You've jumped the gun on your Wednesday microserver special haven't you :)

    • oopsy :)

  • No ssd offers?

    • Not on today's post.

  • Finally, been waiting for this. Bought!

  • What's the advantages of having a better CPU in the N54L? I have the N40L, but I thought it would be better to have lower power consumption. Any real benefit to this? May pull the trigger as I need another one soon, but don't know if I should go with another N40L or a new N54L.

    • Only if you need the extra processing power (at the cost of worse power consumption). However the G8 Celeron based HP microservers, due soon, will be better on the processor power front, so …

  • Do you need to buy a Microserver to get the HDD and UPS discount? When I apply the code the discount isn't being applied.

    • yes, you need to buy a microserver to enjoy the extra savings.

      • Damn. I've already brought one of those from you. :-/

        • You can still enjoy the listed price on this post by applying the coupon code: Microserver-4, ie. UPS for $115,
the price of those products are still good without the $5 off from combo purchase.

  • Can you do anything on the http://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/buy/asus-amd-radeon-hd-645…

When Purchasing the N54L as the 6450 you offer has a fan and not suitable for the HP54L, as opposed to the above link as the 6450 has a heat-sink only silent

    Cheers

added to post, please see above

      • Thanks

      • Op could this harddrive be included in the bundle instead of the seagate, as trying to aviod 7200rpm in the 54L.

        http://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/buy/western-digital-wd-cav…

        Cheers

        • May I ask what's wrong with 7200 rpm?

        • Nothing, but having an SSD as a O/S drive, there's no need for the 7200 drive for storage, when green drives have less heat and use less power, and considering there in idle as a storage devise for the majority of there life…..all IMHO

  • some good pricing, just wondering if you can also do a special on the N40L ?

    • no N40L today, but we will try and organize something for it in the coming weeks

      • +1

thanks!, would be great if its before end of financial year :) looking to order 1-2 and a bunch of 3TB WD Reds to fill them.

  • I don't think Ultimate Combo 1 is working.
I get a total of $357 without shipping

    • Did you use the coupon?

      • Yep. MICROSERVER-4 gives me a $40 discount to $357

        • please try again?
          it should be working now

  • Sounds like a good deal but to be honest I have no idea how these Servers work.

If I buy the Combo + the HD do I need anything else to use these?

Can I connect my Laptop to it as an input device (for monitor display + keyboard input) or do I need to buy those items also?

Also I see these run Windows Server, does this mean I can install and use regular Windows compatible software on it.

Sorry if these questions are basic but I have no idea re server technology.

    Thanks

Only need the monitor and keyboard for initial setup

This can run Linux, Windows or FreeNas. Some home use software will no run on windows server(like AV software) but most things will.

Can connect to any screen with hdmi input to use as a monitor

They run great as a torrent box or media server

the included motherboard only has vga output, not hdmi. you'll need one of the graphics cards for hdmi (and audio over hdmi, if you want audio, as the motherboard has no built in soundcard, either).

      • Awesome, cool thanks for helping out.

@Salem - thanks for the clarification on the HDMI too.

  • i've been putting off buying one of these N54L for so long. Might jump the gun and just do it.

    • I did 2 deals ago, and haven't regretted it. (despite some issues with the video card I chose on advice from the rep here)

      • Which video card was that?

        • +1

          Asus NVIDIA GeForce GT 610 2GB GDDR3 PCI-E 2.0 Video Card GT610-SL-2GD3-L

It was a fanless one. I asked if it would fit, rep said it would. But turns out they were mistaken and the heatsink was too fat for the tight space. Took some emails back and forth, and some phone calls, to sort out. In the end got it swapped over for a fanless 1gb 6450 that did fit. Downgrade, but good enough for my HTPC. They covered return shipping and shipping for the replacement. Offered to refund me the difference, too, but I haven't bothered to chase that up.

        • Does the 6450 do 7.1?

        • No idea. I was planning on using it to pass through digital audio to my amp (which is only 5.1). However, my amp is not actually able to do audio on hdmi, only video switching (d'oh!). So I bought a cheap USB soundcard off ebay to run an optical to the amp.

          Hi Salem,

I remember this issue.. :). The heat sink of the 2GB version video card is slightly different from our 1GB ones and got it mixed up….

I noticed "Offered to refund me the difference, too, but I haven't bothered to chase that up" :
Is the refund been arranged or there seem a delay from our end?
Would you like me to assist you to have a look? If so, please PM me your ticket ID so i can assist further.

          Kind Regards

        • Op is the 6450 your only recommendation for the N54L?

        • +1

Rep: I've sent you a PM.

        • Hmm.. there are others but performance may not vary much and this model will suit most occasions - so we focus on limiting the choices so we can keep adequate stock for the microservers.

          Kind Regards

  • Bought the N40L from you on the weekend…. can I get the same price on the 1tb drives??

Is there a way to the get the combo-1 with 16GB of Ram?

  • How loud are these? subjective I know, but I guess they aren't like a rack mount server, but louder than a standard desktop?

    • IMO there quieter than typical desktop

      • Agreed

  • Hey guys,

Been doing a bit of reading and trying to sort out what I need for a basic HTPC. Already have a QNAP Nas that I'm using with my in built Samsung smart tv but wanted something a little more smooth that can install plex (My QNAP is ARM and can't install plex).

Do I just need a N54L + video card + HDD? Do I need to get more ram for use as a media server?

Thanks for any help you can provide. I wish there was a simple tutorial for HTPC beginners like myself. Just not sure what to buy.

    Mike

Just to hold data, supplied ram is enough, however because the box can be utilized in so many areas, taking the existing ram out and filling it up to capacity with normal ram, will allow it to multitask a little better. That said depending on your budget def go a SSD as the OS drive.Cheers
http://n40l.wikia.com/wiki/HP_MicroServer_N40L_Wiki same as the 54 except 1.5 CPU

PS. have purchased many item of shopping express, with no probs, their reliable and responsive.

      • Thanks for that info. I think I'm going to get the combo with the 3GB HDD, the server and add a video card to get HDMI output to my AVR.

Does that mean I also have to get a sound card? Does the video card get me sound via HDMI or just video?

        • no probs, yes I've ordered N54L 3tb and 6450 as updating N36L, great deal……….video card does 7.1 over hdmi, so sound card not req.cheers.

  • Any more deals coming up? I completely missed this one and in the market for another microserver :)
