IKEA Clearance Sale

122

Just saw on the IKEA website that they're having a clearance sale. It expires on 29/03/2009 so there's some time left.

      No its not.
Shame the poster of this "bargain" didn't mention that.
Or what some of the clearance items are.

    • or SA. Eastern states only.

  • Thanks for posting this, although I don't understand why IKEA go out of their way to announce a "CLEARANCE SALE". Ie. at Logan they've only got 6 discounted products.

Well Homebush seems to have just one product. A pack of candles.

      • +1

The Homebush clearance items are under the INSTORE SPECIALS tab.
More than just a pack of candles.
        Here they are:

    lol what a joke

  • I don't think these are particular bad offers. Obviously clearance stock isn't always going to be what people are after, hence why stores try and get rid of it, but pricewise, for some items, it's a decent saving. +ve vote from me.

  • Went to IKEA at Rhodes today.
Extremely packed, extremely hard to find parking.
People with furniture cart & families with baby prams everywhere, hitting you accidentally here and there.
Children running around and crashing onto you, with their parents not paying attention.
    Not a great experience.

    For what?

They seem to be advertising this like crazy, only for a few discounted items?
    Sensationalism, I say.

The discount compared to the amount of petrol spent, the extremely long waiting time to get parking, the peace of mind lost from such crowd…
    Not a real bargain actually.

    • I agree…

    • This happens EVERY weekend. They really need to fix access in terms of lifts to IKEA as well as the parking fiasco. I still think the deals offered aren't bad (I'm not the OP) but to negative due to parking is a bit harsh.

No offence but going to Ikea on a weekend is asking for trouble. There's just too many people. And they are not there just for clearance, most people in fact don't know anything about clearance. People just go to Ikea on weekends.

I understand that very well. However, for a lot of people going there on weekends is the only available option.
I went there quite a few times for years, and they were crowded, but still bearable.
Yesterday was so crowded that I would actually disagree with "most people in fact don’t know anything about clearance". In fact it was so crowded that Rhodes shopping centre had to put quite a few staff on every parking level and shopping mall exits.

  • I went to IKEA NSW ("Rhodes Shopping Centre") from GOSFORD (NSW) by train last Saturday. Took about 1 hour 15 minutes "door to door".

    It was perfect!

Forget the car, go by train!

Go to STRATHFIELD STATION; then catch the NORTHERN LINE train to RHODES STATION, which is directly across the road from the Shopping Centre.

You can cart most bulky goods to the train station by trolley.

And try the IKEA HOT FOOD CAFETERIA on Level 1. Apart from Swedish Meatballs, they also have a new, limited-time addition of $9.95 Salmon & Cous-Cous; and Snitchel (sp).

Also, on Ground Level exit, there is a IKEA COLD FOOD STORE. You can buy Swedish caviar for $6.99 (better than the "Huon Caviar" from COLES), and a bulk pack of SWEDISH-style MEATBALLS (made in Australia) for $10.

It's definately an experience going to the only IKEA in NSW!

P.S: Check the Labels of the goods you buy. It's really weird. They have Flower Vases MADE IN RUSSIA; Napkins MADE IN USA; Chairs MADE IN VIETNAM; and Cushions MADE IN URUGUAY! I have never seen so much stuff made in so many places in the World. They really are the United Nations of manufacturing stuff! Definately not the 100% MADE IN CHINA crap you see in all those $2 shops!

    • I definitely have to give the caviar I a try sometime. I've never tasted it.

That would be great option if you're going there only for window shopping or small goods purchase.
I went there to buy an office chair. It would be too unwieldly for me to carry those around to train station and bus.

I just decided to go yesterday because I heard of the clearance & thought I might get a few good bargains along the way. Wrong move.

    • Good stuff.
I bought a few pieces from the Malm range and one is made in Lithuania (where my father came from) and another piece came from Poland (where my Mother's parents came from).
Wonder with the econmic crisis and Ikea's largest store being built in Springvale, VIC that the "cheap Chinese goods" will pop up more frequently.

  • At least IKEA have stopped ther huge discount item sale every few months.
These were advertised in the front of their catalogue.
Staff have told me how packed it got in there.
Then I see people 6 months later selling them on eBay for a profit.
Let them clear the "slow" moving lines for 50% off.
But popular items should never go on sale :-)
