I remember how ING used to be the market leader in high interest rate savings accounts. Not anymore!

I’m not entirely sure I understand how this offer works. Is it open to everyone or just ING customers? Unfortunately I couldn’t find any T&Cs on the website that would probably answer my question.

pizzapizza on 22/04/2009 - 12:10 ¶

i reckon it’d be for everyone - it would be too hard to check if everyone’s an ING customer!

Hmmm, I can’t find any info in my account about how much I had to save to receive the bonus interest… any ideas?

mick01 on 01/09/2009 - 11:02 ¶

Ok, so it’s now 1 Sept and when I check my account I can’t see the $100 bonus interest I was meant to get from savings week. Only bonus I can see is the extra 1% interest for deposits since 3 August. Anyone else? Might have to give them a call.

bobsi18 on 03/09/2009 - 04:10 ¶

yes, wondering this myself, also have no extra interest (although I can’t remember how much it was supposed to be) other than the 1% extra.

I called them up. Apparently it won’t get credited to accounts until later in the month (mid September at the latest they told me). I can’t recall exactly how the bonus amount is calculated either — I probably should have asked while I had them on the phone. I think it was something like- for every $1000 deposit you get a bonus amount of $1. And capped at $100. From memory, but I could be wrong.

thanks for making that call. does it mean I can now move my moolah across to Ubank as they offer better rates, but still get the bonus interest(as part of savings week)?

mick01 on 05/09/2009 - 15:41 ¶

I’d say so. Ubank hey? Hmmm… half a percent higher. Might have to do the same.

mick01,

I recall that there is no email receipt of the exact promotion that I signed up for so there is no way to verify that the interest credited to us eventually is correct (I saved a screen shot of the “registration suiccessful” page, which is my only “receipt”). But like what you have remembered, I think I signed up for that as well but I chose the most difficult one ie. I said I will be able to deposit more than $20000 (I am not totally sure of this figure) by 31 Aug. And I did. If I did not remember wrongly, there is an additional lump sum bonus interest of $100 if you can deposit $20000 more (ie. choosing the most difficult-to-achieve category). Did you remember or sign up for something like that as well, with the different categories of increasing difficulty levels? What else can you recall?

I think it sucks that they made it such that different customers have different promotions opened to them (at least that was what they told me, which I think is ultimately dependent on how much you have invested with ING). And it sucks more than there is no email receipt and a way to find out what exactly you signed up for (and the way to calculate the bonus interest) after signing up. The deal seems a little shady at this point in time especially when the bonus interest has not been credited.

The thing I am most afraid of is that if they credit me with too little bonus interest, how can I prove that they made a mistake when there is no paper trail? I do trust though that this will not happen with such a well-established bank like ING.

I checked my account today and was happy to see the bonus interest has been credited. Amount was more than I was expecting too :-)

I’ve still haven’t got it. Called up ING just now and was told that the maximum bonus is just $50. Hmm… that seems weird as I distinctly remember that it was more than that. Did you get $100 for depositing $20000? or is it more? Also, I’m told, today is the last day they were crediting the bonus interest.

Hope I get it soon.

cheapbloke on 25/09/2009 - 13:44 ¶

nope. didn’t get it. The guy on the other line told me that I wasn’t on the list. I can’t remember if I clicked on the register button, but I did remember selecting the amount to deposit by 31 Aug. As I don’t have any emails or screenshots to prove it, there’s nothing I can do about it. Any one else having the same experience as I did?

nauhcmik on 10/10/2009 - 08:04 ¶

Got my bonus interest and it was calculated correctly, ie. $1 bonus for every increase in deposit by $1000 + lump-sum of $100 bonus if the final amount in the account increases by more than $20000.

At least I got a screen shot of the page after the successful registration as I always like to play it safe (but I did not have to use it). They did tell me though that there is no email receipt and there is no way of proving anything if ING defaults on their commitment. But I made sure my registration was in the system before the offer expired months ago by confirming with a phone operator. I guess my untrusting nature does pay off once in a while.

Hope this helps!
