HD Car Crash Camera with 16 & 32GB MicroSDcards - %50 off to $59 and $69 (with Free Shipping)

10

So I recommended to my manager to bundle these two together and maybe do a discount deal. And she ended up discounting a lot more than I thought she would.
It's a Navig[8]r Crash Cam HD, and we've bundled it with 16gb and 32gb Micro SD cards (as they have the optimal recording times without getting excessive).

The deal has been going until we run out of stock.

There's two bundles available
Here's the 16GB - http://www.cnettech.com.au/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=77614#.Uk…
Here's the 32GB - http://www.cnettech.com.au/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=77615#.Uk…

  • Got any video samples in day and night :) ?

    • Howdy, I do actually.
      Here's a nighttime sample, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7mwZt8ljV58

EDIT: Day time sample - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FEGAiiWom2E
Also boost the resolution on the vid as it's set to a low default setting i think

      • Quality is quite good, but not sure if I'll be able to read anyone's license plates.

If you're using it in the rear, without infrared you won't be able to read their plate because front plates are not lit.

        • +1

I've heard about 50/50 on the license plates aswell, as in some get clarity some don't. Though it still provides situational evidence, as most accidents aren't hit and run, and a license plate usually gets witnessed by someone. It also has ambient functions for when you're not in your car.

But as far as the focus on license plates goes, I hear that they occasionally have a lens focus issue, which is replaced by the company under its warranty.

        • Main issue is motion blur. Not sure if there is a solution for this. Unless it also takes high shutter speed snapshots at intervals.

Just on the weekend someone hit and run while my car was parked, which is why I need to be able to read license plates.

        • damn, it does suck when it is a hit and run though doesn't it. I don't think it takes snapshots but I am unsure. In video upload you would be able to view frame by frame though, finding any clear or partially clear shots in which to get their details/vehicle and driver description.
EDIT- i did try and find out for you on their Navig8r.com.au website (they have a technician chatroom section) but it was unattended for now.

Hmm, the samples you've provided look like they were taken with Papago P2X, not Navig8R CrashCam.
All the samples of Navig8R I've seen look crap & many ppl report many issues with them - out of focus, interfering with car's radio, many stop working all together.

        • Wolfy, has provided another sample below with more comments.
I have heard that it isn't exactly top of the line, but still concrete evidence in almost every accident scenario.

So there are better top of the line cameras and whatnot for more expensive. But as far as this goes $130 worth of camera and SD car for $59 is still a bargain.

I think you are missing the most important aspect of that video. I saw a Sizzler! Where is that video taken?
          I miss Sizzler :(
          Mmmm Cheezy Bread

        • Hahaha! I thought the same, there used to be one in WA then it shut down. There's a shopping centre sign partway into the video. You can do it, I believe in you!

  • Good price. I bought exact same one from BigW before but had to return it after 1 week. The unit lens was out of focus and couldn't be adjusted manually. I found it seemed to be an issue (not sure common or rare) for it after googling around. If you are lucky getting a good one, it is a nice deal. Another thing is HD video is sufficient to tell what happens but not clear enough to identify the number plate — not helpful if somebody hits you and runs away. The night video are bright enough.

    • Yeah I have noticed that, from what I've seen it can get a rego at close, but not far, yet still good for evidence back up in majority of situations, (I had a guy drive into me in a parking lot last year, not a hit and run, but turned into an insurance fraud issue when he tried to say it never happened. Kinda wish I had one of these to make that ordeal finish quicker as it still would be concrete evidence to what happened).
Though a good pro for it is that it has good night vision, and has an ambient night mode. Where it goes into sleep mode, but records for a time after it senses movement. So it is also good for spotting house break-ins, vandalism, and general out of driving security.
So I've heard good reviews about it's all round handiness, and it's nighttime functions.

