Good spotting - although you are a bit over-zealous - I checked this TV on Good Guys site 2 days ago and it was almost $3,000.

  • +1

As usual good guys are best for electronics and white goods IMO. There should be some good deals on full HD TVs as 4K take off.

  • Note: Good Guys have fixed price delivery (within 40KM of store) of $40 for TVs. Or free to pick up from nearest store with stock.

    • I bought my TV from Good Guys a few months ago, and it was $50 to deliver it 10km. I've never heard of $40 delivery before.

      • Its listed on their site - I guess its a new fixed price.

I have this TV and its epic.

    • +1

Wish I could get stoned too

    • How far back do you sit in front of the this TV for usual viewing?

      • +23

I place it in my neighbours lounge…

  • 70" inch is huge

  • +1

70 inch feels kinda small after seeing the 80 inch sharp, 84 or 85 inch Samsung.. I think the 90 inch sharp is out soon?

    • +1

In the US you can get a 94" Mitsubishi but for some reason they don't sell that brand TV here in Australia :(

      • I looked into it, they are cheap as too! Different format, voltage, etc. never bringing to Australia.

    • Yep 90" Sharp is available for around $14K

      • +7

… and I can go to cinema for $10.

        • +1

I think the money I spent on my HT is more than worth it to avoid the dickheads at the local cinema.

Although, IMHO, once you get to 60" TVs, you'd get a better bang-of-the-buck with a projector.

        • True… If looking at image size/$ spent.
My Sanyo ceiling mounted full HD projector cost me $1600 3 years ago and gives me a 120" picture (more if I had a larger screen).

However projectors have their downsides - cabling - mounting - shorter bulb life than TV - most of all unless you have a dedicated HT room with dark walls/ceiling then dark scenes (which almost all movies/programs have) can look pretty average / washed out - hard to make a white screen display black.
Brightly lit scenes look awesome though.

    • Here he is.

  • great price for a big tv

  • +2

Do you think TV sizes could head the opposite direction?
eg. contact lens TVs (wait for it… with Retina…. boom-tish)

    • But how can I check OzBargain and watch TV at the same time if my whole eye is taken up by the screen?

      • +2

        Picture in picture.

  • 3 year manufacturer warranty makes this tv even better value. It's very tempting but no 3D, no smart features & no wifi is an issue. Great find op.

  • This tv is very ordinary, maybe i am biased because i like plasma. My mate got one from gg last week for 2200 with 5yr warranty. Got less features than my 2yr old telly.

    • Your mate got this TV from GG for $2200? Wow. Display model?
Any chance of him posting a pic of the receipt ?

Oh FFS… not having any luck with this TV!

Would recommend it though, especially at this price. If you don't need many features, but want a BIG screen, this could be the TV for you.

    • I retract my 'FFS'! Went in today, and although the 30 days had passed (by a week), they gave us the difference (around $400), since we only actually received the TV last week.

Thanks heaps systmworks, your messages on here and WP helped me out, I probably wouldn't have bothered otherwise! :)

      • Yay - I am glad that Good Guys looked after you.
I pulled the trigger on this TV this morning at Good Guys just after opening - drove it home - by lunchtime it was mounted on the wall.

I have not calibrated the picture yet (besides selecting "Movie" for AV Mode, and "Dot by Dot" for Wide Mode to get 1:1 pixel mapping from 1080p player with no overscan) but played a few scenes from Avatar bluray and it looked very nice.
Despite plasma generally having better black levels than LCD, this TV looks to have deeper blacks than my 8 month old LG plasma I am about to sell.

There are various user recommended calibration settings posted in this forum: http://www.avsforum.com/t/1350285/official-sharp-2011-lc-70l…

And you can download a free calibration disk (burn to DVD) with lots of test patterns and instructions on how to properly set brightness, contrast, sharpness, colour tint, etc etc.

  • Got a few lcds of various size but we seem to be relying a lot more on smart tech, even just for youtubes and catch up telly, none of them have it so currently hdmi the laptop.
Next TV I buy will have it all built in me thinks

  • Get an android tv stick for 50 bucks suddenly ur inadequate tv is upgraded with all the smart features and apps and linked to ur other android drvices

Just bought a new TV yesterday arvo with the JB 15% off sale. From the stores i went into: Bing Lee wont match JB prices, Harvey Norman bitched about it for ages and carried on about stock and told me i wouldnt get it for ages, "sold out australia wide, blablabla". I didnt go into the Good guys but i noticed on their website they had already matched the JB Prices with some (maybe all) models. JB was so much <MOD - Removed foul language> easier to deal with than the other jokers i spoke to though. But it does seem like they have already sold a buttload of TVs and you will have to order the popular models in. JB were also prepared to do the 15 percent off a special order model i asked about.

Experience was in the Newcastle region.

    • I like that Good Guys are now often price matching/beating their competitors automatically without having to ask - and find their staff and managers are generally very nice to deal with - and you can tell who the staff are as they wear uniforms (not jeans/T-shirt like JB) - and you don't have to fight through a crowd.

Mostly however its their 30 day price guarantee. If over the next month one of the other retailers advertises a lower price they will refund 120% of the difference. Most of the other retailers will price match before sale but once they have your money they don't usually give any back.

      • I have had my goodguys not price match on a local store as "it will cost them money" and advise me to buy from them, So I would hate to try and get my 120% difference…

        • I've only used the 120% difference once (on my last TV) and they were quite happy to refund me the 120% (was only around $20) 3 weeks after my purchase.

Perhaps you got the sales rep or manager on an off day. Unless their price match policy says they dont have to do it if below cost, then they really have to honour their advertised policy.

    Hi,
Just bought it from JB HiFi Indooroopilly (QLD) $2440.
No issue with price matching and took off a bit as we were wavering to pay with Amex which had a surcharge. In the end payed Mastercard and didn't pay surcharge and still got my CC 1 year extra warranty
Myer Indooroopilly would sell it for $3990 only as the lowest he could go, even with his price matching policy.
We did pay for delivery $75 for a Saturday delivery so we did need to be home but didn't buy extended warranty etc.
Deal was done in about 3 minutes.

  • Please note that if you want to sport a 70" screen, make sure you also increase the viewing distance.

The larger the screen, the less detail (at a fixed resolution) you get, but the more people you can fit in a room sharing the same experience.

Also this LED is full array, but it is not localised-dimming (unless they forgot to advertise it), which means you will get potentially horrible blacks and clouding will be present.

    • Good info re seating distance.

You are right this TV does not have local dimming. However the reviews of the blacks/contrast/picture quality are generally good (to get amazing it looks like twice the price for a high end Sammy/Panny).

(shows before and after calibration settings/results)

For anyone who has this TV and would like to try some alternative settings Id recommend checking out the settings in that link above as they should be an improvement over factory.

These settings also recieved lots of positive comments from users:
      http://forums.cnet.com/7723-19410_102-535396/sharp-lc-70le73…

Small component differences/tolerances means ideal settings can vary between 2 identical sets, but it will get you 90% of the way there, and then adjust to personal taste, or pay ~$300 for a professional calibrator to visit.

  • ordered one from the good guys yesterday for $2437 +47 delivery.
they didnt have any in stock, so need to wait 7-10 days.
they did however let me pay with amex, which is always a bonus

  • EXPIRED: Now $2987, lowest is $2950 on staticice

  • MOD? Expired. Lowest still $2950 on staticice (BigBrownBox). Thanks.
