? I read plenty of books thanks, just implying that most people are now downloading ebooks and less and less paperbacks are being sold

I'm sorry if my lack of book sale knowledge has offended you. Perhaps you should write some books yourself so that we may all learn from you.

          oh mel gibson…

I believe Amazon has stated e-book sales have surpassed physical. However Amazon is only one store, albeit the most popular book retailer in Australia (based on sales).

Maybe you should read the voting rules and guidelines.

  • thanks OP, grabbed a book with free shipping (saved $6.50 :))

  • OH GOD I COULD HAVE SAVED $6.50

Why you no tell me before :(

    (Good find by the way)

I often berate myself for not reading more. Then I find lists of books like these, and I don't feel so bad.

(But thanks for the deal OP)

  • Anyone tried this? :)

    • Potentially you won't be able to use this voucher (as per their terms)

  • What is meant by 'Remember to use starthere (or similar) rebate'?

    • I use starthere (see website www.starthere.com.au) for all my purchases.
sign up, then search for booktopia from their website and then purchase in order to get rebate… (you must follow the link from the site). However, as a previous user mentioned it may not apply for this free shipping offer.
Also rebate sites can be a bit hit and miss, so don't buy anything just for the rebate.

I'm surprised this has so many + votes … its the same "clearance" crap they've had for the last 12+ months, that they cannot get rid of! A few years back they had real "clearance" sales, with decent titles, but those days are long gone :(

    • I wasn't going to post it, but I think with the free shipping code (save $6.50) it's quite good. You don't have to choose from the link; they do have other good titles available.

    • You would have to pay mMMMEEEEEEE to read most of the crap they have

  • +3

For the few books I have on my wish list, every one of them is cheaper on Bookdepository than Booktopia even after applying the 40-50% clearance discount and the free shipping… No bargain found here.

    • Because they're not on sale

  • I need to learn about investing in shares and have very little knowledge of investing. Should I get this book? http://www.booktopia.com.au/investment-getting-started-majel…
    Or is it outdated?

    • Wouldn't recommend it - it looks much too simplistic. You'll learn nothing worth applying to anything.

Instead, find a copy of Warren Buffett's old letters to his stockholders of Berkshire. Essays of Warren Buffett by Cunningham. If you want some more technical stuff, but would like to stay in the realm of 'everyday consumer', try The Intelligent Investor by Ben Graham. It's written for a wide audience, as opposed to Security Analysis, also by Graham, which brings it into old school investment banker territory.

I've got a huge stack of finance books that I need to read, I've been told they're all brilliant, but those are the ones that are near-universally adored. Don't buy into the snake-oil from people like Belfort, Kiyosaki and Trump. True authorities on the subject like Ben Graham, Philip Fisher, Jack Schwager, Buffett ofc, and textbook authors like John Hull and Aswath Damodaran (who takes emails and replies, btw) are the way to go.

Edit: On the deal - it's free shipping, sounds good.

  • Used the code last night, thanks OP :-)

If you have kids between 7-12 they may like the Beast Quest series of books. Pretty formulaic, but my son really likes them (and whatever gets boys reading is good, right?).

They have 20-odd of them for a dollar each here: http://www.booktopia.com.au/search.ep?author=Adam+Blade&prod…

And the free shipping code still worked for me, so I will have one very happy son when these arrive :)
