Ultra GPS Logger is a GPS Tracker which allows you to generate NMEA, KML and/or GPX logs with your GPS or GLONASS enabled Android device. It is able to keep GPS on during standby, which enables logging of a long period of time without the need of interaction with the device.

Ultra GPS Logger logs raw NMEA sentences! This is much more accurate than other products which just log every minute… It also supports intelligent KML/GPX output, which logs only real movement. Ultra GPS Logger also lets your device vibrate and flash its led in case the GPS fix is lost. Furthermore it represents your track on Google Map or Open Street Map!

User feedback is highly appreciated. Ultra GPS Logger is used for a variety of activities, like hiking, sailing, car / motorcycle / yacht racing. Let me know what you use Ultra GPS Logger for :-))

  • Code is:
    appoftheday
    (case sensitive)

    • Thank you yud

    • I can't find anywhere in the Lite version to enter the code - do I have to click 'Buy' for the standard version, then enter appoftheday at the payment scree?

Standard version is $4.99, but maybe there's a box at the payment screen allowing a discount code to be entered. I don't need this app enough to risk an accidental $4.99 purchase just to test it, but it could come in handy in future.

  • one deal is for the ULTRA version- which shows at 4.99..this one for LITE version which is free - clarify please?

    • The code unlocks the ultra version

  • Pro version
    4.6/5 Stars 133R

  • What can this app be used for?

It looks like an app for stalkers.

I haven't looked far enough into it yet but I'm hoping it can replace Instamapper for me which went out of service late last year. I use it to track my wife coming into the city to pick me up. So I know when to leave the office in time to meet her at the pick up zone and not hold up traffic etc…

      • I suppose with Android device manager now being operative, there is possibly less use for this? It may explain the promo.

      • you could always use prey-project and have it marked as stolen?

zargonb - you should check out Glympse.

So what's wrong with Google's My Tracks app? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.and…

    • +1

From what I can see, My Tracks only logs the tracks after it is completed and not during the track. The application the OP posted allows you to effectively throw the device into someones backpack and watch their movements throughout the day, as well as log them while it is happening. However, while the application can do this, it requires a 'donation' on top of the activation code provided by App of the Day. I could be wrong about this, but it's the jist I got while scanning through the descriptions.

The online services thing is really what makes this app. Because of the free alternatives I won't +1 this deal as it doesn't come with the online services even with the unlock code, much better off with any of the plethora of free tracking apps.

Airdroid will allow you to track your phone/tablet in real time over the net for free, in addition to the many other features the application has. It's a great app and it's one of the first I install on all my Android devices. I only use the USB cables to charge now, all syncing and moving of files to and from my PC/MAC are done over the air with Airdroid.

      • Don't see that as an alternative to this data logging navigation app. Where is the tracking of my location, especially without internet access & without phone active? I almost never use a desktop computer. Rather I want to record my hiking in Japan next few weeks, without internet access & phone in standby.

Can't see a need at moment
        for online services, so free.
This is a possible app for that use. There are others.

        • Which is why I wrote "track your phone/tablet in real time over the net for free", a free alternative to a paid service that this thread application is about. It was also a comparison as what this application can do that Tracks can't, I wasn't suggesting you personally use it.

What you are after is simple GPS logger that doesn't rely on data, just something that dumps raw GPS data to a log file. There are many free applications on the Play Store to do this (Tracks is one). I went a step further and suggested a free one that can track in real time over the net.

Oh and I think you are mixed up on the meaning of 'stand by'. Seeing as the phone cannot go into a low power state while actively doing tasks, then it's just really working with the screen off. This goes for all applications that are running while the phone screen is off. Stand by implies a deep sleep state.

        • But this is just a GPS Logger with extra features. Other (online) features require payment. We must be reading about different apps…

Ultra GPS Logger is a GPS Tracker which allows you to generate NMEA, KML and/or GPX logs with your GPS or GLONASS enabled Android device. It is able to keep GPS on during standby, which enables logging of a long period of time without the need of interaction with the device.

By standby I meant the lowest possible energy consuming state (Airplane mode, all unnecessary apps turned off, screen off, etc). The only state below that is off.

But just having GPS active will be consuming, no matter what the app.

Haven't used Tracks. Can the phone be in standby to store the track, or does it need to be turned on? My concern is the power consumption on a day walk. Thanks for info :-)

      • Thanks - negs are so informative as an answer. Of course by turned on I mean phone fully active - screen on, draining more power.

By the description, this app should conserve battery consumption & does not require data- saving more power & cost when travelling OS. Was hoping for advice from an experienced Tracks user.

  • went to download the ultra edition, pressed [buy] at $4.99, goes to payment screen, select promo code and entered [appoftheday]…didn't work!!!!

    • Yeah, that's not how promo codes work. Download the version that the OP linked to (the lite version) and then input that code to unlock the full version in the preferences/settings.

      • Only problem is, I can't find where to enter the code in the app. It must be there somewhere, but I've tried all the settings I can think of and nothing appears anywhere.

Could somebody who's had success entering the code please let us know where to enter it? Thanks!

Don't understand why there is any confusion.

Just click the link to deal above, install (it's the lite version), open.
It will pop up a screen telling you that license expires in…
Click BUY, then VOUCHER, enter "appoftheday". FREE!

        • I discovered the problem - the app works on my tablet, but not on my mobile. The screen is too small on the mobile, so the 'BUY' button can't fit on the screen! There's no way to scroll down to see the button, so it's not possible to purchase it or use the voucher code through the 'Lite' version.

The license is also device-specific, so activating it on one device doesn't activate it for your other devices, unlike many apps which link to your gmail account.

Bugger! That must be a small screen! Worked on my $25 Huawei Y201.

        • Thanks for your help, mentioning that there should be a BUY button on the licensing screen made me realise, it's probably there but hidden on my 480x320 pixel mobile. Most software adapts automatically and allows scrolling but this software does not. After your hint I tried it on my larger 7" tablet and it worked fine.

        • Sounds like good feedback for the developers.

  • +1

    Cool.
    Thanks OP.

  • So if I already have Cerberus on my phone is there any need for this?

    • How would Cerebus help track your travel offline & with phone on standby? Cerberus can tell you remotely the location of your phone. That is a different use to this data logging navigation app.

Unless you pay a donation, you can not remotely track the location of your phone, etc. My understanding is this app stores the track of your phone, to be viewed later.
      I'm using both.

  • I am looking for an app that can track another vehicle in realtime(Possibly without data usage and only relying on gps). We require this for our trips when I am following my friends car or vice versa. It always happens that I am driving my car with my family where my friends are on different cars and finding it hard where there location is right now or where they have stopped and waiting for us.

    • Check out Glympse - you can have several friends on a map in realtime. All these apps will require data though - how else would their location be sent to you in realtime? If they're not in sight, car-to-car phone wifi won't work either.

      • You are right. I did not think about the data transfer.
Installed Glympse. Will need to test this app with a friend in real time.
        Thanks

    • GPS is a one way system, you will need mobile data to transmit your location to others.
