Help - How to make good use of Analogue TVs?

So my family and I must face the inevitable and fork out money to buy a new digital TV. Pretty exciting stuff huh!

As such, we will have to throw away our old analogue TVs. Back in the days these were worth almost $1000! lol

I feel quite reluctant to throw them away because…. well I'm an el cheapo ozbargainer who doesn't like to let go of things in an attempt to find good use for it lol I even keep the boxes and accessories of items that I buy for a 'just in case' situation :P

Anyway, I wanted to get your opinion/advice on what use can I make of these analogue TVs around the house?

One of the things I've heard of it removing the guts of the TV and turning it into a Fish Tank! But it's too much effort lol

Thanks ozBargain Community!

You can still connect it up to a player and watch DVDs.

Keep it and get a set top box?
Give up on TV and play console games instead?

  • if you make them, i want a tv fishtank :)

  • Removing the guts of the TV will expose you to many undesirable chemicals, especially lots of lead. Be careful of you dispose of it.

If it's 63cm, some people pay good money for them, as they can convert them to arcade games.

You'd need to google this as I know very little about it. There was a guy offering $100 each for them on a few local classified sites a few weeks ago.

  • If any of them are RP you can use the Fresnel lens to make a solar furnace…

  • I am using one with a cushion on top …in my garage!!!!

  • Donate to charity for less fortunate people as I did. ( together with a set top box )

    The best feeling ever.

A lot of charities won't even take CRT TVs anymore.

most don't take any electrical items :)

      Agreed

When you compare side by side with LCD ,CRT picture quality (especially black level) is simply unbeatable.

I still got my toshiba CRT that I bought it for $2000 in 1999.
Sometimes you just can't beat the old tech.

2 more sharp and Panasonic were donated .
