Noticed this when I resigned my plan today

Vodafone is doing double data on some of their plans

24 month plans:
$60 plan get 3gb per month (was 1.5gb)
$65 red plan get 3gb (was 1.5gb)
$80 plan get 5gb was (was 2.5gb)
$100 plan get 10gb (was 5gb)

It's every month for 24 months in month 25 data reverts back to usual amount. Also available on 12 month plans and data will revert in month 13.

Edit: it's also available on their month to month sim only plans ($45 and above) for up to 12 months. Month 13 data switches back.

They also doing double data on their $30 prepaid cap which gives 1gb per month.

Voda charges in per kb so it's pretty good value when compared with other deals around and their network has gotten pretty fast so I'm happy I scored double data

Oh and FYI they have 4g on prepaid as of yesterday :)

New or resigning customers.
Not available to customers who plan change or who are already under contract.

Bummer I just signed a new contract with them recently, wish I waited for this.

    • -4

You will wish you never signed that contract, real soon.

      • +12

I disagree. Their quite good these days.

        • -1

In Sydney, and have multiple contracts with different providers Vodafone still the most unreliable..

        • +7

          They're.

        • +2

It's because everyone left them so no more congestion. If you say they're good the saga will recycle. :P

I get much better reception and speed at home, work and in between than Optus. Vodafone is pretty good nowadays, hopefully it stays the same if people like you still think it's bad.

My sister and brother in law have optus and Telstra, I have Vodafone and have service when they don't - I have never had a problem in the 2 years I have been with them so far. Sydney.

      • I'm with Crazy John, the MVNO of Vodafone, the "second-class" network of Vodafone for the last 2 years until now.
No hassle with the network performance so far. I'm living within an hour of Sydney CBD if location matters.

you might be about to re-sign it ONLY if its on a higher plan eg. from a current 40 plan to the 60 plan

      its worth asking

  • +1

that's so good, more data that you can't use

    • +2

Speak for yourself. Have u even bothered using the 4G network and watch ur data run out in days? it happens. cuz voda does have a really good 4G network.

      • Damn good speeds. I wish I could get those upload speeds on my Telstra cable internet connection, let alone on a mobile connection.

Am I the only one that may be thinking in the near future, telco's will be offering significantly higher data amounts?

    • +3

or follow other countries and provide unlimited data

      • Whoa, whoa slow down son. We should walk before we sprint.

    • +3

Not in the near future. Data inclusions have, if anything, decreased from a few years back (Vodafone, Optus and Telstra have all cut their data inclusions, Aldi halved theirs and high data providers like Woolies mobile are closing) and prices have generally increased (across the board, from super budget like Vaya which used to be $9 and are now $17, to Telstra whose cheapest offering is now $60(!) up from $29).

The demand for fast, reliable data which has emerged, as well as regulations which severly restrict bill shock (something which was a major revenue driver for telcos in the past (a customer who was on a plan and never went over their cap was only profitable for a month or two of their 2-year contract) is going to result in prices continuing to go up, because mobile infrastructure is expensive as hell.

It's lucky, if anything, that the vast majority of our population is concentrated in a few population centres, and that our market is comparatively competitive so we shouldn't reach the sort of pricing seen in the US of $100 a month being baseline pricing for reasonable service.

    • I use to be with Virgin Mobile. They halved their data on plans.

Happy with Voda 4G so far..

Wow what a great offer… Vodafone use to give me 3Gb on my $65 plan.. then they cut it to 1.5Gb so that we can have this unmissible offer of 3Gb again… Vodafone reminds me of Coles and Wollies… double the price of everything and then give us half price specials….

They should offer this to current customers to reward loyalty. Personally, I've pretty happy with Vodafone.

  • Which one is a better deal? iphone 5 vs iphone 5s. It looks like iphone 5s got better deal @69$/month with 3GB allowance?

    • You said better deal and then mentioned Apple in the same sentence? :p

    • Tried to get an IP5 this morning when I resigned, they said warehouse completely sold out.. so got a 5S, store I went to had them in stock so it was win win

  • -2

    Yes, but, Vodafone.

  • I would rather buy a unlocked phone and go with TPG $15/mth plan (no contract). TPG uses Optus network which is much more reliable than Vodafone according to my personal experience, although it is HSPA+ but not 4G. HSPA+ is pretty fast sufficient for me. It is cheaper and you won't stIck yourself in any contract.

    • My experience with TPG is the opposite.. lucky to get 1mbs and half the time my phone was on edge only.
Vodafone I get minimum 4 bars and the 4G is blistering speed.

Optus can't be that reliable anymore according to Gizmodo they paying Vodafone to use their metro towers to prop up their network. Apparently they headed for a massive crash in network soon. They kicking off all the MVNO's (Woolworths etc) to try and relieve the tension on their network.

Vodafone gets Optus' regional coverage as a bonus so its win win for Voda

      justsaying

      • I believe Optus and Vodafone share physical towers but have their own equipment on the tower in metro areas, because it is so difficult to get new towers approved (people are not so keen on mobile phone towers in their backyard).

      • I have not been with Vodafone since 2011 because the reception was so awful that I could not even make phone calls. I missed a few telephone interviews due to the bad reception. So I made my movement to quit my plan.

I have to go to country from time to time for my work. There is no Vodafone reception at all in those places and only telstra and optus work.

I am very glad to hear Vodafone is very good now so people can have cheaper ways to enjoy 4G network. I am using Nexus 4 so I cannot use 4G anyway. Maybe I will try Vodafone when I upgrade my mobile phone.

        • yes, time to buy a nexus 5.

  • I just moved from Virgin Mobile to Telstra 4G. Paying out the arse for it, but Optus network is the new Vodafone and I couldnt risk the actual Vodafone network. But I have heard people say its been better. Would have to be when literally millions of people have stopped using it.

Telstra is really the only option unless you want to pay 2/3rds of the cost for 2/3rds of a network.

  • anyone have luck changing their existing plan with the extra data?

    • The website states that it is not available to anyone already on a plan with vodafone, unless you sign a new 12/24 month contract or if you are a new customer. My other half rang to try and get her plan changed from $60 to $65 and they said they can not give the double data.. the lady told her the call centre have a "memo" stating it is not to be given unless a new contract is signed.. bit sad but i can understand their reasons.

      • Just port out to a $2 Telstra prepaid and port back in.

Also sign up through cash back site like start here will give you %100 cash back.

        • Wont work… The fine print says it excludes anyone who number spins… As in ports out and ports back in within 28 days.. so yeah
