could I know why you loathe chemist warehouse?

    • +2

same, would like to know why? Prices are really cheap

Unless you're a pharmacist or own a pharmacy, then I can understand.

        • +1

That really sucks. I didn't realise the price matching thing was so complicated. The woolworths one I can understand why they don't match, but the example you gave they should've. Regardless of the 1300number. I would've made a huge scene, demanded to speak to the manager and noted names. Usually, when you take names and say you'll notify people in higher places, they tend to shit themselves.

Then if they give it to me, I'd still tell their managers or head office afterward for being a pain in the ass in the first place. Don't just back down and let them think its acceptable.

        • Yep. I didn't want to cause a scene because everyone was occupied and I'm not that type of person lol. It was a last minute Mother's Day gift (which I completely forgot about) so I paid full price anyway.

        • Fair enough. Dodgy, getting you when you're desperate for anything.

  • +1

I loathe them too. Shittest CS of all the pharmacy chains. Not worth paying less if they can't even sort out your prescriptions.

But I got there for cheap CAMs.

    • +2

I can understand where you're coming from. It's almost as though they intentionally make the shopping experience there as unpleasant as possible to emphasise their cheapness.

I'm certainly much happier price matching their catalogue specials elsewhere.

      • I've had nothing but exceptional customer service from my two local Chemist Warehouses, so can't understand where either of you are coming from at all..

      • +1

I agree and disagree, I think it really depends which chem warehouse you shop at. I know my local one isn't that great. It's usually the older staff that come off as rude, but the one near my work is pretty good so I go there. They're slow if you rock up during lunch or after work, so I usually drop by either before work when it's really quiet or do the sms thing if I know I need something.

I did notice their on-line prices for fragrances seem to be about 20-25% higher then their in-store prices, at least for their men's fragrances.

  • Yes. Online prices higher than my local for the products I'm interested in.

  • anyone know whether their perfumes are original like what myer sold? they showed me the "genuine warranty" sticker, however somehow their perfumes' smell evaporate faster than the one I bought from elsewhere.

    • Their perfumes are original and genuine, however I think they are old stock that might have been sitting in the warehouse for quite some time. I think the stocks Myer and David Jones get are fresher. Im not sure about Priceline, but I just bought a perfume from them and it smells better than the testers at Myers.
Fragrances do have a shelf life, which is accelerated by high tempts and light.

I loathe Click Frenzy. Unsubscribed from their spam today actually.

    • Truly spam

  • So how is their online service? Ppl don't seem happy with CS in general but I want to know how their service is online?

While I know this IS ozbargain and this post is bound to get downvoted, I'd like to say the following.
I can understand pricematching and haggling in certain purely retail based areas such as electronics, appliances etc. But I really wish people could differentiate pharmacy from retail. It is more of a medical/health field than a retail one.

I'd like to point out that pricematching and haggling has an effect on pharmacy's viability and sustainability. Pharmacy owners won't accept a decrease in their profits so they pass these decreasing profits onto their staff. This results in pharmacists being paid less and less each year. I've recently been hearing stories through the grapevine of pharmacists being offered minimum wage aka equal to macdonalds or checkout chick wage.

My point is that you should consider the consequences of wanting the cheapest service on offer. What effect does this have on the pharmacist checking your medications for accuracy, interactions, giving advice and taking care of your health if they're surviving on minimum wage or not much more?

Why should someone study at uni for 4 years then intern for 2000 hours only to make 25 bucks an hour and have so much responsibility and liability on their shoulders?

If you want the cheapest prices, what compromises will you accept?

    • +1

Then the pharmacists need to join a union.
I'm sorry but if there's a product that's exactly the same yet available cheaper somewhere else, I'm worrying about my own finances first and getting the cheaper product.

You sound just like a pharmacy lobbyist. Counter opinion: Pharmacy should be a TAFE course - a trained monkey could do it. Pharmacists should be in supermarket stores, just like overseas - the rest of the world gets by just fine with that system. And I struggle to think of the last time I got any genuinely useful advice from a pharmacist. Pharmacies are world leaders in marketing, not health - lost count of the number of times I've been asked the pharmacy equivalent of "would you like fries with that?" Proof is that even the pharmacy owners see pharmacists -their own profession - as checkout chicks, based on the wages they pay.

      • You're right in that anyone with sufficient training can process a script, however only a pharmacist has the necessary training to fulfil all the other requirements, such as checking interactions with concurrent medications, checking dose, giving appropriate counselling etc.

As for "would you like fries with that" I assume you're refering to the common question "Would you prefer the generic brand". In other countries you'll take the brand you're given and if you don't like that brand, tough luck. Whereas in Australia, patients are given their choice of brand and it is up to the pharmacies to educate the patients that generic brands are completely equivalent and NOT LIKE A SUPERMARKET HOMEBRAND. However, no matter how many times you explain this to people, some of them simply won't believe you. So the reason you're asked each time is because that's the way we currently have to do it. I personally always take the generic brand for myself and if I had the option I would simply give 100% of my patients generic brands. Currently only about 20% of them prefer the expensive brand, the other 80% all take a generic brand.

        • 100% equivalent - what about Ranbaxy ;)

        • Not convinced that although chemists are trained to check medication interactions, that they do so. Eg. mother-in-law was on medication that counteracted with each other for some years as well as medication that was not supposed to be taken more than a few weeks but on it for years. None picked up till different GP was visited by chance. My GP now has access to software that cross checks prescribed medication during consultation and this would seem to be more practical route.

        • Also a program that could cross check repeated comments would be great.

        • Technically many pharmacists rely on the dispensing software for interactions.

        • Even doing this, you need to interpret what is clinically significant/relevant and what is not.

This is the exact same argument spouted by the pharmacy guild about why their industry is different and why they should not be subject to the chill winds of competition. Frankly, it's plain rent seeking and quite ridiculous. Every profession can make the same argument. Ultimately, there is no reason why pharmacies should be protected from competition any more than, say, lawyers, dentists or accountants. Without competition prices will rise, the quality of service will fall and we will all be worse off. The pharmacy guild has been incredibly successful lobbying government to restrict the supply of chemists. But with the internet they seem to have finally met their match. Not before time too.

It's amazing to realize that there are so many pharmacists on ozbargain. We truly are earning minimum wage.

    • can be had from ebay aussie seller: 60 caps of ZMA for $12.

      • 60 caps or 60 servings? Most ZMAs I've seen are 3 caps = 1 serving
