Wonder who the biller for this will be. It's part of the Event group, but not sure whether this would qualify one for the Amex cashback?

It does qualify, received an email confirming i earned a $10 statement credit as soon as payment was processed

T&C for AMEX offer: Cardmembers must spend $30 or more on their saved Card at Event Cinemas, in-store or online at eventcinemas.com.au, in one or more transactions, between 08/11/13 and 30/11/13 to receive a $10 statement credit

      • I haven't received a statement credit yet, and it's been ~4 days. Offer was certainly saved to my card, so not sure why it hasn't come through. Maybe I just need to be more patient…

        • When did you buy Jad? I did same thing on 15th nov at night and haven't received an email or the $10.
Wondering whether they decided to remove the Amex deal on this…

        • I got the statement credit email but haven't received the credit yet and it's been six days. I noticed that in my Amex transactions listing when I first paid for the gift cards it said AHL (owner of Event cinemas) but now the description says Experience This. Perhaps they didn't not to give the statement credits?

        • My transaction lists 'EXPERIENCETHIS' as the description on 16th Nov. Can someone who did get the credit verify the description name in their transaction list?

        • Steady on fellas. If past cashback offers have been anything to go by, it could take anything up to 8-10 weeks. Fast, Amex isn't.

        • Agreed, that is mentioned in terms and conditions. But the email confirming receipt of the offer is usually fast, and I haven't received one so I'm not holding out too much hope.

        • I never got an email but I did get the credit back - took about a week

    • it's sold by the great union

    • +3

Yes this qualify for the deal, after place the order, I receive this email immediately from American express

"Congratulations! You have earned a Statement Credit"

which is the $10 credit for $30 offer. check your email.

      • Thanks for taking the plunge. Confirmed on my account too.

      • you can only use this deal once, right?

        • you can purchase as many gift cards as you want.

        • +3

alwayseric is referring to the Amex offer, which states

Participation is limited to the first 6,000 Cards to have the Offer saved, and the offer is limited to one statement credit per saved Card.

        • That's why you should have supplement card for your wife/partner? If she won't spend it too much

        • thank you.

        • +1

For some reason the offers were not shown under the supplement card login. The main card was okay though.

      • I have AMEX through bank. Am i eligible for this $10 credit back? how and what is the procedure?

      • in the past we used to receive an email for the offer with the registered card if registered publicly on their website with our details?

did you get any emails about the saved offer to your card that it was successfully registered? as i have no idea how do we know whether the car we saved with the offer are one of the 6,000 cards? it seems like they might send the offer to 10,000 cards as the number of cards for each offer is slightly different in number?

  • +2

These are some of the best deals for me. I plan to buy $300 worth this time.

    • +1

Same. I only bought $200 worth last year, and it didn't last me the full year.

  • +1

cool. I ll use the visa gift cards to buy it.

    • and use your ing paywave as well?

jesus ozbargain just get it for free

  • great deal, use the prepaid visa card bought from Coles

    • I am not sure if you can use the prepaid visa gift card immediately after you purchased it, but regarding Balance Enquiries it says to "Please do not attempt to do this within 24 hours of purchase as it may make the card invalid." So just beware.

  • +1

can't use for village, no good for melbourne.

  • -3

Can these be used to purchase the Telstra tickets?

    • +3

Read the very first line of my post!

      • +1

        My bad, thanks :)

  • Awesome bargain!

  • What happens if you have only $4 left on one card? Can you use the next one to cover the rest of the ticket? (Assuming you are getting more than one gift card)

    • +2

Yes, you can pay with multiple gift cards.

  • Pay by credit card, it worked.

  • No responsibility will be taken by experiencethis or the GU Organisation for the delivery of gift cards despatched by standard post. Gift cards will not be replaced or refunded.

Bad luck if you don't receive your card by post. Money down the drain. Is there an option for registered post?

    • I would do a credit card chargeback with no remorse.

    • Last time (6 months ago)they had the same deal, I got the gift card with free regular post in 3 days.

      • Believe me gift cards don't always arrive as they are supposed to. Remember the WD Christmas promotion? Still waiting for 1 of my Caltex fuel cards to arrive.

  • Great deal - thanks OP

  • +1

just realize there is only 1 Event Cinema in VIC

  • Paid via Amex and then logged onto Amex only to see that I had save the offer to card first. So will I still get $10 off?

    • +1

I am afraid you will not.

      • Why? I still purchased within my offer period. I paid $30. I cant see anywhere it says, purchased only after saving the card allowed.

        • It's in the terms. Read it.

  • Finally about creaking time was waiting for woollies to do 20% promo, but this is way better. Oh and there's a $6 postage fee?

    • Free postage for standard post.

  • Thanks, that's good to know, now just calculating if spend $300 gets you $400. I watch least 2-3 movies a week until almost nothing good is left, last time when purchased 20x familily and friends $7.50 tickets lasted me less than a month. A $30 for $40 is only enought for 2 Telstra 3d vmax which is $34without 3d glasses, I never buy the glasses some of the employees give em for free, I try to re use the old ones but he's hard to clean.

  • Note Melbournites: " Melbourne Cinemas ceased trading as of Wednesday October 2, 2013 and is now permanently closed." From their website. Maybe update this ceejay?

    • I thought people from Melbourne were called Melbournians, so I googled and both are acceptable. That's my 'learn something new everyday' for today.

