  • Can't believe why someone would pay 650 when they can have an S3 for 399.

I mean I get the ios thing, but still what a massive premium.

I personally used to think like you too but when it comes to stability and warranty plus txting speed and etc, iPhone 5C is somewhat that better than S3 mate ;). I wasted heaps with Android phones to this conclusion, from HTC One, Galaxy S4, Note 3, Lg G2, etc. and I finally back to my iPhones because of the conveniences. Just my opinion for reference, no need to argue ^_^

      • yeah I can understand that Apple has better warranty than all of them, but I can't quite get how iOS can have better stability and txt speed than my HTC One? I reckon the slide txting feature built in is pretty damn awesome.

The thing that bothers me most is that all the warranty stories I hear are replacements.. That's great and all, but what about the waste? We're a horrible throw away society as it is.

        • I used sliding too but when you have to type multilanguages, HTC One turns me crazy lol, meanwhile iPhone would leave me alone without correcting or suggesting this and that (of course you can turn them off but in general, typing on iPhones so far the fastest to me ^_^)

Yeah I get what you mean, I personally type Chinese(Traditional) more than English, and so far the HTC input method suits me best, easy switch and good word suggestions.

The thing that bothers me most is that all the warranty stories I hear are replacements.

When they do replace the iPhone, they replace it not with new iPhones but refurbished ones. Even the ones in sealed boxes and looks new, they still carry refurbished parts — most of the time they're given a new casing but retain the original motherboard.

Meanwhile your faulty iPhone is sent to Foxconn for repairs and if it can be repaired it will be resold as a refurb, otherwise it is discarded.

        • Yeah…. Same here… May be because we're not using the stock input? I'm using third party input, and it's even has voice input when driving :) Got a Z1 from iphone and it's fast!!!!!

        • When they do replace the iPhone,….

But, who wants to wait for:-
          1) Kogan Pty Ltd to send an iP5C purchased from Kogan HK Limited back to Kogan HK Limited in Hong Kong.
          2) Then wait for Kogan HK to send it with someone to the Apple HK store to be checked and (hopefully) replaced.
          3) Then wait for Kogan HK to either send it directly back to the customer - or
          4) To wait for Kogan Pty Ltd to receive the replacement phone from Kogan HK and then send it back to the customer.

And what's the problem? It still comes with a warranty and it looks brand new. Or would you rather they took your phone away for a month to "Repair" it and then after you finally get it back it breaks again in 2 days? BTW, it's called a warranty, not a replace my old for new phone scheme, so you getting a refurbish phone for free INSTANTLY ON THE SPOT, seems like pretty good service to me.

        • Agree

        • My friend, can u explain your experience with Z1, I am looking to buy it.

I know that you are replying to ryang's comment. Which was:-

"The thing that bothers me most is that all the warranty stories I hear are replacements.. That's great and all, but what about the waste? We're a horrible throw away society as it is."

However, your comment may tend to confuse some readers. The iPhones being offered for sale on the kogan.com.au website are being sold and supplied by a Hong Kong company. They are not supported for warranty replacement, or out-of-warranty replacement, by Apple in Australia.

These iPhones, linked to by the OP of this thread, must be returned to their place of first supply by Apple - Hong Kong - in order to receive warranty support.

    • sure, if you would like entertainment experiences, the Android ones are great for that such as surfing webs, watching movies, listening to music, storage expanding, call recording (not available with iPhone, any one knows a solution please ^_^). Love music and sound quality, goes for HTC One, love creative activities like drawing -> Note 3, love long battery life -> LG G2, love the compact form, constant updates and lower price -> S4

I had a iphone 3GS - now a Galaxy S3 … so I know both worlds. I have similar apps on both operating systems.

Currently looking for a new iPhone deal … $650 is still a little bit much … but getting closer to a deal for me.

Why? It really comes down to ease of use. I might be not the typical Android geek. I just like a phone that works.

      I enjoy that
      - I only have one keyboard which just works and looks the same on all IOS devices
      - don't need to install several app stores - amazon - google - samsung to get all the apps
      - less customisation but it just works (most of the time)
      - don't need to install launchers or rooting a device to make it more usable

These are just a few … for me it is just usability.
I think there is enough room for both operating systems … at the moment they are aimed at different target groups.

To sum up, you just want something that works out of the box. You don't want choices, you want the manufacturer to have already made the choice for you. One app store — one keyboard — one theme — consistent looking UI.

Which is fine in itself, but what you just listed are not usability limitations of Android, but rather the freedom of choice. That's what Android stands for — openness and customisation, whereas Apple focuses on "1 way of doing things".

Hopefully people can actually understand why people prefer to buy Iphones despite being much more expensive than Android phones. Choices do actually boggle some people's minds and they just want something working right out of the box.

        • IOS is neat and tidy
          android is messy and dirty

        • You are absolutely right. Usability was the wrong word … more easy of use. (You can do anything or even more with an Android … ).
Me personally doesn't want too much choice or functionality …

Maybe I should try out Windows Phone before swapping back to iOS :-)

totally agree, or you would be better off buying from DickSmith with Gift Cards that purchased by Wish Gift Card for a 5% + $100 OFF, which means if you purchase Wish gift cards first, you save 5%, then use them for DickSmith gift card for $50 off every $500 spend ($550 gift card for $500) ;). At least save you $150 if purchased $1,000 Wish gift card(s) then use them (cost only $950) to get $1,100 of value at DickSmith and pay another $29 in cash or whatever ^_^. Make it the cheapest with local warranty in Australia, you can even bring it straight to Apple stores for warranty purpose lol

    • its now $999 instead of an insane $1129 that Apple is charging.

$130 saving. Hmmmm… - how much do I think a local warranty of (effectively) two years, plus (chargeable) out-of-warranty replacements for even longer, is worth?

  • Nexus 5 at 399 bucks smashes that phone out of the water imo, pure Google phone is the way forward, apple are far too restrictive.

    • I got my first Nexus 5 32GB from Google, the battery life and sound quality turned me away from it immediately after playing for 2 days

      • Battery life does me for the day easy, speaker sound quality is good but not brilliant, is it worth 400 dollars more for a apple phone , the answer is no.

  • If you still consider in between iPhone 5C and iPhone 5, just get iPhone 5C because: better battery, better scratch-resistance, no more 'purple rings' on photos, faster speed (test by opening games and you will realize this), wider range support of LTE 4G, etc ;)

  • I have an iphone 5s and HTC One, getting rid of the 5s. Screen too small, ios keyboard isn't as good with no options to change it, the sound quality isn't as good as the HTC either. At the end of the day each to their own, but for me I wouldn't choose iphone over most android flagship phones.

If you had a 1080p 5inch display, you can't go back to iphone. When I'm looking at my wife's 5s, it's just too small and even feels like a toy sometime.

  • to help summarize this debate, I have a really massive penis.

Y do any apple deals posted on ozbargain (or anywhere else) always turn into android vs apple fartfest?

    • +1

Because of two groups of people who will never understand each other.

  • So, the iPhone 5C 32GB in white for $672 delivered. A saving of $197 on an Australian Market 5C 32GB with local Apple warranty support and out-of-warranty replacements.

Getting close to being a bargain. A $250 saving would be the 'tipping point' for me.

In other colours for $702 delivered. 'Only' a $167 saving - not so close to a bargain.

Not again iOS or android debate, it really upto user what he wants

  • The user can want whatever they want, but lets face it, if you're going to buy a premium product, buy a damn actual premium product (5S), the 5C is a complete waste of money.
