Oh wow. I just bought the black version last week!

  • yeah they should make the god of war controller that price :D

You can tell Sony has been doing a good job meeting demand when even stores like the gamesmen stops scalping people

  • +12

The quality has gone down since ps3. My controllers have the issue where the cursor keeps on moving left.

Happened to two of the controllers.

    • +8

Have heard a lot of reports of PS5 controllers getting stick drift. Pretty rubbish for such an expensive purchase.

    • +1

That’s rotten luck. My two are doing great so far. Both from launch. Are Sony being held to account like Nintendo and their JoyCon drift? Not sure how you’d go raising the issue with their support..

    • +3

replace the sensor with Hall-effect sensor.

      • +2

Just need to spend $30 on sensors, then money on a new soldering kit, have the time, patience and a steady hand…… screw it I’ll buy a new controller

I've had to exchange all 3 of the DualSense controllers I've owned under warranty. 2 had bad stick drift and one had a faulty headphone jack. To their credit, JBHifi have been awesome in their handling of all 3 cases. For the stick drift issue, they hooked the controllers up to their computer system, ran a stick drift detection program and exchanged the controllers on the spot. I 100% agree with you, though - I have 3 DualShock controllers from my PS4 that are ancient and have thousands of hours of play on them - no issues whatsoever.

I bought a purple one last year when it was on sale at JB thinking that it’s a second batch that doesn’t have the drift issue.

A month ago it starting drifting left but I haven’t had the chance to replace it yet. And it just past the one year mark.

Will JB replace it? Australian consumer law is 2 years right?

        • Manufacturers warranty through JB gives you 1 year

        • +1

AFAIK, this is a grey area. One would hope you’d be covered under ACL provisions, but to some extent the in-store handling of an out of warranty case would be at the discretion of the staff member helping you.

My most recently problematic DualSense was 13 months old when I took it to my local JB, and the staff member said technically he should be getting me to deal with Sony, but he kindly processed the exchange in-store.

I’m not sure if that decision was based partially on my significant spend history at that store, though. My advice is take the controller in, be polite and honest with the staff member who assists you, and try your luck. If they refer you to Sony, you can always ask to speak to a supervisor and see if they’re prepared to negotiate an outcome…

          • +1

@omega595: I brought it in to a store and initially the staff behind the counter said it’s out of warranty and there’s nothing they can do

I then quoted ACL and then the staff checked with the manager and they gave me a replacement.

Yeah I had a controller at the end of last year that came with the ps5 Ragnarok deal from eb games and I also had to return it after 5months due to joystick drifting…. Lucky I still had the receipt.

    • +2

      Yeah.. controller Drift!

Our PS4 controllers were trash like that!

      Hardly used and drifting :-/

It's been getting worse each gen man.

The PS1 Dual Shock (without the pressure sensitive face buttons) is bullet proof.
The PS2 Dual Shock 2 has issues with the resistence in the membrain failing, causing the buttons to appear pressed when they aren't.
The PS3 controllers have shot analogue sticks and issues with the triggers.
The PS4 dual shock got issue with the USB-B ports fairly often.

And these days, all the controllers kind of suck.

      • +5

The community have developed a series of USB-C boards that just swap out from the MicroUSB that the PS4 controller ships with, you can take apart the controller to see what board you have and then order the USB-C replacement and it just swaps in without soldering :)

  • Are these the older stock with the stick drift?

    • +5

Even the supposedly newer batch also has stick drift. See my comment above.

  • How well do these work with windows 11?

    • +8

With Bluetooth, perfectly fine. But I do have a high end motherboard that comes with a Bluetooth 5.2 antenna, PS5 controller works from 20 metres away and through 2 walls as well (for testing). So, I assume even with a dongle from close range it should be fine. Much better than PS4 days with PS4 Controllers.

Also, if you play anything competitive with a controller, with a USB-C cable + DS4Windows + 8000Hz polling rate hack on USB you get 0ms respond time. Instant reactions.

      • does ps5 controller work natively in windows 10/11
and recognized as an xbox input controller in games immediately
or do you need to install some extra software etc?

also does dual sense and rumble work in the games?

        • +1

Depends on the game, plus Steam has steam input for the ones that don't support it natively. Also, you need it plugged in to benefit from the haptic and adaptive triggers (for those games that support it). Windows does recognise it as a gamepad, and used wirelessly you will still get rumble but not the haptic and adaptive triggers.

          • @tony2shanks: what is difference between rumble, haptic and adaptive triggers?

does it work properly outside of steam for other launchers like epicgames?
or you need to install extra software and what software?

            • +2

              @pinkybrain: I can't speak to other launchers as I haven't tried honestly.

Haptic feedback is directional and different strengths of rumble I guess, depending on what you're doing in game, it's very immersive in my opinion. Like if you get shot on the left side of your character's body you feel it in the left side of the controller for example. Regular rumble is just a static vibration.

Adaptive triggers change in tension and the force required to push them, depending on the game. Great for Spiderman swinging for example.

If you ever need software, I believe DS4 is what most people use, I haven't had to use it.

            • @pinkybrain: If you are using it with other launchers it's dependant on what the game supports. You can get third party software for the DS5 though.

  • Dang! That is cheap!

  • Great price! Awesome controller. I’m going to hope my one controller lasts, don’t want to own a backup just in case.

  • Legitimate question - I used to always have multiple controllers for racing games and split screen back in the day - what do people use multi controllers for these days? Other than say - fighting games.

    • +2

Still a few couch coop games around. It takes two was a great one

    • +2

Still using multiple controllers for those exact same reasons 🤷‍♂️

      • Gotcha - sounds good - just wasn't sure there were many split screen games around these days and trying to see if I should just Ozbargain it and buy sight unseen (just grabbed a PS5 so no games yet).

  • I ordered one to use with my iPhone LOL

Maybe I should have got another 8BitDo controller.

But then I'll probably get a PS5 at some point…

  • Don't need, don't have ps5 but I like the deal and buying it

  • +1

    The drift is plague
