So it's only for Pros ???

        • do not fear - we are all "pros" around here

      • +1

        only 1 year free

Whereas the Free version will always be free. Maybe.

do I have to be a street walker to get the pro version?

  • I have this as an app on my Android phone. Haven't tried it on PC, but the app version is pretty good.

    Why not use LibreOffice ?

    • +2

Personal preference justifies neg votes these days here? I better start negging android deals because I have an iPhone.

    • Libre does not have 100% compatibility to Microsoft Office. In fact, it will be lucky to even get 80% compatibility especially with the formating, font sizes and placement of objects on the document. Kingsoft has been 100% compatible to every document I have thrown at it.

  • Title misleading as it is not free at all. It is a 1 year trial only, then you need to buy if you still want it. No point installing it and then deleting it off the PC.

    • Well yes …….. it is free, for 1 year.

Then you can decide whether or not you want to continue with the program, and buy it. By which time it will be Kingsoft Office 2014.

I thought the definition of 'free' means that you keep for the rest of your life without having to do anything else.. however a 'trial' is for a period, eg, as in this case for one year. So it is not free as you are not the owner of this software until you buy it! So, it is Not free.

        • I thought the definition of 'free' means that you keep for the rest of your life without having to do anything else.

          It isn't.

however a 'trial' is for a period, eg, as in this case for one year.

It's not a trial. It's a one year licence for $0. There is a trial version available for download from their web site.
Anyway, never heard of a trial period that long (for anything)…

you are not the owner of this software

Yes you are (well, you never actually own software, but anyway) - for a year. The one year licence is normally $29.95.

        • +1

'One year licence is normally $29.95'.. Say what??… better of buying Office2013 and pay once and have updates for life. As if anyone would pay $29.95 for a 1 year use of a software that as you say which you do not own….

I was going to download it - but then I thought to myself … "I am so happy with openoffice - what's the point of having another software suite"….

can anyone comment on whether I am missing out on anything by using openoffice?

    • +1

If you are happy, and you know it, then you should clap your hands.

    • Full MS Office compatibility. OO/Libre does not achieve this. Try export a complex document from OO to Office format and see if you get the same formatting and all. Guarantee it will not work properly.
