  • can this laptop be use with the $150 cash back offer?

    • +1

you have to trade in an old one though. it's fully eligible.
      http://www.harveynorman.com.au/promos/ultrabook-trade-in-you…

      • "The trade in laptop must be up to 5 years old." How exactly are they going to determine that? A lot of them have manufacturing date somewhere, but not all. And it needs to include a battery, but does that battery need to be functional? And what if they decide they don't for some reason accept my laptop as a trade in after I've sent it in?

        • +1

$339 after trade in. Why are people are saying this isn't a deal? Sounds like a pretty great deal to me! Am I missing something?

EDIT: Oh wait, I thought this was the big brother touch screen version of my 11" F202E but it's not. Hmmm still a good price but I'm less interested now.

        • -7

Yepp, it's the big brother, just like you mentioned.

          http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lpc77i0LAA1qbg3vbo1_500.pn…

However, maybe not the one you want to buy ;)

        • How did you get that photo? I thought my lawyers got rid of them all!

        • +3

Damn you, I looked at this at work!

        • I hope nobody else saw it on your screen at the time, that's how rumours get started…

        • Correct me if im wrong but I think the trade in offer only applies to certain models not their entire models.

        • I love your work.

    • This laptop is valid for the $150 offer.

You can find a list of valid Laptops here:
      https://tradeup4cash.com/pages/qualifying

Same offer is available through Harvey Norman, Joyce Mayne or Domayne.

You need to purchase it and send your laptop to tradeup4cash.com and if you meet the following conditions (https://tradeup4cash.com/pages/terms) then they will send you the cash back.

I suspect if you have an existing laptop that is less that 5 years old the main benefit to getting this one would be the size and tiny SSD. Is that really worth another $300+?

      • Yeah, it's that 5 year limit that kills the trade in deal. Often less than 5 year old laptop would be worth more than that $150.
Still, even without the trade in this seems like a good deal, as long as you understand the compromises of this "ultrabook".

    Obvious price error here professionals..

It's not that good deal. Quite big and heavy (2.3kg). Not sure why it's called ultrabook :)

The sufficient but not really satisfactory product quality, no genuine SSD, the reflective and color-weak TN screen alongside its poor viewing angles and especially the baffling as well as surprisingly poor battery life add weight to the con side. Especially the last two points contradict the actual purpose of an ultrabook and restrict the S56CM's outdoor suitability. Consequently, Asus' S56CM can only be rated as "merely" an ultra-slim multimedia laptop with good performance that reaps in plus points with its stylish design, aluminum applications, good cooling system without throttling and the aforementioned low price and thus will certainly find its fans.

    • I'd say it's cheap for what you get. Sure, it's not going to be the best Ultrabook, but otherwise it's decent value for money.

  • anyone know if the ram can be upgraded in this laptop?

  • I think its a good laptop for the price. There's no point in complaining that it doesn't have a proper SSD etc because you're paying under $500. For me personally though, I need a full resolution screen.

  • Just double checking, this is NOT a touchscreen model, right? Another touch screen lappy would be handy for work but I have no real need for non-touch. I don't care about no SSD, that's easily solved for ~$65 3rd party purchase cost.

  • Great deal, my friend was looking for a good laptop for around $500. This is perfect, thanks!

Trade in your old clunker and get it for $339, even better :)

EDIT: $334 with the WELCOME5 online code.

  • Remember kids, this isn't an ultrabook in reality, but a slightly thinner laptop. It's still as heavy as a laptop and has worse battery life, despite having a much slower cpu at only 1.3ghz.
For this you sacrifice battery life and processor speed, to have a slightly thinner laptop and that's it.

    • congrats pc manufacturers for ruining another marketing term.

  • it's not really an Ultrabook TBH. Not light enough… 1kg- 1.2KG for an Ultrabook is about right.

  • Omg, i have a laptop (DELL Stuido 1555, Model # PP39L) that just borderlines the 5 years requirements. Should I risk it?

  • so if we trade in a old laptop and get $150 cash back?It is true after trade in the cost will be like$349?

    • Even better, $339, and if you use that coupon code, $334.

      • sorry what code?

        • First line of the deal ^^

I'd be all over this if it was the S500CA (touch version), but this is still a lot of laptop for $334. Hard to pass up if you don't need touch.

        • Also the S400CA (touch screen) which is 14" is good. I just got it for my wife from jbhifi they have a decent deal on it. Its a very good laptop quite light and a proper ultrabook. here is the link:
          Its $696
          http://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers/asus/vivobook-14-inch-tou…

    • Well, that's how I read it and that's what got me interested. I do have cupboards full of old laptops, but I think they'd mostly be older than 5 years. And the ones that are newer, are too new to give away for just $150. Or are netbooks, which don't qualify for this as the requirement is at least 13" screen.

      • I have a dead Fujitsu which is around the 4yr mark. Arguably I could sell its working parts and get at least this much but I can't be bothered. It was one of the top dogs for its day but it's GPU died which essentially has sent it to the grave.

Not bad, $500 get you a laptop with GeForce GT 635M 2GB

  • the screen on my ASUS Laptop is falling off its hinges i wonder if that is considered normal wear and tear?

    • The guy at the store we went to said it just has to turn on ;)

  • .

  • reckon I would get away with a Compaq c700 without a hardrive as a trade in?

    • Terms and conditions say it needs to be fully operational.

      • you could put a usb stick in the side and put ubuntu on it… It really depends on what is considered fully operational.

  • anyone know if i trade in with a dead battery,do i still get $150 trade in money?

  • how can you tradein online? lol

  • I purchased one of these for 15 mins. HN box said 500Gb. Internal box says 320Gb. Took it back.

Damn heavy ultrabook that to be honest is a bargain BUT very very ugly.

    • Can you explain HN box vs Internal box? So are the wrong specs on the box? listing on website link shows 320gb unless this has changed in the meantime? I bought one with in store pickup. So you reckon waste of money even for $339? ps. I dont really care about weight for this one.

      • There is an outer box and an inner box. Outer box has a HN sticker on it. Both are ASUS boxes.

For $339 it is fine. I just need more then 320Gb.

  • can the laptop be older than 5 years?

  • i have a year old laptop, althougth the screws that holds both the screen and the keyboard has fallen off. can i still trade it?

  • Bought one with store pickup and will post result here. Cash back conditions are very elaborate and almost in the too hard basket but will give it a go.

  • I hate seeing the size of graphics RAM as being a standout specification when really 1GB be more than enough for dual 1080p displays.

  • good laptop but no bluetooth, returned today as wrong info was displayed on their website( bluetooth enabled), so anyone got it but want bluetooth may seek refund.
