  • Seems to be a bit laggy despite the new Intel Atom Z2420 chip…, however battery life is exceptional.

  • I am currently using this tablet/phone as my secondary phone (bought in Hong Kong)
Good battery life, not laggy, can play 720p videos, excellent WiFi reception
But only 4GB ROM can be used if you buy a 8GB version
It is recommended to buy a Micro SD card

The Fonepad is far cheaper than the Galaxy Note 8.0

    • The Galaxy Note 8 is a quad core with POW !, the benchmarks of this dual core device were pretty average more on par with the Galaxy Tab series, considering the asking price. They(ASUS) revealed this at the Mobile World Congress in Feb and it does have noticeable lag at times(annoying), the single band wifi on this was average, 3G was good, but nothing compared to the dual band and finesse of the Galaxy Note 8.0, a class of its own…

      • I actually like the 8" ones rather than the 7".
        7" looks too small.

        • …she says something obligatory

      • I compared my Fonpad and Galaxy Note 8.0 in JB Hi Fi,
I can't see too much differences between the 2 devices.
Maybe I don't play any games on my Fonepad, I really think my gadget is really smooth.

        • No not saying this is bad, just not on par with the GN8, but its better than many other mobile devices, it smashes the xperia s and galaxy S3 despite having a weaker GPU in powervr sgx540.

The most amazing part is the processor's ability to maintain exceptional battery life over high usage, but in terms of multi-tasking it lags a little, the Galaxy Tabs are more expensive with the 3G options, are these are a fitting alternative, considering the price…

        • it does have noticeable lag at times

Is the lag due to the HW/SW compatibility or bugs? Can be fixed with update?

        • the lag is due to Queensland bringing us all down.

May need more than an update.

          (ouch)

        • I'm certain given time XDA Developers will have a custom rom with tweaks/skeleton systems and make full use of this awesome processor !

  • It's like $200 in the UK, just because it's not getting released here they are bumping up the prices like mad

    • I don't know where you get $200 from, if you read any article it says the UK price is $267 on launch, and that model does not include a rear camera.

$316 is a not the best price, as you have not specified that it is only the 8GB version.

The ebay sellers have the 16GB version for $340.

I am waiting to see if the price drops on the 26th.

  • Doesn't seem to be anything on XDA yet, but has anyone seen anything on getting Win 8 running on these things? Atom processor should support it, think the GPU is supported, issue would be bootloader, and storage.

    • No yet since these are new, but its only a matter of time before its hacked & we can install/boot x86/x64 Win8 off these beauties!

  • I wish my Nexus 7 was a phone, then my Nexus 4 would never get any use.

If I had enough money to spare I would consider buying this.
