  • Bought one for myself for Father's Day. Thanks.

  • its $11 for me. is there a coupon to use?

  • Ha ha…cant help myself, must get another one.

  • Got one earlier this year from tmart. Just used it to monitor 12v batteries while camping for a week. Works well and pretty solid considering the price.

  • No good. Where is the AC current?

    • +3

think about what you said carefully. and think how can this actually measure it

Edit: apparently you can get multimeters that read AC current but they're much more expensive. I've honestly never seen one.

Edit 2: or a clamp meter, which I have seen but can't measure DC current http://www.harborfreight.com/digital-clamp-on-multimeter-956…

        • You can get a clamp meter for under $10. I don't know if they are any good.

        • +2

Both of my multimeters will measure AC current - one is a 30 year old DSE analogue meter,
the other is a DMM. So I'm amazed you've never seen a multimeter which measures AC current.
Granted, I'm probably expecting too much from a $6 DMM.

        • breaking a circuit to put it in series and risking death? no thanks

        • Your post prompted me to look into it meroveus, and they're definitely out there but I had never seen a standard multimeter with AC current (more likely I'd never noticed).

And they're not that much more expensive either http://m.jaycar.com.au/m_productView.asp?ID=QM1323

          Hmmm… You live and learn!

        • AC clamp meters work well if the currents are in the range of 10A to 1000A, not the sort of currents the average person will see. However, if the wire is thin enough and flexible enough, you can wind ten turns of the wire through the jaws, and get good results down to 1A, but 1A current will show on the display as 10A.

There are also DC clamp meters. I bought one of these a while ago, and because they measure the DC magnetic field, they are affected by any DC magnetic field, including the Earth's magnetic field. I found the readings had an error of up to 100mA, so you need to be measuring a few amps before the error gets small enough to be insignificant.

        • $39.95

im not quite sure how an almost $40 (no doubt plus huge shipping) crapcar multimeter is meant to compare to a ~$6 delivered one……

maybe you need to just buy a $5000 fluke one and be done with "cheap" shit ones?

        • I had never seen a standard multimeter with AC current

Modern digital multimeters always have both AC and DC current ranges. If they don't have current ranges at all, they are more precisely called voltmeters, not multimeters.

On analog multimeters, cheap ones may skip AC current ranges, because the knob controls a rotary switch, and rotary switches with more than 12 positions are considerably more expensive. Better quality analog multimeters have AC current ranges, and according to Wikipedia "After copper oxide instrument rectifiers became available in the late 1920s, a 20-range 'Universal' version of the Avometer was introduced in 1931 having both direct and alternating voltage current ranges".

  • Bought one last deal 06/08/13 still not received. What is the delivery time frame rep?

    • I got mine at same time. It arrived a few days ago… Battery included ;)

Screws are terrible. I almost couldn't get the thing apart. Build quality is sturdy for the price. Would definitely reccomend (if you replace screws).

  • Just bought one for $6.79 AUD, thanks.

  • Hello rep,

Does this include the 9V battery to operate it or do you have to purchase it separately?

    Thanks.

  • Bought one last time, works well. And it came with a 9V battery too.

  • +1

I got one last time but haven't used it yet. Couldn't undo the screws to put the battery in. Am I missing something?

    • The screws are awful. The heads burr like they're made of rice paper. Pull off the yellow sleeve and make sure you haven't damaged the head of the screw…

  • Also bought one and have received. Battery came with it. To remove screws, remove yellow cover to expose screws

  • All I see is AU$7.79. What am i doing wrong?

    • Hi, Sharp, the stock is used up and the price goes up.

  • Been over a month now and haven't received my multimeter.

    • i got mine ages ago, email them and let them know.

  • Hmm I actually got a shipping notification on 10th Sept! I also ordered that sticky pad and didn't get that either. Lost shipment?

    • +1

yea it happens quite a bit. i lose maybe 1 in 10 from asia at times, the other times i wont have one lost for months. usually the companies/reps are good at sorting it out tho.

      • man that sucks. So do you think they would sound out another unit?

        • you will have to contact them, mostly different places have been good with me.

        • Cheers
