Good price, i got this laptop with similar spec for around this price last December.
I hate the keyboard. It feel horrible and the function set keys are very bad, you can change it but then it make all the function useless.
Apart from that pretty good laptop.

yep, keyboard is bad. I have the L840 14" model and the keyboard is like a trampoline, it has so much flex. The letter 'C' has practically died on mine and requires a hard, long push to work. Plenty of other people with similar problems around the net. And, yes, the Fn keys operate back to front.

Final issue is the weak screen. Looks fine in a bright shop but the blacks are appalling in the dark.

I used to be a huge Toshiba lappie fan and recommended them as best quality for your dollar years ago. I'm typing this on a budget model 5 year old L300 Satellite which has never skipped a beat, but it looks like Toshiba now skimps on build quality at the cheaper end of the range.

  • Hey guys how is the 452.90$ looks thinking of buying it, very good price for an i5. What you guys say?

    • If you're after a laptop for games, just going by http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-HD-7670M.69483.0.htm…

      Radeon HD 7670M 480@600MHz
      Radeon HD 7610M 400@450MHz

I'd pay the extra $30, it might be around 15-25% faster in games.

And then the difference between that and the $550 model, it comes with a Quad and an extra 250GB of HDD space for an extra $70.

      • Yep i m a bit surprise that my dell i5-3210M, 8G ram plus 7670M can run 2012 games pretty much from medium to high quite well !!! I ran Inversion, Crash Test 5 and dishonored pretty much smooth and no problem, except its a bit hot and fan goes wild sometimes. I would say for a $500 laptop as a casual gamer, you wont go wrong …

        • saves you money on a heater too while you game through the cold winter night. win

        • exactly !!! while last nite my fingers are so chilli when playing inversion while waiting loading, i put them right next to the hot air vent, so comfy, very warm !!!

    Not available ANYWHERE.

Why post this when clearly not available?

    • it was available when he posted it last night, you are 8 hours too late.
      You snooze you lose!

      • Remember, ozbargainer never sleeps…

      • -2

well I don't want to see what you look like if you don't sleep.

You can't pickup instore around midnight either.

Lastly, 2 units country-wide is not a valid post, it's just bait.

        • You could purchased it online with delivery last night, not a bait, i would had gone through with the checkout if i didnt own one already

        • i dont see an option to checkout online on the website?

  • It's actually still available in Launceston if anyone wants to take a quick flight :p They wouldn't send one to a Vic store for me :(

  • I ordered one Toshiba laptop this morning through their website when the nearby store has 5 in stock. I call again just now and they told me they sold out. The HN online promise to send them a confirmation at around 11:00am and they didn't!

Again, I call the online support and they said they get someone to look into it on next Monday. geez, no more buying from harveynorman online again.

    • i had someone call me from a store saying the last unit they had was a demo model and if i wanted it. i said no and he said he will try and arrange a transfer from another store and call me back. not surprisingly there was no call back so i called just before closing and he said there's one en route from another store and he'll give me a call when it's ready. i'm not too confident about that call either

  • Just received a call from my local HN store. The sales assistant said they're upgrading my order to a higher model (from 750G to 1TB) without extra. The only con is that it comes with Windows 8.

I prefer Windows 7 instead. Now, I have to find a way to downgrade it.

@xbai - You can contact the store and ask them to do a free upgrade.

    • similar here. Ordered C850/00M and got phone call to tell me unavailable and they'll 'upgrade' to Windows 8 model. Have to see what model actually arrives…

  • @gjk - The model they're going to give me is a lemon for sure. I will call them tomorrow morning to double check. The guy on phone said it's the exact specification with a bigger HDD (1TB). I did a search on google and found the only model comes with 1TB HDD is c850-05d. It comes with a crappy graphic card (Intel HD Graphics 4000) and it's not black.

I think this is the model they're giving us.

    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/toshiba-satellite-c850-05d-la…

It's $100 more expensive, but without the 3D gaming card (AMD Radeon HD 7610M 1GB)

I might get a refund instead.

    • thats a super ripoff from hardly normal as usual, this model doesnt even has dedicated GPU

  • I was right, they confirmed it was the "Toshiba Satellite C850/05D Laptop" with integrated Intel 4000 graphic card. The specification isn't identical.

I decided to get a refund, but the manager wasn't in today. Now I have to wait until tomorrow.

  • Just cancelled my order online and was told to get a refund in store.

What a joke! Not worth ordering online again, at least not Harvey Norman.
