"I got you kids a NEW Playstation for Christmas!!"
"OMFG YOU'RE THE BEST DAD EVER!!! … Wait, this is a PS3. You said new… :("

      • +18

Hey I said "a new" not "the new" Playstation.

        /dadjoke

        • amazing! Had a great laugh and now it brightens my day in Melbourne! (cloudy and rainy in Melb today……….)

      • +5

Real ozbargainers would do the joke with a PS2 that can be had for $50

        • Where can I find a brand new PS2 for $50?

      • I'll be your son if you buy me a PS3

  • -7

Nahh. I will wait for PS4.

  • Any idea if is this is a permanent price, or does it end soon?

    • +1

It'll end soon, but coming up to Xmas prices should either stay similar or keep coming down.

  • I wait for it to drop at $150 :-)

  • +ing for the code. I bought an iPad Mini for $458. While it might only be $1 cheaper than Target, at least I don't have to go hunting for stock. Plus I used Starthere, so I should get 3.6% cash back.

    • Damn. Now there's a 20off250 coupon.

Don't forget 12gb will be good for only a couple of big games installed.. Budget abt $49 for a hard disk from a computer store and $10 for the hdd mounting bracket on eBay etc, or consider holding out for the offers on the 500gb ps3 when the ps4 comes out.

    • Yeah, hunt around for 160GB one. I bought it for $148 at Big W Carindale and Target has started to sell them for the same price.

  • I need a new media player and wouldn't mind a bluray player, does the PS3 play most media?

    • Not mkv, as far as I know

      • Install Universal Media Server on your PC.
Ethernet cable from PC/router to the PS3.
        Play anything.
Has to be cabled… wireless is too slow/choppy for mkv.

        • -1

or you could just like, connect your pc to the tv…

        • -1

but my LG 47LM7600 TV already has DLNA! :) and so does my Parents 5 year old Samsung 55" LCD TV lol plays anything after you install a dlna server app on the PC with the files on it.

        • poor kid doesn't even know why he got negged lol.

  • Great console at a great price, add Playstation Plus and you're ready to rock and roll!

  • +1

how could this be a deal? i mean it casnt even play splinter cell black list due to insufficient HDD space .. why would ppl buy this 12gb ???

    • +1

I think because the hard drive caddy is cheap and some people (such as me) have plenty of 2.5" hard drives lying around, making it very easy and cheap to upgrade the storage capacity.

      • You don't even need the caddy, I just use a piece of cardboard to prop up the HDD.

        • +1

Being cheap is the Ozbargain way, but I think mayhaps there is a element of quality missing from your design ;)

        • +6

What If I said, I used the cardboard from my Hugo Boss shoe box? :)

        • Until it catches on fire…

        • That's why I used sticky tape in mine yesterday!

  • I have an Xbox. I usually play year old games in that. I have been contemplating on getting a ps3 just to play uncharted, heavy rain and last of us.what do you reckon guys? You think I should bite this one?

    • I have the Xbox 360 also, and I usually don't even play with it at all, but I'm still contemplating on getting a PS3! I don't even know any exclusive games I'd want to play, except perhaps for GT5. I'm pretty close to actually ordering this one.

      • +1

GT5 is too close a call for the 12gb, the base install is about 9gb and the patches together are 4gb.

        • only get just over 9GB of usable storage from it…. but cheap HDD added is easy! only need to slide off a plastic cover!

The 12GB is built in you don't even take anything out!

    • If you just want to play Uncharted, Heavy Rain and Last of US, this is perfect. Heavy Rain has about 4.5gb install and Uncharted/Last of US stream off the disc so they have very minimal install, about maybe 200mb each.

    • Worth it just for 'The last of us', the others are a bonus!

    • Yep - also has vid zone (free music video streaming channels), gran tourismo if ur into that, no no kuni, metal gear solid 4, Valkyria chronicles, all which are going to get cheaper and cheaper. Nothing to get excited abt on ps4 just yet - enjoy the awesome ps3 library until some decent games come out on the next gen. Just remember 12gb won't be enough for more than a cpl games to be installed at a time

  • My PS3 is has custom firmware, so I can't play online games. If the PS3 comes down even more I may consider it and have 1 just for online. Hopefully I'll still be able to get the games I bought downloaded to a new one.

  • Pulled the trigger and bought, don't know WTF for but…

    • did the same when i bought the $74 Wii

    • You won't regret it, the 3 Uncharted games alone are worth it.

  • +1

I have to resist this deal.
Next gen has already launched, and Christmas is month later.
Clearance sales must be around the corner.

    • Clearance for next gen? Jeez we move on so fast.

  • Does anyone know which firmware is it?

    And how to jailbreak this

Looking for ps3 quite a while

    • I believe you need to ODE mod it.

  • +2

Just picked one up at Big W Livingston (WA). They have plenty of stock in store @ $178. Extra controller @ $54. But this ps3 just looks cheap, feels cheap and when you open and close the blu ray drive it just sounded cheap. But it works, although playing gta 5 the fan kicks in more often than I would like it to, but its summer.

  • I managed to buy the 160G Playstation 3 for $148 at Carindale Big W last week. This is why I like the new consoles. The older ones are way cheaper now.
