PS 4 Pre-Order / 299 GBP Delivered to Australia, $58 AUD Cheaper Than Australian Launch Price!

142

I found this by accident,

Amazon UK has listed the price of PS4 at 349 GBP. However when I attempted to check out, it came up around 299 GBP delivered! - that's around $AUD 491!!!!

I guess this find suits those who can't wait for the price of PS4 to drop. I believe that UK voltage is the same as OZ.

Amazon US is offering a cheaper price at $US 415 and they deliver to Australia as well, but I believe the voltage is different to ours.

JB-Hifi - PS4 pre-order is $AUD 548
EB Games - PS4 pre-order is $AUD 549

You may want to consider warranty for a new console with no information on hardware issues and faults.
Yes, this is a great deal but for $60 more you get your standard warranty and an easy RMA process if it fails .

    • +7

Agreed, not worth it incase anything goes wrong. And if my PS1, PS2 and PS3 are anything to go by, something probably will go wrong.

    • there's been reports here and there with Sony offering international warranty with extra payment, someone should ask Amazon if they do that

      • You'd have to ask Sony, not Amazon. If you are claiming an international warranty then Amazon wouldn't be involved.

    • 100% agreed. The $60 you'll save just isn't worth it considering what could (and probably will) go wrong.

Got my PS2 replaced under warranty when it died. Bought a launch PS3 from Japan and when the laser died I called Sony. No international warranty. They could only take models with a certain code.

See http://www.ps3devwiki.com/wiki/SKU_Models for examples. The UK has a different code to AU/NZ - therefore they most likely wouldn't touch it. Same thing with the PS2.

Oh, and the price they quoted me for a laser repair? $350.

This is the first iteration of the hardware. Always be careful with stuff like that. Launch PS2s were flimsy as hell, so were PS3s to an extent (YLOD).

Or you could go with amazon US and get it for $415 delivered.

    • Is their any information on Game compatibility with the new consoles regarding US and AU regions

      • you'd be playing games from US all the way to Japan

        • I tried that on a flight from Osaka to Auckland, PS3 in carry on, I go some funny looks!

      • It's region free.

      • +3

game compatibility is fine, PS4 is region free.

        blurays can be region locked.

        US is in region A,
UK and Australia are in region B.

      • -2

        ps4 is region unlocked.

    • -8

I think game regions might be an issue. There may be a work around, but I'm not the expert. :)

    • You sure they're able to deliver to AU?

EDIT: SWEET! They only charge $16 for delivery! Preordered.

    • -3

They haven't yet confirmed a dual voltage PSU so that's a bit of a gamble. A good quality stepdown capable of handling the power consumption will run you $1-200 if it's needed.

      • UK is on 240V, you just need a simple adaptor.

        • I meant that in reply to the guy ordering from the US..
Odds are it'll be dual voltage since the PS3 was but you never know until it's actually out there and someone has opened theirs.

  • Thanks OP for sharing with us all.

Wasn't there a slew of "red ring of death" and "yellow ring of death" for last gen consoles? In other words, high failure rates - particularly for 1st Ed models?
I would suggest only the very brave or foolish would import a 1st Ed PS4 to save such a small amount.

    • But I have the 1st ed PS3 and it did not die until now. Probably the way I use it I guess. I don't go hardcore leave it on for a week in a row and put it next to a heater.

  • +1

This is a good price. Though I will be importing from the US. Hopefully Amazon US will ship internationally.

    • great call, it's like putting a middle finger on xbox motherland everytime an order comes through :D

I'm quite certain it will be multivoltage. The PS3 was multivoltage (in all its forms), as was the PSP and Vita. Even Sony phone chargers are multivoltage. There's no reason Sony would backpedal on that now. They made their consoles region free, and don't seem opposed to importers.

    Get it from Amazon US.

  • +3

Downside from US would be region A Blu-Rays though, and surely there'll be very competitive bundle deals on the Australian release? Local warranty, piece of mind

    • +2

I got my ps3 from america originally, got a large blu-ray collection and saved loads of money getting blu-rays from amazon ;) most are region free anyway tho.

      • Did exactly the same as you.

        Amazon BDs are so cheap.

I got a second BD player (region B) years later for rare times I might need region B.

But I got so used to getting all my discs from the US anyway that it didn't matter it was region A.

    • Warner is perma region free, only Fox does it and most other studios are region free

I haven't heard of a region locked BD for a long time now, no idea if FOX are still tight arse about it (not like they have the best movie catalog)

    • If you have a local PS3 or BluRay player already, I actually think it's a positive.

I plan on getting the XBox One and a PS4 (maybe not right away however), in which case there may be some value to having the Region A BluRay player on the PS4 and get a PAL/Region B XBox (since the games on that console are region locked. The one deterrent currently is the before mentioned warranty concerns.

Umm… the RRP of $549 will likely be less at launch, in the past BigW / Kmart etc all sell under the launch price or bundled games included. SO be careful with UK pre-orders. Whilst the US is likely a better deal.

  • For those that use Amazon US for BD's…can i get feedback on what their delivery timeframes are like.
I might have to start buying region free from them, rather than the UK. Thx

For people concerned about hardware failure.. I think that the new gen consoles would have made damn sure that this wont happen in this generation. It cost them a lot of money last time, and with so much improvement in cooling tech over 7-8 years I doubt it will be as big of an issue as last time. if at all

    • -2

Why the downvotes? im not saying this is a great deal but I think the fear of RROD'ing is way over emphasised. That problem is 8 years old. Seriously, they even fixed it in the rereleased versions of the last gen consoles.

      • Solutions to previous console problems are not necessarily applicable to new consoles

    • +1

I tend to hope they learnt something, but everyone said the same thing when PS3 came out. In this world we can never know these things.

      • but ps3 was like 40% off when buy at asia during its early time.
$60 seems not a lot here.

  • +5

Warranty and time worth more than $58. No deal.

    • +2

considering the massive amount of issues with the ps3 and the xbox 360 at launch and for a number of years after their launch (RROD and YLOD) and that the consoles themselves are now more complex then before, this is probably a very worthwhile consideration.

  • +2

Id be more concerned with exchange rate, by the time the PS4 is released there's a strong chance the AU$ will be alot lower than it is now and your $60 saving will have been lost

    • ^this, slightly perplexed no one had mentioned this before.
IIRC Amazon only charge you when the product is shipped, and outlook isn't great for AUD. Even then FX market of recent years has been volatile at the best of times and it's not like the spread for AUD GBP was ever great to begin with.

      • It's a non issue really as far as this deal goes. Since they don't charge you until the item ships, if the $AUD drops you can cancel up until the shipment date.

It means it pays to keep your eye on the dollar, but you aren't locking yourself into anything. Cancelling the order is a 2 minute process that involves looking in your order history and hitting the 'cancel order' button.

  • It should equal the AUS launch price now. Sad time for our dollar ahead…
