SGS2 - gallery crashing (help!)

Hi all.
My SGS2 is starting to die on me… I can't seem to access the camera photo gallery. It sort of just hangs on me whenever I try to get to the photos.

Having said that, if I wanted to upload photos to fb, for example, it doesn't have any problems.

Could someone please tell me:

  1. what can I do to fix this? and if I can't fix it…
  2. how do I move photos from my phone to a computer? I borrowed my friend's USB cable, but the computer couldn't "sense" the phone…

Thanks.

    1. Use Quickpic https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alensw.Pic…
    2. Make sure the cable is genuine, maybe try different usb ports.
  • Thanks ozhunter. Quickpic works like a charm.

Is there something wrong with my gallery then and not so much a memory issue?

I will see if I can find my original cable.

    • Fix for stock android gallery crash

Sometimes, after syncing items to your Android phone's storage card, the stock gallery application will start acting like it's force-closing immediately it's opened.

Here is how to fix it without having to back-up your SD card and format it, then restore.

Settings > Applications > Manage Applications
      click "All" applications tab

      "Clear Data" on Media Storage
      "Clear Data" on Gallery

back out to Settings > SD card & phone storage

      Unmount SD card

Once the SD card is unmounted, you should power-off your phone.

when the OS reboots, open the stock gallery application

The gallery will display "Loading Media Files" and a quick toast saying 'Loading' will fade off the screen, and the busy icon will display in the gallery's chrome. The main display of the gallery will show a default icon for media files.

It will take some time to rescan your photos and videos, but you will have your stock android gallery working again.

      • Thanks. That helped too! (in response to clear data)…

Edit: spoke to soon… hanging again. :(

        Screen started heating up too…
Will try again… with all the extra steps you suggested.

        • Try a different SD card for good measure. Or just quick format it to FAT32.

It could be a corrupted file in the picture folder that's causing your Gallery app to crash.

      • I did all that and I've been trying to use gallery again and it's still hanging.

I put it to charge and had dinner and it kept trying to reboot, like for a good half hour, and it was heating up again. I've switched it off now to charge… Will try to reload again soon…. Not winning. :(

  • perhaps try a factory reset if all else fails, usually the easiest solution for most problems
