  • It might be a good price, but f3.8-5.6 (ie: a minimum aperture that changes with zoom level) is a horrible horrible thing to have to wrangle when trying to take a photo. fixed-aperture lenses are more expensive for very good reason!

this lens obviously made for different purposes and market segment than expensive fixed aperture lens :)
AFAIK this is the only long zoom lens available for Nikon 1 system at this moment, unless you want to spend around $200 to buy FT-1 adapter…

  • How does the white one look on a black camera I wonder..

Badass. Much better than black lens on white camera.

  • I spent 200 bucks on an FT-1 adaptor and can throw any lens on it now. Of course it looks like quasimodo, but I can put a kit 55-200 on it and cover an effective 540mm full frame equivalent, with better aperture than this 30-110.

    • previously I'm thinking to get the FT-1 too.. but my main reason to buy Nikon 1 system is to keep the weight & bulkiness down..
but if someone happy to carry all of them, they got the best of both world :)

      • The reason why I didn't get the 30-110
        - Most situations where I require a compact camera, 10-30 is the most usable range
        - Portability is so important I won't be taking a second lens or wanting to swap lenses during the event.

If there was a situation where I would be using the 30-110
        - I would be shooting alone
        - I have ample space to 'foot zoom' or no need to capture anything wide at all.
As such, in the above situations, since I am alone I can afford to carry bigger lenses, desire less compromise in terms of lens capability etc, thus the FT-1 suits me, if I am taking the v1 instead of the dslr.

  • Just bought a J1 in KL with a pancake lens so this will make the perfect addition!

As a new user to the Nikon 1 range, does anyone have any further lens or purchase recomendations beyond the 10mm pancake and 30-110mm i just bought?

    • The current 'it' lens is the new 18.5mm 1.8. It's the 50mm equivalent - the original pancake did not have such a wide aperture I believe.
