Deals Direct - Is it just me or are they a well organised scam?

I have (for the second time in the last six months)just been informed that the item i bought and paid for from Deals Direct, is now not available and they will refund my money.

They didnt figure this out until i have been chasing them to find out why it has not been delivered, its been nearly a month and they had made no contact, i spoke to their live chat whol told me to wait, i would get it, but after another week i chased again, that is when they decided to tell me they cant supply and will refund.

So, they have had my (and presumably hundreds/thousands of others)money in their account and i assume making reasonable investment returns from it, while my interest payments are lowered (now to be fair its only a few $100 but, im an ozbargainer and them getting my interest, is simply offensive.

so, are they just a scam, i started chasing my purchase pretty early, and they will have only had it about 4 weeks but i can imagine that many people wouldnt and they might be sitting and earning from it for many months?

Seems a very easy way to make money, take it from someone else, invest it, then give it back a month later.

They're probably drop shippers, or at the very least, waiting for more stock from a supplier.

I'm not sure 4 months interest would justify the time it takes to refund it back etc etc

I think legit, received some items from then already

  • Ordered a few items from them in the past and have no problem receiving them. Quality wise ,not as good as it seems, but with cheap price I am not complaining .

  • I have only ordered once from them and my item came in 2 days but only after i ordered it i read the reviews for the website and they were pretty bad, most of them had the same issue as you. I reckon its just luck that your item will come, i personally wouldn't order anything expensive from them.

Never had an issue with them before. Everything I've ordered has arrived in good condition.

  • Okay, I raised a similar issue with the ACCC in regards to a Woolworths online non-supply issue. I also started an Ozbargain discussion about the practice of charging BEFORE supply. Woolworths took my money, delivered 2 of 4 items, and I got a re-credit 6 days later. I contacted them and the response was simply "that's the way we do things". The ACCC replied to my online complaint saying they would not investigate (didn't expect them to), referred me to local consumer organisations and said they had noted the issue in their database (which is why I complained - and what I recommend you do if you feel strongly enough about the practice). BUT, and this is key, it is already prohibited by consumer law (ie it's illegal) to offer goods when you knew, or SHOULD HAVE KNOWN, that you would be unable to supply the goods.

  • I've bought a lot of things from them. Never had any issues.

  • I've ordered several things from them, all of which have arrived. In one case though, the rug I bought was not shipped for 2+ weeks (so it took about a month to get to me) - this supports the dropshipper/waiting for supplier theory.

  • No, I am not happy. three of five items were not delivered and only after making an enquiry was my money refunded as being 'out of stock' despite being in stock when making the purchase.
