Absolutely stay away from this seller. I had made a terrible mistake buying an Android stick from them a few months ago and the item never arrived. Their customer service is a joke. Took them like a week to response to your request. First they kept telling me that item was sent so I shouldnt be worry and just keep waiting. Then they failed to use the tracking# (which I believe not a genuine one) to track the item. I contacted AusPost numerous times and AusPost constantly insisted that the number they gave me made absolutely no sense to them. I ended up having to lodge a dispute with Paypal. They then contacted me by email asking me to withdraw the claim because it is damaging their "reputation" and offered a full refund after I withdraw the claim. Luckily I did a google search and found that a number of buyers failed to this trick, withdrew their claim then never get their refund so I proceed with with the Paypal claim anywayz and got my money back.

The price Geekbuying offers is pretty good but unless you want all the trouble , stay away from them.

I was just about to buy this, thanks for the warning.

Thanks for the warning… This seller should be banned from Ozbargain…

yes , why are they still posting on here.

          My heart is bleeding…

that's an interesting response form the rep! Almost worth me to bring out one of my rare neg votes!

    • I totally agree with andrew81. So far I have ordered 3 times and had an issue every single time which their customer support was useless with. They will promise everything but deliver nothing that is if they respond at all, the only way to get anything done is to call them and if your lucky something may happen. If you do buy from these clowns only pay by paypal and raise a claim if there are any issues.
Issue 1 Ordered Tronsmart T-428 it arrived with no flash slot or button to reflash. sent email was told flash card is extra. Took photo and sent. Went on for weeks as it took on average 4 days to respond. In the end paypal refunded the amount and half of shipping cost for a defective product.
Issue 2 Item never arrived tracked to country but missing after that. Sent email notifying them of issue and that I took their insurance, that was 3 weeks ago not 1 response.
Issue 3 Bought MK808B tried to go to flash mode to install new rom, wouldn't go in so emailed them their response "Why do you want to flash". Have since reordered from another supplier and item arrived and went into flash mode first time!
So their prices might be good but not if you have any issue whatsoever.
They really should be banned from ozbargain!

Hello Fateddy, could you please let me know the order numbers of your three purchases? BTW, email reply sometimes takes a little longer, however for Aussies, I do suggest you use our live chat to get support.

        • Do you have a direct email?

        • Thank you have emailed you.

        • Emailed you 3 days ago yet to hear anything. What a surprise!

Hi Andrew, really sorry to hear your experience. Occasionally, things are not going very well, but we are not trouble-maker. We take every customer very seriously and carefully. You can trust us. Could you please do us a favor? I'd like to know your order number so that we can use it to find out the whole interaction with you. I do think that we can learn a lot from your case. Thank you, Andrew.

I have pm you my order#. Let me tell you I was offered to send my order# for "further investigation" by one of your colleagues on the Whirlpool forum and he never got back to me.

Happy to provide more details if that helps to improve your services.

        • -1

Thank you. Andrew. I will go check that.

        • Hi Andrew81 did you hear from them?
          I haven't after 2 days.

        • nope not a word from them mate. Its exactly 1 week since I pm the OP. I am not surprise btw

    • I bought MINIX G4 from this seller and delivered within a week.

Title misleading too. This is a "Media Player", not a "TV Box".

I would expect a "TV Box" to have a TV tuner. This does not. Everyone else calls such devices media players.

And yes, for the doubters, DVB-T set-top boxes that run Android do exist, although they are pretty rare.

      • So is a VCR

        • so is a phone with MHL

        • so is an xbox or ps3

        • so is the TV cabinet

        So is your mum

  • I've dealt with geekbuying before, items arrived fast and tracking number they provided was fine.

    • +1

yeah mine came with tracking (only trackable after 2 weeks - overseas, Australia post only trackable - when arrived at buyer's home). time about average, around 3 weeks.

so far i believed they are the cheapest - so the money u save likely go into express? just a thought

I usually don't get involved into arguments etc but I had bad experience from them. Their customer service is horrible with broken English and no such prompt action. It's hit and miss purchase. If you are lucky it's cool if not then even the Gods can't save you

      • Hi Justanick, please tell me your order number, I'd like to know how GeekBuying let you feel this way. According to my knowledge, people who are buying from us are guaranteed, we do everything we can to take care of every customer's order. We really don't let customers down, even only one.

    • Yeah, I have only ever bought one thing from them (link enclosed) and had no problems but it does indeed sound like they are hit & miss and I was fortunate not to have any problems.

  • I'm guessing the 'Prometheus' name is inspired by this particular ship:

Wasn't Prometheus sentenced to eternal torment by Zeus?

Perhaps this is also the fate of purchasers of this product ???

  • Ordered a mobile phone a few months ago, paid for courier and received in a few days

my prior purchase from this place was a - 10.. beware.

    • What did you buy?

  • Have ordered stuff from them before, no problems whatsoever.
The item posted here is a decent spec'd as well, don't understand why it's being negged so much!

  • +1

Does anyone know which of these Android TV boxes is" the one", as in the one", you want? There are SO MANY out there and I don't know which are good/ crap/ indifferent.
I would definitely like one but which one to trust?

Go for Minix X7, expensive but solid performance. Watch review http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBR3ZrurMKI&list=UUxQhwuAIoiu…

      • +2

        Cheers. Sounds good.
Sure wish Sony Pana Samsung WD or any decent manufacturer would have a crack at these.
The idea is excellent, just the flaky manufacturers putting me off.
That Minix one you linked does look good though. I see they sell it on Amazon but the reviews are a bit av.

    • AMLogic has been "famous" of being stable. but slower than others - Rockchip.

I bought Tronsmart brand than other brand so far as the company seems to provide update to the stick than most don't or relying external parties….

  • looks like half of a discman

    • LOL…. that's true, it does.

  • +1

Not sure it's a good idea for me to 'download and flash myself'. Especially if I'm in a public place…

nah - you'll be right - give us a go and say hi to Tiny in the lock-up

Disclaimer: Possible bias against Android based media players due to a bad experience.

I had the Astone A108 which is an Android media player and to be honest the experience was well below average. The video and audio decoding performance is terrible and unless they've a custom interface that is more remote friendly and not mouse-centric, the UI can be extremely frustrating.

I'm not saying that this unit is going to be a spectacular failure like my A108 was but I'd be hesitant to get anything that isn't based on a Linux OS. The performance isn't just superior but everything just works without hassle.

I kept the A108 for over 3 months hoping for updates to fix the performance but nothing was forthcoming. Fortunately Austin accepted it as part of a direct swap for another unit.

I'm now rocking a MP310-DT as well as my original (Gen1) WDTV which are both Linux based media players and can honestly say I cannot recommend any Android based media players.

    • Yep I hear you.
I have a WD SMP too but honestly I think its pretty average. It can decoded every thing but its a pain to navigate. Some menu items take up to two minutes to load and a slow as hell. iView, Youtube etc
I want to use Hulu , Netflix (with a DNS modifer) and a few other Android streaming apps AND have the beauty of easy and familiar net browsing. Android could do it if I could find a trustworthy unit.
At the moment I am looking at the Ouya console, $99 looks quite promising.

    • i got the cx 919 recommended by ozbzrgainer. its fantastic. compare to my fren's astone and wd media player.
      using phone as remote

    • I ended up buying the GBox Midnight MX2 from Amazon for $150. Run XBMC extremely well. Another advantage is Netflix works out of the box with Hola Plus.
