How good is EB Games' preowned console?

Just saw on the EBGames website, not sure about the quality of those console, can anyone share their experiences?

And how useful is their preowned guarantee?

Should I buy preowned consoles now or wait till brand new prices are cut down?

  • The last time I bought a preowned console (Xbox original), the console had this weird sticky feeling and the control had yellowly substances on the grooves. Clearly they did not clean the product.

However their guarantee is good, if they still offer the 1 year warranty, you can bring it back in store if it breaks for a quick replacement.

Did the console still work properly after a long time?

Their preowned guarantee is 3 months I believe, not 1 year.

      • Yes it's still working today, 4 years later.

  • best to check the instore stock, so you dont have to bother with returns…you get good and bad with hardware

How long is a piece of string?

Never buy hand helds because the battery life is terrible.

  • It always depends on the individual console. Sometimes there are mint condition ones, and the employees will usually try to sell these first as pre-owned consoles have huge markups and they want to get rid of them asap. It doesn't hurt to call and ask if they have any really good condition preowned consoles.

  • I bought a ps2 console pre-owned years ago and it was in mint condition, was barely used and 5-6 years later it is still going strong.

We've also bought preowned games which also have warranties and had no problems in returning those within the time frame.

I would just check the condition of the console before you leave and then make sure you check everything when you get home and make sure you take it straight back. They stand by their warranty.

  • bought an Xbox 360, opened it up to flash the drive and found they had the hitachi and someone had soldered and removed the old mod to the board, I guess when EB got it to fix they just removed the mod.

the inside was terrible. and I got e74 errors constantly.

returned it a day later. bought a new console. wouldn't touch preowned ever again.

  • From my personal experience with a PS3 preowned, it was not good. It could be due to the ps3's older design, but I bought a 40gig ps3 from them after i saw an ozb deal and it had to be replaced after 3 months. The replacement, which was an 80gig model that I had to pay extra for also died in 4 months but they were good enough to refund it for me. I now have a $150 gift card waiting to be spent.

I'd say if the consoles are the older design (3-5 years) then stay away. If it's a more current design then it's up to you. I won't buy another one but maybe the price is too good to resist.

  • I got 3 or 4 preowned psp consoles within about 2 weeks because they all had problems. But I guess it all depends on your luck
