Travelling to US - need to know sneaky OZB phone trick

Hello all,

I'm heading to the US for work in August and need to be contactable from Australia on my unlocked iPhone 4s. I plan on buying a SIM when I get there. Is there a trick for setting up a local AUS number that transfers/dials to my new US number?

Basically, I want colleagues to be able to dial a local AUS number and still reach me in America.

Thanks!

    Skype or similar.

Buy a Skype AU number and forward your mobile to the Skype number. This will then go through to your phone as a Skype call.

Similarly in return, you can use Skype to dial out to AU numbers making the call at local rates.

    • or VoIP (if iPhone supports VoIP)

    • Thanks. So I've bought a Skype Number with VIC "03" prefix. I just tested and it called my mobile (great) but it called my actual mobile somehow and not Skype on my mobile?

Don't care so long as it works, but surely that won't work with a different US SIM card, right?

    Hi RJ,

Did you setup a forward from mobile to Skype number, or vice versa?

It should connect to you through Skype.

    • Aha! I think that might be it. I do already have Skype configured to forward to my mobile. So, presumably, I'll change that "forward-to" number to the new US SIM number when I get it. Thanks.
