The other deal if you need more data: Catch Connect 1 Year Prepaid Plan: 120GB $119, 200GB $150 (New Customers Only) @ Catch Connect

  • is it really activate within 2 years?

    • +1

That's what it says, it's also on the letter you get with the sim.

    • Think it says "Activate SIM within 30 days of purchase, or by the date advertised in a promotion, whichever is earlier"

The cost of these lower end plans is going up and up.

As OP rightly pointed out - Last month it was only $89.

Hence paying $10 MORE than last month and forever before that, I cannot call this a "deal" in comparison
Its just a "regular" 1st year discounted price.
Hence everyone gets in on a cheap price for the first year.

Best wait till they drop it back to $89 again - probably next month!

Alternatively the 120GB plan for only $119 is much better value if you plan to use more than 60GB over the year. (same price as previously)

It should be pointed out these CatchConnect plans have NO OTHER INCLUSIONS
Hence nothing to lose by activating some time later

How do they determine 'new' customer? I used Catch Connect between July 2022 and July 2023. I've then used Coles mobile. Would I qualify as 'new'? Thanks in advance.

    • +1

Yes , you would qualify .

      • Can you actually port from one Optus wholesaler to another? Or is this for new numbers only?

        • You can, but it takes significantly longer. Days instead of hours.

It's fine if you go from Vodafone to Vodafone, Telstra to Telstra and between any of the 3 networks, it's only Optus to Optus that leaves you sucking your thumb for a few days.

          • @non-core promise: Does it mean you go offline for a few days or take a few days to port over?

            • +1

@huu: The latter. Old SIM will still work until the transfer happens.

It's just completely arbitrary as to whether your port will go through by the end of the day or in a few days, whereas in every other scenario, the porting is automated and typically takes less than an hour, any day of the week as long as you enter your details correctly.

      • Are you sure of this, I’ve been scouring the t&c but can’t find the new definition of new as I was with the until July 2023? Can you please show how you know.

    • +1

disconnected for more than 30 days.

    • Did it successfully track for you? Asking as they list Catch connect under cashback exclusions - Cashback is not applicable for catch connect purchases.

      • Nope not tried it. Just assumed it would work. Have unpublished so others don't try it and miss out

    • I don't think this will work as Catch Connect is listed as 0%, TC has 5% right now though.

      • I didn't see the original comment, but if you purchase via Catchconnect and not Catch.com.au it should be valid hey?

  • How can transfer your existing number? anyone tried?

    • +2

Of course you can. I have ported numbers into Catch with zero probs.

      • I mean what's the way? 😅 Or it does have instructions when you receive the sim card ?

        • +2

When you activate on the website it you just select porting in another number from memory. There's nothing complicated about it, it's totally straightforward. The most trouble i had was with Boost needing me to phone them to complete the activation once, but i did one with Catch Connect for my Dad not long back (November i think), he was porting in from Aldi Mobile and it was totally seamless and without any issue.

Could someone please confirm activation date is 2 years or 30days?
I want to switch to this in June.

    • I am also interested in confirming this. Can't see activate within 2 years anywhere on the website, not sure why they would only put that information on the sim card letter.

      • I activated much later but under two years two sims when there was a price error and I bought a few sims. This was approximately 16 months ago. If things have changed I don’t know though.

    • Unless it's changed, the SIM is active for 2 years but the promo is active for 30 days. Although not exactly sure how they monitor this when you pay upfront..

Mine was coming up for renewal today actually. I didn't have auto renew on (don't know if it makes a difference, but might) and my $160 plan they offered for $115. Which is 120gb. So under $10 a month for 10 gig and calls. Decent, even if optus.

    • They renewed my 60GB plan at $90 the last couple of times. Missus 60GB plan on Coles due for renewal @ $120 in a couple of weeks and they haven't offered any discount. Not a big enough data user to need to worry about data rollover they offer over Catch. Pity I missed the $89 offer last week though, renewed mine a couple of weeks ago and asked them about offers on the 60GB so as to port the missus but was none at the time, dropped the ball and hadn't been keeping an eye out since :D

  • By the time Catch has a deal for existing customers, its meant to be another change to the mobile industry lol

I'm assuming no visual voicemail (i.e. where voicemail arrives as a text message playback attachment)? This is the thing keeping me with Boost. Really don't want to have to dial up and listen through IVR to hear voicemail.

    • Snap! We both asked about VM within seconds of each other! :-D

  • Is anyone able to comment on Optus 4G coverage in the greater Melbourne area? Specifically inner north and CBD. I have a family member who might be interested but good coverage would be important. For reference, they are currently on Telstra full service.

Also, I assume this plan includes voicemail? The Critical Information Summary mentions ‘voicemail retrieval’ calls are included, but it doesn’t confirm the voicemail service is automatically activated (I’ve been caught by that before).

    • voicemail is free, you need to set it up manually

  • I got this for $89 a few weeks back. Delivery took 7 business days so be patient. All good apart from that. Ported from Telstra, took about 5mins.

  • I just wish you could physically buy catch sims in stores instead of waiting for the sim to come in via mail.

  • Good deal, for those that are CBA Yello Everyday Plus customers, this deal here seems better value? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/833923

$15 off for 12 months for the 4G 12GB BYO plan. Brings the cost down to $9 p/m or $108 for 365 days for 144GB of data. With the Telstra wholesale network too.

  • Does anyone know if catch supports calling forwarding?

Thinking of moving away from Cole’s mobile due price increase.

  • Does anyone know whether i can buy catch sims with catch gift cards? Thanks

    • Gift Cards cannot be used to purchase Catch Connect services.

      • Yes you can. Buy it from catch and not catch connect
