Resolution is very ordinary (qHD) for the screen size.

  • Come now. 4GB ROM? No wireless N? These are signs that serious corners have been cut and you should not get this phone.

Readying myself for a comment about its frequencies… WCDMA 2100MHz etc etc.

  • -1

No next G and 720p cornerstones either.

  • +2

What do you expect for USD 149? Same specs as Samsung Note 2? :D
At least it has MTK6589, RAM: 1GB and External T-flash card up to 32GB.
I'd say it's good enough considering price :)

    • +1

Not really. The Note 2 has a 720p 5.5" screen, 2Gb of Ram, Faster CPU/GPU, 16gb storage onboard plus a whole lot of other goodies as well. Those features are what is considered as Premium options that does make the device significantly more expensive (even for local Chinese brands).

I would tell everyone to wait about 6 weeks or so before getting the next round of Chinese phones. Why? the 1080p 5" are out at this time and there will be a push for the 720p devices for a price drop. Currently outside the Dx deal, the 720p phones are around $180-$300 depending on brand, quality and options. The 1080p phones will take over this price point (eg. iOcean x7, Neo N003, Jaiyu G4) then the current 720p will be pushed down to the $120-$200 mark when vendors try to run out the older models.

If you REALLY need to get it now, then recommend the extra $30-40 on buying an iOcean x7 light version with 1080p screen.

If you choose to wait, there's always something better around the corner to be released soon enough :)

        • Of course there will be something better. But history also shows that there are "gaps" where major releases happen and price drops quite substantially when the models are shifted. The best buy period is during these times unless you really need something now and urgently to replace something.

I've got a phone that's almost exactly like this one. A quick spec check shows the one here "should" be better, at least on paper. Here's a quick why I bought this phone and what I would do next time. Also just note that most dual sim phones especially cheap ones usually only have 3G on one sim slot and you get to figure out which one by trial and error.

    Pros
    1. I've never found myself in a blackspot for reception another phone has worked in.
    2. The resolution seems fine to me (probably a 6.5-8.0 out of 10)
    3. For browsing the web while mobile nothing beats it (except maybe a tablet but then I can't bothered taking that)
    4. My one came with 2 batteries and a different back cover that included a cheap screen cover which is an added bonus (also it uses micro-usb)
    5. Of course the price
    6. This has had no trouble streaming even HD media across my home wireless N network.

    Cons
    1. The GPS is SHOCKING gives me a 2km radius at best if at all. I've gotten a pin-point location twice and both times I've had to have clear sky view for ~1minute whilst motionless.
    2. I constantly worry about breaking the glass (lets face it this isn't gorilla glass, it's quite thin and theres a good chance it will break if I were clumsy or a careless person)
    3. I have zero confidence that this phone won't just suddenly stop working even if I take care of it although it's worked for the last ~3 months
    4. I am always conscious to never put keys in the same pocket as my phone but if I did I know the screen would be scratched. (I know that would occur with all phones but the feel of this screen compared to others just seems more pliable/maliable or susceptible to scratching.

If I were to buy a phone again I would probably get the optimus L7 because even though it's a bit slower I find a 5.3" phone to be a little bit too bulky, I'd be able to find cases that actually fit it and of course I'd get my all important GPS.

Just a note regarding reception, you said so far you had no problems, I noticed in specs that your phone supports 2100 mhz, as well as 850 mhz. If you are using a Telstra/reseller or Vodafone sim, that would explain your good reception. The posted phone here only has 2100 mhz. , beware in rural and outer regional areas.

If you have rooted your phone, try running an app that changes your time server. Location services use the time server as part of the GPS lock process. It's likely your phone is using a time server far from your current geographical location.

Personally I would be highly cautious of these phones and tablet coming from china, with all these hacking and stuff going on.

Whilst i do have a Chinese tablet. I will not log into my main emails with with it.

And certainly i wont touch any phone banking etc on it either.

    • just flash a ROM onto.
Cyanogen Mod should be safe enough. Unless your sceptical about 3rd party chinese developers.

Disclaimer: I own an Ainol Tablet, but with CM10.1 installed. I use my main email on it. BUT never ever Phone Banking. 1. Because the apps suck. 2. Anyone can pick up the tablet/phone and if lucky enough can get through the shitty 4 pin security.
      BTW: didnt neg you.

where's most of the tablets made? Even ipads and fruit phones are all made in China..

Sometimes you have to ask yourself when choosing cheap imports… how much is a paperweight worth?

Altomic, I think the most the important thing to say is that people like yourself who have endured the trauma of the recent DX debacle should really be spending their money on counselling, not on phones like this. Be brave.

    • thanks. deep breath.

  • these 4.5" units are getting decent reviews http://www.merimobiles.com/thl-w100-mtk6589-quad-core-androi… they are considered name brand and merimobiles are great to deal with - canada based, speak proper english, have proper wty with free return ship - think they have a 4%OFF ATM code is easy enuf to find

    adding 30.00 with the same Co., also gets you;

But Best of all, & as bchliu and I intimated, such ripened features could be looking certain to show up on hd versions merely months down the track.

PS: This other one appears to do really well in the performance index.
