    Hi,

    This is a MacBookPro8,1
    Model Number A1278

    The RAM you require is 204-pin PC-10600 (1333 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM

When considering how much RAM you require, allow for how much the Operating System needs.

Will you be upgrading to OS 10.8 (or 10.9)?

Then you need enough RAM for your Applications. More RAM is better and some Applications are quite RAM intensive, this means not having enough your Apps will be slow or you may get a Beachball (while waiting).

If you currently have 4GB this is probably 2GB in Slot 1 and 2GB in Slot 2.

You can go to 8GB via 4GB in Slot 1 and 4GB in Slot 2 with

You can identify what RAM you require by using the Crucial.com memory scanner (google it) and it will suggest what sort of RAM you need to buy. It always suggests Crucial branded memory as marketing but you don't neccessary have to get Crucial.

    • Thanks scrimshaw used the Crucial® Memory Advisor helped heaps cheers.
