          • you have appalling grammer
  • I've got a review of it here in front of me in an APC magazine, they rate it as pretty darn good. They say $600 for the 16GB version but that's probably RRP, this 64GB one for $423 certainly sounds a lot better.

I bought one, and I like it.

The only thing I'd choose to improve is the weight - it's quite heavy with the keyboard attached. But then you can't have everything - it would probably need a smaller battery to reduce the weight, and then I'd rather keep the battery life than the lightness !

It's also worth pointing out that HP have released a few updates recently - the complaints about the screen are a none-issue now.

This or ASUS Transformer Book T100?

    • Ask yourself Android or Windows 8.

      • +8

For a "laptop/tablet for work on the road", I probably prefer Windows 8 — or at least a proper multiple-window system that allows me to see a web browser, a text editor and a SSH terminal at the same time (or quickly switch between them). Otherwise Slatebook x2 with Full HD screen and extra battery would be better. Not to mention cheaper as well.

        • -1

If it is Windows 8 instead I will buy one.

        • I haven't seen the T100 in person, but with Surface RT I personally couldn't distinguish its screen with the Surface 2 (not sure if that was related to settings or anything). But I'm not sure that T100 has that "Clear Type" tech or w/e marketing thing it's called.

But I mean productivity wise, you can't go wrong with being able to run any x86 application. Running VMs on the other hand I'm not sure how the T100 would fair.

EDIT: and yeh this seems on the "heavy" side (~1.3kg), similar weight to the 13" MBA 2013.

    • Also x86 vs ARM

I've been using a samsung chromebook running ubuntu for a while. Covers most of my kight computing needs, but I still find myself sshing into a x86 linux box.

Silly question, Does the keyboard come included in the system? I didn't see JB mention the keyboard anywhere in the features and I know some tablets have HDMI and USB on them.

  • For 64gb, it's a good price. Tempted!!

If only it was 3G !

  • would you guys the nexus 7 32gb wifi or pay a bit extra and get this? =]

    • well depends the nexus 7 is for portability its 7inch screen vs 10inch .. you would have to compare this to the nexus 10 .. and the nexus range always get the latest firmware im not sure how good HP are with that.

If i wanted an ultra portable tablet id go nexus 7 (i have one and they are great)

    • nexus get a lot of support not just from google but from community as well. This HP has no support so far including root access or even no micro usb to connect to the pc.

      • still new…… and latest Tegra 4

      • lack of dev support is only thing holding me back and making me think about it. Complete lack of news around Nexus 10 2013 edition has me looking at other options such as this….

  • Probably beats a chromebook for roughly the same price.

Great price for the specs. 1.39kg is wayyyy too heavy though. Should be less than 1kg.

    • +1

That's the combined weight of the keyboard and the tablet, most likely due to there being a battery in the keyboard as well. The tablet alone is only around 600g which is a bit more reasonable.

Are those battery capacities correct? Even when combined with the dock, the total battery capacity is 6335mAh. Nexus 10 has a 9000mAh battery in the tablet alone. The Nexus 7 2013 has a bigger capacity battery and it's only 7". 3375mAh battery capacity is pretty close to how much a Note 2 or Note 3 has.

The Tegra 4 (codenamed "Wayne") was announced on 6 January 2013 and is functionally a SoC with a quad-core CPU, but includes a fifth low-power Cortex A15 companion core which is invisible to the OS and performs background tasks to save power, implementing an idea similar to ARM's big.LITTLE technology. The graphics on the SoC are claimed to be about 20 times faster than Tegra 2 and 6 times faster than Tegra 3.

I would probably get one if not for the battery. If using primarily in tablet mode then the battery life is going to be mediocre (as some reviews have mentioned).

Overall though, very nice specs for the price.

You can't compare mAh as the batteries in HP and Nexus 10 have different voltages.
According to the Amazon link above, the HP has 25Wh (tablet) and 21Wh (keyboard) battery, total 46Wh.
The Nexus 10's battery is 3.75V, so 33.75Wh.

      • Where do you get your "…3.75V, so 33.75Wh" specification from? According to the only reference I've found (for a replacement Samsung battery, at http://www.powerbookmedic.com/Google-Nexus-10-Battery-p-2438…), the Nexus 10's battery is only good for 22.75Wh.

        • The numbers on that page doesn't add up, since 3.75V x 9Ah = 33.75Wh.

  • I'm quite pessimist with HP android software update considering they are still new in android market

  • What are the odds that jb will have an ipad sale prior to christmas? I'm torn between getting this and waiting for the next tablet sale.

    • Only apple dictate's apple sales. Retailers aren't allowed to discount them by alot, unless you grey import.

It ruins the whole "I'm richer than you premium branding"

  • Well, I am really enjoying this. Thank you OP.
Had a couple of freezes so far, but not too bad considering the amount of time I have spent on it.
