Bought 3 packs for $2.70 at Raine Square Perth city today.
Aldi sell for $0.99 each at NSW stores until next Wednesday.
Just want to warn fellow OZBs to be careful when spending your hard earned dosh on these cheap strawberries. I bought a pack and they were huge and delicious looking.
The key word here is 'looking'. I suspect they are cheap because they are the blandest and most ordinary strawberries I have ever tasted. So bad I threw most out.
So I think fertilised or GM strawberries, or whatever they do to make them so big and so cheap, also makes them taste so crap. Nothing better than a normal sized sweet juicy strawberry from the local farms.
This is typical of non-local strawberries in Australia. The varieties grown do not bruise, but have zero taste and they are harvested too early because of long distance transportation. When I go to Europe, I enjoy eating the real things from produce markets there.
I've been so disappointed with strawberries here since I lived in Japan. There you pay for the strawberries - about $6 or $7 a punnet for "ordinary" large ones - but they are all fantastic, so juicy and sweet, consistently. I've tried buying here when they look and smell great, but mostly am so disappointed. The punnets I bought from Coles recently were tasteless - really like eating water. Hope the Woolies ones are better.
Still waiting for watermelon sized strawberries :P
it's still cheap…
these are not the best strawberries, but you do get a few good ones in each pack. if they are too bland for you use them in a smoothie or make jam or something.
Bought 3 pack for $3, in Royal Randwick, NSW
Not A bad deal :p
