$39 - 210mm Compound Mitre Saw @ Masters

500

This is a great little Mitre saw for light DIY work.

It was a great deal at ~$50 before, but at $39 it really is a proper bargain.

even better if you still havent used your free $20 gift card from the australia day promo

  • Not a big fan of cheap power tools… But for light duty jobs, it doesn't look too bad for $39. Especially having a mitre!
But you'll probably want to replace the blade for someting a bit finer!

  • Is this worth it with $10 postage? Delivery to Adelaide as there's no masters here except at Mt Gambier…

    • its still a cheap saw.

buy a few other items on Masters website, spend $120, and get $25 off. see their deal for clickfrenzy, and its posted on their website too.

  • Bugga…just bought this last week to do the floor in the onsite van.
but its not worth the petrol or time to return it for $11 saving.

You could always contact them about their masters promise thing. They say they'll beat better prices by 10% up to 30 days after purchase. Maybe email them and check

    • Yep… Agree with mskram! Check their promise here: https://miy.masters.com.au/about/masters-promise

It's screaming dangerous all over the place if using this without a proper mitre saw table…

    • +1

Really? We have a similar one sold at Aldi a while back, used it for about 20 or so cuts on the garage floor. No lost limbs or digits yet…

As long as you use it sensibly, I don't think there's an issue. Sure, any tradies here probably won't want one as doing any heavy duty work is going to ruin it pretty quick, but for people to have around the house for just odd DIY jobs, these are great.

Not at all, this model (like most) has bolt holes and flat positions on every corner so you can easily clamp it down.

I have a similar ozito, and I'm currently typing with all 10 fingers several months after purchase! :)

      • +2

yeah, but you're holding your fingers between your lips

    • Nah mate, my father-in-law has it bolted to a bit of wood on rollers, works really well.

    • What happens if you use this and don't bolt it down?

      • +2

        nothing. santa may not come

i have never bolted down one of these saws in 20 years of using them.

        • +2

I just use mine on my lap. Safer then the circular saw I had before.

        • +2

That's a sure way to end up with a saw groin.

        • *a sawn groin

As long as you have a flat and stable surface you'll be right. I got the larger size of this and we use it on our workbench, on the deck, on the driveway etc wherever its needed.

    • Thanks I was only too anxious then.

    • And like everyone above… I've got a Makita drop saw that's never been clamped, bolted, screwed or by any means other than gravity holding it down!!!

It's screaming dangerous all over the place if using this without a proper mitre saw table…

i don't think so. there is a small kick when it starts up but it won't move the base. you also need to let it stop before lifting the blade after the cut to prevent kick backs

i bought the $99 sliding compound saw http://www.masters.com.au/product/900023082/909-255mm-single… a while back and have had no problems with it (besides replacing the blade with one with more teeth)

      • im actually more tempted by this sliding compound saw instead…. thanks for posting!

spend a little extra and get something much more practical.

        • Being a noob and willing to learn have to ask this question:
What is the difference between the 210mm one and the 255mm apart from the size?

        • That's the main difference. lol

In all seriousness though, it will determine the size of the material you can cut with it, and you'd probably find you had to replace blades more often for the same ammount of cutting. This also has a 1400w motor compared to 2000w on the other one.

        • +1

the 255mm one slides out so you can cut wider pieces of wood up to 295mm. it has a slightly bigger blade so it will do up to 81mm deep. it's also got a laser.

  • great deal considering bunnings own ozito brand is about 79 bucks

    • we have the little Ozito at work. Does the job fine for what we do, (chop up hardwood 100x50 into 100-200mm lengths)

  • Still no Masters in Adelaide. Great price.

  • I bought one from costco 6 months ago for ~$90. This is a great deal.

  • I have an old GMC one, same same but different stickers. Great for the home user. One job was a 30sqmr house ext. I gave it a horrid time cutting a heap of pavers with a masonry blade once.. still works well. The cheaper blades are always the 180mm size, not the 210 :-(

  • thx got one

  • I'm a serious noob at this shit, but can you swap the blade to a tile cutter?
Or is this a wood only jobbie?

    • +1

'usually' you need a cutter that feeds water onto the blade for tile cutting. i have seen it done with a normal saw such as the one posted, but it is highly unrecommended (as it thrashes the machine)

  • this is perfect for cutting your own finger off as well as other useful household tasks like cutting live electric wires

    • +1

Not quite sure exactly how you'd go holding this up open faced on a stud wall to be cutting through the wires… But I'll take your word for it!!!

      • +2

It's a lot easier than trying to do it with a pair of old scissors… It used to give me the shits every time the wife told me to cut the wires in the wall, but since I got one of these, I actually enjoy my housework!

        • i remember the seinfeld episode where kramer stuck a paper clip across the two terminals in a power outlet to short the circuit. you should advise her to do that first. safety first!

        • +1

every time the wife told me to cut the wires

Are you sure she was asking you to "cut the wires?", and not maybe to "cut the strings?" ;)

        • The instruction varies depending on the time of the month, or if the kids are being a pain. But hey, as long as I have a power tool to do the cutting, I will cut just about anything I'm told to!

  • it only has a 24 tooth blade. you will probably need to buy a 40+ tooth blade as well

  • +1

I keep seeing all these power tool bargains but I can't buy them because I have no idea how to use them. Very frustrating!

    • This one's easy… Plug it in, pull the trigger and pull it down!!!
That's how you use it. What you use it for and how good you use it is an entirely different thing!

    • this tool is useful if you want to cut pieces of wood (up to ~210mm wide, 55mm deep) at right angles or 45 degrees

      • Will it cut timber up to 210mm wide at a 45º mitre?

        • Not without having to turn it around.

        • LoL… I was kind of joking at the 'info' provided!!!

      • actually it says it only does 120mm x 55mm on a straight cut

        http://909.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=y…
        Cutting Capacities:
Bevel Cuts: 0°–45° to the Left
        Straight Cut: 0° x 0°: 55mm (21/8") x 120mm (4¾")
        Mitre Cut: 45° x 0°: 55mm (21/8") x 83mm (3¼")
        Bevel Cut : 0° x 45°: 30mm (11/8") x 120mm (4¾")
        Compound Mitre Cut: 45° x 45°: 30mm (11/8") x 83mm (3¾")

  • Something I've needed from time to time so just went and got one. Now I probably won't need it for years but great price and have it for when I need it.

  • Thanks OP… signed up for the $25 off first, then got this and a better blade for this and another blade for my table saw… came to just over the $125 needed to get the $25 discount… nice.. I am quickly running out of reasons why I can't finish off the caravan rebuild!! :)

  • Is this only to cut wood? Can u cut concrete pavers with this?

    • you will need a different blade & i think you also need a dribble of water from a hose for lubrication. things are going to get real messy. you also need to check the specs to see if you can cut them in one pass

      • HHhmmm…..think I better go inquire with Bunnings before driving all the way to Masters for this. Thanks for the info.

        • The motor might not take concrete to well.

  • FINALLY managed to find my $20 masters gift card from the comp last year……. $28 to my door… complete bargain
