: I tried Animal Crossing once, returned it to EB two days later. Absolutely NOTHING happens the ENTIRE game. Nowhere interesting to explore, nothing interesting to do. You just pick cherries and sell them and buy furniture for your house. I can't understand why anyone other than 5-year-olds who still play imagine games would be interested.

      • +6

        freeshop ftw

      • I have a sky3ds but when I fall in love with a game I need a physical copy of it. As well as that, games like Mario Kart 7 and Smash Bros have active, free online matches that don't let you in if you're playing a ROM. It's easily worth the price of a cartridge to get online matches anytime.

        • Jailbroken consoles and games installed from a .cia or the Freeshop work fine with online

        • @ShadowStealer7: i installed cfw about 3 years ago and havent been online with my 3ds since. im afraid of bricking or something that may happen if i go online

        • @tomkun01:

You can get banned not worth the risks

        • @neonlight: Don't use your real Nintendo account.

        • +2

You can only not play online if you're using a flashcard like a Sky3DS or Gateway, which are now completely obselete.

If you follow the 3ds.guide you'll be able to play ROMS online without any problems, and even download them directly to your 3DS from Nintendo with the Freeshop.

Nothing stops you from buying games as well, I have a huge physical 3DS games library, and always get collectors editions, but when a 3DS game is under 1GB usually, and a 64GB Micro SD costs $30, it's good for trying out games that would normally be a risky purchase as you don't know if you'd enjoy them.

If you decide to buy them in the end, it takes literally seconds to use JKSM to copy your digital save to your physical cartridge.

        • @tomkun01: Nintendo has NEVER bricked a 3DS for being modded, probably due to a bad experience bricking modded wii consoles in the past, when a lot of legitimate users had their consoles bricked, even some brand new.

If you have your CFW up to date, you can even reverse any bricks that could potentially happen, and if your CFW isn't up to date, you can still recover your console by using a $5 DSTT as a recovery cart to launch GM9.

As for anything else that can happen, there was about 2 ban waves in the past, but unlikely to be any more since the 3DS is reaching EOL. I'm a collector and own around 10 3DS consoles (new, original, XL, new XL, new 2DS XL) which are all modded, and have all been modded since before the banwave. None of them were banned from online, and even if they were, I could easily unban myself since the console has CFW.

        • @RocketSwitch: Your console ID gets banned as well, usually your NNID isn't banned. You're not meant to be able to change your console ID, but you can change it in a few seconds if you have CFW using GM9, but you need to replace your banned ID with an unbanned one from another console, or found online.

Chances of being banned are really low though, I have over 10 3DS consoles since I'm a collector that all have CFW and I never had a single one banned in either of the two banwaves, one of the banwaves appears to be due to people playing pokemon online before it even released though, so it's pretty obvious they'd get banned for that.

        • @neonlight: Only if using a flashcart. If the game is installed, no risk.

  • Anyone know if these guys are likely to have good deals on Thrustmaster controllers?

    • +20

I'm not sure that those kind of toys are in this sale

  • So will this mean cheap PSVR aim/move controllers?

  • -1

I'm only in the comments to find the search link

    • -7

      there you go

  • Hopefully some decent NVIDIA Shield deals

    • +1

Would just wait for the next amazon sales (or probably even current price). Great experiences with mine for the past year.

  • Just as predicted, another sale pops up before one ends

  • +2

Please note, I'm actually not 100% sure whether this will actually apply to Consoles, the Categories don't give 100% guidance over it, so keep that in mind. My apologies for not initially stating that, I just thought it would but the categories aren't very clear on what it will fully apply to.

    • +1

Yeah I think you're right - games fall under "Video Games (139973)"
Whereas consoles fall under Category No: 139971

Don't think consoles are included unless they are listed in the wrong category unfortunately

      • +1

Yeah :( I hate giving false info, apologies to anyone who voted because of the console info. Hopefully it's okay.

    • +1

Yeah. I noticed it only lists the following categories… (I guess we will have to wait and see what gets included):
      * Toys, Hobbies (220)
      * Video Games (139973)
      * Video Game Accessories (54968)

  • Looks like I'm going to be spending again.

  • praying for far cry 5 pc deal\s

    • It's on fitgirl mate. Inb4 I get downvoted to hell.

    • get AC: Origins, its much better and has less bugs, crashes.
