That's an ok deal pity it's not the new art series lens though that would been a lot better

    • is it a noticeable upgrade to the art version?

  • +3

Note, I'm pretty sure this lens is NOT designed to work with full frame digital SLR's, its made for crop sensors.

For canon users, it would be equivalent of an EF-S lens.

    • correct

  • Why you no tick rep box?

    • not a rep, reading back it does really seem like i am tho haha

Nah, it's not rep like. You talk about your own gear, rough shipping to different areas (a rep could give a exact range), it was cheaper somewhere else. Maybe it's the non grey import & PayPal fees talk, but I'd want to see that info rep or not.
        Nice job Matt.

        • thanks

  • can I use it on sony nex c3 ? just start so I don't know any about lens.

    • No - this is Sony Alpha mount - Unless you use LA-EA1/LA-EA2 adapters it will NOT work directly on a NEX.

  • Is this the newer Art-version or not?

Can you read? No where on the page does it state it is the new Art version. Also the image and description is of the original 30/1.4. Hmmm, maybe if you order it, they will send you the new version!!

Thanks for that friendly response. On some better camera sales places web sites, they rarely seem to actually state whether it's the Art version or not. See for example:
        http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt=sigma+30mm+1.4&N=0&…
        and:
        http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3D…
Now, you'd say none of those are the Art versions there, because it doesn't say so on the item name? If you always trust the images on web shops to be the exact item you'll receive, then good luck to you.
Anyway, I guess the only proper indication should be the price, and in this case this isn't really much of a bargain.

just thought id point if you are talking about the actual images on these web shops.. they are indeed the exact item you receive

I would be more inclined to buy the Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G Lens (for $275 from JB, as low as $230 grey import) for a Nikon DX.

Not to say this is a bad deal, but just not what I would pick.

    • For Nikon users, I agree. Hell, even Sony users have a cheap 35mm f/1.8.

For Canon APS-C and Pentax shooters though, this is probably the most affordable option to get a 30/35mm fast prime.

If anyone is interested, I just bought the Nikkor 35mm mentioned here. Kogan had it for $209, and I asked Teds cameras online to match it. They came back and said they could do $250. I then asked in-store, and they matched the $250. (Aus stock and warranty).

      Great lens so far.

  • For what it's worth Georges in Sydney have it for $330 in case it's easier for some people to pick it up in town:

Not a bad deal although I already got the 50 f1.4 which is a better lens and produces better bokeh