  • aussie post is selling events giftcards 2 x $75 for $120 too

    • good deal as well , but this one just need to purchase $40 or more

  • Thanks OP, I did not know you can use these to buy those discounted/ Telstra tickets.

  • You are meant to be able to unless they did not fix that glitch, you still can not use paypal for payment for telstra tickers for some reason.

  • You are meant to be able to unless they did not fix that glitch, you still can not use paypal for payment for telstra tickers for some reason.

  • Can you get the Telstra tickets even with a 2$ prepaid card with them? If so, how? Thanks!

    • yes you can. just go to their website and my account….

  • +1

how to get telstra account if don't have a service with telstra?
other way to get $10 ticket with purchase for this card?

    • +1

buy a $2 telstra sim & activate account.

    • buy a $2 Telstra sim card and register here for free:
      https://id.telstra.com.au/register

    • I actually have no Telstra services. I had a home phone long ago and the account still works

  • I used this just then. I can confirm the experiencethis site is back up now. I previously tried about an hour ago and the site was cactus and not letting me sign up.

Also paid via Amex and got the credit statement email straight after (I was sure to activate the promo on my card before buying). As always - thx!

  • Does anyone know when the Telstra $10 movie tickets deal expires? I can't seem to find it anywhere on their website.

  • Just google Telstra Thanks movies and it will come up :) don't think there is an 'expiry', just depends on how long th contract between Event and Telstra was signed for

  • There is no expires date, only says offer expires in T&C when telstra decides to, usually these last for least 2-3 years, well that was optus when they joined with event.

  • Just in time for The Day of the Doctor in 3d 8)

  • Thanks. 20x purchased. Saved $200 on movies. :)

  • If I purchase 2x gift cards will they give me 2x gift cards with $40 of value each or will they give me 1x gift card with $80 value?

Will there be an issue if I don't purchase the express postage ($6) as they state that they won't pay for lost/stolen gift cards. Or will a credit chargeback resolve that dilemma?

    Thanks

    • Express Postage is not registered. It's just faster than standard post, it's practically the same in every other way.

      • They do have scanned barcodes, and as of the launch of the updated services they promised to be more diligent in scanning them - which goes some of the way towards being close to registered post in terms of tracking, but I can't vouch for how reliable this info is…

    • If it's the same as last year, they'll give you two separate gift cards.

  • I've been waiting for this for a while. I just bought more gift cards than I could admit.

  • -1

Haven't paid mine yet, but there should be a PayPal option for all eventcinemas purchases.

  • +1

Thanks OP. 50% off with AMEX offer. nice.

    • Can only use once per card, right?

      • I think so, once per card.

    • which AMEX offer is this?

        • Thanks. Went in to my account > Offers & Places tab. Nothing there and I have Amex issued card (Platinum Edge). Strange but oh. well.

        • i have two amex issued cards.. one have and the other doesn't.. it seems targeted..

        • Might be one per cardholder rather than per card.

  • Planning to buy $120

  • Dang. I didn't get an email from Amex. The offer said "Simply register your American Express® Card between 1-30 November and use it at participating small businesses between 23-30 November.", so it shouldn't be working yet??

Dang I should have waited till 23rd, but you guys said it is already working for you!!??

Dunno whether I wasn't one of 1st 100,000 cards to register (but they didn't bother telling me) or too quick?? :(

    • Think you've got your AMEX offers mixed up… Event is not part of the 'Shop Small' promotion. You needed to register for this one: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/122643

      • Thanks Jad. I just registered via the link you provided, and it said "You have successfully registered your American Express® Card. Remember to support Shop Small between 23 and 30 November 2013 you'll get a $10 statement credit when you spend $20 or more at participating shops, cafes, restaurants, and other small businesses, up to five times."

Why is it saying from 23rd Nov??

I'm going to go and buy another couple of event gift cards. Hope I don't have to repeat again after 23rd??

        • You are still looking at the wrong AMEX offer. From the link, log into your account, go to 'My Account' then down the bottom will be a 'offers and places' tab where you can save the Event Cinemas offer to your card (if it is available to you, AMEX issued cards only apparently).

        • ah. I've never seen that before. thanks for that. I'll try again :)

  • received my card today :)

  • Received my cards on Friday, used them at Telstra Rewards to buy tickets to Gravity 3D @ effectively $9.75 a ticket. And $7.5 for a large Popcorn+Drink combo. Sweet! Woohoo!!

  • I order them express. They took a while to come - I didn't get to use them for midnight screening of catching fire.

Anyway, turns out the session didn't start and we received a refund and complementary vmax tickets.

  • Darnit, offer expires tommorow and all I have is my Telstra + Cinebuzz.
Too late to buy for Coles Card or recieve AMEX Card.
Any other options for a full power-up?

  • +1 great deal bought one for me and a mate, $20 saved there!

  • keep getting this error, is anyone having the same problem?

    • It's working now.

      Hurry only 1 hour left.

      • the error is when you proceed to confirm payment

        • Yeah, I got that error, so tried again, got the error again. Payment has been taken from PayPal/Bank twice, no receipt or trans in my order history. No idea if I'm getting anything, after paying twice.

        • call them and they will fix it manually

I had total of 7 transactions, they fixed for me .. now only 2

They are aware of the error

        • I was waiting a week to see if anything arrived, will give em a bell tomorrow thanks.

  • Have you all received your order? I didn't receive mine as yet. It's actual plastic gift card, isn't it.
