Apparently these only have analogue input.
Will they decode from a stereo source? ie Dolby Prologic - or at least filter out a centre channel, and bass to the woofer?

    • +1

oh wow epic fail. saves me blowing another $23 i guess

and no these wont filter out anything, they are simply a "dumb" amp. what ever goes in is what ever comes out. needs to all be done in the sound source (your pc)

  • It's 5 inputs, 5 speakers.
    Needs a seperate 5.1 decoder.

    • Fixed tried to change it to desktop link on mobile.

  • got myself a set… need to click and collect, in store they are $47

  • Its horrible in terms of audio quality. Bought it in the last price markdown.

    • +2

Horrible for $20? Or horrible for $90?

    • @liveyourlife
I believed you. I think I will pass.

    • That is depends on what you use it for and what you compare with.

Don't tell me you compare a $20 PC speaker with 5.1 Home Theatre system.

      • +1

No way!!! I am using it on my old PC. The old Logitech 2.0 system still beats the crap out of this thing.

        • +1

Which Logitech you have and how much?

        • +1

That can't be right. Anything beats logitech. Unless you prefer Logitech's bass of course (and there's nothing wrong with that) :P

        • if you love beats by dre you will love logitech speakers?

        • No, I do not like beats.

And, I am comparing this to the Z-10.

  • +1

Better than built in speakers.. Thanks!

  • How is this speaker compare to the Logitech Z605? Is this price applies in store as well or is it online only?

    • +15

I walked into store, marked at $47 asked for them to match price of their online, they said no. Got out the phone 'click and collect' $23.50… lol it makes me wonder sometimes

      • +5

Just ask them to scan the system said $23.50.

      • +1

        You gotta love powning staff.

  • No stock at all around Sydney CBD (2000) or Lidcombe (2141) in 10km radius - I think this covers most of the suburbs near Parramatta Rd/Main train line

  • no stock in melbourne

  • Was marked $23.50 in store at Morley Galleria. An open box plus display model left a little while ago,
even though the website said no stock.

Glenelg SA has click & collect.

midland gate in WA has stock

  • This works very well as a stereo (2.0) system.
    It has built-in bass filtering to the woofer - you can't really call a 5" driver a sub-woofer :)

Sound quality is far better than I expected for such small speakers. Very pleased, thanks superforever .

  • List price is $118.95 on the creative web site store.

    • Even our cost over $60.

  • wtf

do they refund the difference since i bought it last week for $36?

    • Not on clearance I think but you can try to ask.

      • yeah no go :/

  • So glad I didn't buy it last week! Cheers OP

  • Stock in Tassie, ordered a set. Thanks.
Anyone know if i can snip the 3.5mm jacks off and run them as the discreet speakers on a 5.1 amp?
I was intending to just add a phono jack to the subwoofer to replace the sub's 3.5mm.

    thanks in advance.

    • +1

The 3.5mm plugs are for line-level input to the amp.
      The speakers have RCA plugs.
You want to use them on a big hifi amplifier?? The crossover frequency on these might need to be higher than on a regular 5.1 amp. And they are 4 ohm, so be careful not to blow them. You could give it a try.

  • Thanks OP. Bought the last one boxed @ Bondi Junction before 19:00 closing time last night. After that, they only had the display one left.

  • As people say these aren't the most amazing speakers on earth BUT the sub + powered satellite speaker outputs are good to use. I have an older set of creative speakers similar to this and am running a pair of small Polk audio satellites as fronts from the creative sub. It sounds really good and the sub/amp module provides more than enough power for my office :)

So yeah you can create a nice 2.1 system with this as a base without needing a proper amp, just for a small office.

Oh you can also replace the sub woofer driver. Just look up other people modding the 5.1 creative systems online

    • you can also replace the sub woofer driver.

Does that achieve anything without replacing the amplifer as well?
Trying to get a few notes lower?

      • I've opened the sub of my t7700 and the amp is actually pretty decent looking so no reason it couldn't run a "better" aftermarket driver because their boxes ported and made of decent MDF.

So for someone who likes tinkering stuff you can replace the speaker. Having said that the standard sub driver in mine is already of decent quality. Its a Cambridge Soundworks branded driver, which is surprising i'd expect it was some dodgy noname thing.

        • I am still thinking any way to connect it to a karaoke amp mixer with only speaker output

  • Just been to Penrith shop and got, I think, the last one. I couldn't see any more on the clearance tables.
lots of other stuff there as well.

Bought this to plug in to my computer…hope it helps

    • +1

Thats not what you want. You could use 2 sockets on that to duplicate the front sound to rear speakers, e.g. with an MP3 player.

Try this for surround on a PC:
      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/USB-6-Channel-5-1-External-Audio-…

      • thats right if u want 5.1 effect

      • Hi there,

if you have a moment, could you clarify what this means from an AUS seller of the same item http://bit.ly/13dWfrC

"Only R,L channel PCM audio in 5.1 channel can be conveyed in digital playback mode. In analog playback mode, it supports 6 channels codec for analog playback."

i grabbed a set of these for an old 5.1 amp i have just to run a bunch of surround music dts rips i have grabbed of the net. they are in various formats, .dts .ac3, .flac etc.

i'm currently burning them to cd or dvd and using a 5.1 dvd player.

i was going to grab one of these so i could bypass the amp and dvd player and just use an old laptop.

but will that work? i'll be using foobar probably with a 5.1 plug in - USB out into this box and then into my shiny new creatives.

        thanks.

        • +1

I wish the ebay sellers would say what chip their gadgets use.
For these speakers, you want analogue-out, so no problems on a PC, but might not work on Mac OS-X.
They are saying it will not encode digital (Dolby) surround output. But I think it will probably work in passthrough mode, if you have the right software.

On a mac, it might be easier to use a pair of ordinary cheap 2-channel USB dongles, and create an "aggregate device" with the built-in stereo output.

  • Thanks OP, bought myself a set, listening to it now. Best $23.50 - 5% set of speakers I have ever purchased.

Suits my basic system perfectly. Sub has good bass. Cranks to the point of distortion, but that's what we all want anyway, isn't it?

  • +1

Just bought last 3 from Renmark, S.A.
They sound perfect on the 24" LCD tv, one for the laptop and one because it was so damm cheap and I didn't want anyone else in Renmark having one.

  • +1

Just set this up for another TV with Media centre PC, not bad for movie of course cannot compare with my another home theatre set up but for $23.50 it is good enough.

  • A WARNING. These are standby power-hogs.
I measure 5.5W drawn when switched off, and 10W idle, so over several years will cost a few times the purchase price in increased power bills.

What happened to the laws limiting standby power to 1W?

    • What do you mean standby? Did you mean no sound output? switched off from the wired control still use 5.5W?

      • By standby, I mean switched off at the wired remote control.
By idle, I mean on but no sound. (ie most of the time if you don't bother to switch it off after use.)

Sorry, its a pet hate of mine. Laziness or penny-pinching by the designers that costs the buyers maybe millions, not to mention the CO2 emissions.

    • What did you use to get the measurements?

  • I saw this deal for $35 . how come it's cheaper at Warringah Mall??

    • It will scanned at my price because the web site show $23.50

  • Postal Code 7000 still have a lot have stock.

  • Warwick QLD store still has tons of stock. Stickered at $47 but scans at $23.50
