70

Picked up a new set of 4 Continental ContiComfort Contact™5 tyres for the Wifes Hyundai i30. $150 each fitted and balanced so $450 for a set of four as the forth tyre is free.
Only driven 30kms since but they are appear much quieter than the stock Kuhmo's.

such a small car and tyres were $150 ea?

  • but i only need one new tyre. any good deal?

  • +1

Just my luck. I just bought the same tyres for my wife's i30 last week. Very impressed; much better feel than the old ones, seems to be a v good tyre. And yep, that's what they cost; lots of places selling them in the $160s.

    • What kind of cheapskate are you buying a Korean car and then putting Continental Tyres on it? Why not get a perfectly good Korean Tyre (Kumho @85 each from Ozzy Tyres, inc fit and balance and alignment from memory)?

Also I read that many Continentals are made in China, so is a German engineered Chinese tyre better than a Korean or Japanese Engineered Korean tyre?

BTW I'm not complaining about the car, we bought one too. Just confused about the spend on the tyres.

Also new tyres will always feel better than the old ones because there isn't as much rubber between the road and the steel.

They normally jack up the price by $20-30 each to give you the "free" tyre. Good Year Auto tyres do that all the time. It would be a bargain if the tyres were priced normally.

    • Good Afternoon. This is a genuine promotion with no hidden catches. We haven't pushed the price of the tyre up. This strong Continental offer is available on the popular CC5 and MC5 tread patterns until the end of April. The perfect time to put new rubber on your car. Regards, JAX Tyres

  • I'm preeeeeettttty sure these are the exact model I got on my Magna for under $100 a corner monts ago.

Maybe cheaper due to size/profile though, not sure what the i30s roll on.

They are 205/55 R16 on the i30 model we have. Cheapest I saw them was on ebay at $122.50 + $15 fitting so this deal still beats that price and with the ebay deal you had to go to Fairfield NSW to get them fitted so not much use to most.

    • With that price difference you can be pretty sure they ARE NOT the same as on your Magna.

  • I pay <$90 at my local mechanics for 185/60/R15 on my suzuki swift that price is per tire and is fitted and balanced as well

    • for the same tyres?

  • Hmm, I need of some for my Honda Jazz. I've got Continental on my bike and they're super good. I like Michelin for cars - how are Jax tho, any good?

    • +2

I've seen a few Jax ads recently and they seem to offer very good prices on tyres.
My last 2 sets are from KMart Tyre and Auto. Will check out Jax for the next set.

I like that KMart quote a (good) price for tyres and it includes fitting, balancing, valve and disposal. Other dealers I've been to will add all those extras onto the bill.

    • Been to the one in Moorabbin, service wasn't great. rung them to see if we can come in early, they told us that they are free. went there, all they did was put the car on the hoist and went for lunch.

Car was finish and had to wait 30mins before the staff at the desk realized it was finish. went home and the glue was on the tires and rims. a lot of swearing and smoking at the joint, not professional

      • Good Afternoon maxtron. Thanks for your comments. We'll raise these issues to improve the service at Moorabbin and avoid these errors in the future. JAX Tyres

    • Hi rorymeister. We stock the world's best brands, including Continental and Michelin. The tyre price includes fitting, balancing, tubeless valve, tyre disposal and GST. Best, JAX Tyres

the prices for different sizes of tyres do vary a lot. So unless we have a price list for the exact same size/model of the tyre, it's hard to compare.

  • But I only needed 2 of these for my bike:(

  • +2

That's an excellent price. I did change mine 1/2 year ago. Same tires. Paid $900.

  • the Tyres on a i30 are worn out already?

    • Yep, coming up to 5 years old (2008 model) and 45000km.

  • These 4 for 3 deals are good but just wondering what you guys do about the spare tyre?

    • usually, the shop can dispose them for you free of charge. They probably sell them to retread tyres factory.

    • +2

In my case the spare is still unused and even though its a different brand its the same size so can be used as a spare while the other tyre is repaired.

  • Got excited for a minute there… then realised it doesn't include the ContiSportContact 5P's :( I'm not sure how they will have worked it out anyway as I have 255's on the front and 285's on the rear… so which one do I get for free :P

Still a good deal if you were after the ones on offer.

Buying 4 x $150 tyres doubles the value of a Hyundai.

  • My tyres are still new, otherwise I would prefer these over the Hankook they came with.

  • I got excited by this offer for a few mins, as I just happen to need new tyres at the moment. But a quick check on the Continental website shows that these 2 models don't come in the size I need… Bummer.

  • Are they good for 2005 CRV? I need to replace all of them now.
if not, any good deal with other brands?

  • just in time, got a flat tyre today so i think its time to jump on this deal, my spare is brand new so 4 new tyres fitted for $450 is a bargain, hope the tyre brand is good and hoping my local JAX has stock of it.

    • Continental are a great brand, only just starting to get traction over here. Most of the reviews you'll find online are UK based, but they are the same tyres.

      • No pun intended I presume?

  • Great deal, just had 4 Continential CC5 tyre fitted. Awesome service from Jax, I am one happy man.

  • How is this compare to a Dunlop sp300 tyre ?