  • Couple of question for the REP. if the unit is out of focus mentioned by somecat, assuming it is rtb for replacement who pays for the postage? Also what is the battery running time like when its not plug into the car? :)

    • Howdy, We offer RTB for dissatisfaction within 14 days, however we don't cover postage sadly (many of our items can get pretty huge). However, it also comes with a 1 year hardware warranty with the manufacturer which claims "You are entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced" if you aren't satisfied, and "compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss" (which may cover postage).
Perhaps Somecat could shed some light on how their situation turned out?
I don't know about the battery life, but it claims to be able to run on ambient for longer than overnight.

I walked in BigW and got a refund. Battery life isn't great, 30min to 1hr.

        • Well this solves it for me then. Thank you rep and somecat on the info :)

Seems to be a video (and comments) for this camera on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uInnc0g8HLI

  • How long can you record for before the battery runs out? I got hit and run while my car was parked.

Is it for front and rear, or just front?

Also, are you meant to hang it on your dash or windscreen? I heard it isn't legal to hang things to the windscreen, and my dash does not have a flat even surface to stick the suction cup to.

    • Recording is constant (in a loop) and I'm unsure of the battery time, though it talks itself up to be long, and it comes with a car charger as assurance.
one camera per pack pretty much, so one camera for either front or back. Though a wireless back camera sounds like a thing for more expensive packages.

It's technically illegal to adorn your windscreen (fluffy dice and whatnot) though these devices such as GPS and Cameras are never included as they are deemed reasonable.
EDIT- 'Lostn' recommends that any camera used for rear viewing should use infrared, as front license plates are not lit. Good advice

The cam gets its power from your cigarette lighter (normally). The built in battery is only intended for short time use… un mounted it can be a still camera (normally), or for short viewing of taken movies, etc. The inbuilt battery is not intended to run the camera when fitted in the car.

How long your movie is depends on the size of the memory card you use (get a CL10 speed at least) and the resolution you record at. The higher the resolution the larger the data file.

The cam records in segments, say 3 minute…?? When the card is full the camera will delete the oldest 3 min file and continue recording.

You can get an auto elec to hard wire the unit so it will run permanently on the cars battery with the ignition off and keys removed but this can cause other problems… ie: flat battery.

There is a ton of stuff on dash cams on the net. It is worth reading up BEFORE you buy one.

This would make it useless for rear windows then, since you can't get to the cigarette lighter from there, unless you run a long cord through your car from rear to front, which I would think presents a safety issue.

Are there any car cams that have batteries that last a long time or use low power?

I have seen people sticking their GPS onto the windshield and seen some stick them right in middle even obstructing part of their view. I've seen cops even looking at them and never seen any cops complaining on them. However one of my close friend got a fine even when he had his GPS sticked on a side bottom of the windscreen. I thought it all depends on the mood of the cop at that time.
I got a $300 fine and -3 points next to my house when I went to drop my daughter to school in the morning. It's right next to railway station and in 40 zone. I was the second car to turn at the signal. The cop came behind and claimed that I had not finished my turn by the time light became red even though I went out when it was green or amber. I see this happen so many time every day and never seen the cop cars following them handing fines to them. After couple of years I still want to go and get this rule clarified from Police station. It would have been easier if I had a camera to prove that I went out in green and there was no other way to avoid the light getting red before I complete my turn and I don't even see the light getting red when I go pass it.
To this date I still regret on that fine no idea why he decided to fine. I was driving a corolla, not an illegally modified car and was presenting well as I was on my way to work.

    Dash Cam Talk is a great repository of information on dash cams;

    http://dashcamtalk.com/mini-0801/

That link is to one of the current ones which is highly regarded. There is also a forum.

  • The image quality is ok, but not good enough to read number plate. Battery lasts for 15 to 30mins. Wouldn't recommend this to anyone. Poor quality made. The unit stopped working after 8 months, got a replacement unit with warranty.

  • can I pickup from Preston Store?

    • This one is through our braybrook store only. But we do instant postage so it would be with you the day after you order.
