Navman Move 50 5'' GPS for $87 at JB Hi-Fi with Lifetime Free Maps

160

Hi guys,

Long time reader, first time posting. Please go easy on me ;) . I couldn't find anywhere cheaper and this looks like a great deal considering you get 'Lifetime free maps' as mentioned on JB Hi-Fi's main home page. I did call them up about stock and asked them about the free lifetime maps and they said it does come with GPS upon redemption. If your local JB Hi-Fi has run out of stock, the Good Guys also sell this item for the same price. Not sure when this deal will expire.

  • Good guys Oxley has it at 85.50 same deal.

    • is that with discount upon paying cash? I'm still seeing $87 on their website…?

      • I think only at that store and pay cash.

  • 'Lifetime free maps' - what is the catch?

You have to download them from the internet.

Also I think Lifetime refers to the lifetime of the device, not you.

      • You do have to apply to it though, but it's just registering the product.

    • I think it lets you download only 4 maps a year.

    From Navman website

    http://www.navman.com.au/lifetime-free-maps/

"Navman’s “Lifetime, Free Maps Built-In” entitles you to receive up a minimum of two and a maximum of four map data updates annually, when and as such updates are made available from the Navman website. This feature is available on selected models only. It is also, only for the specific Navman product, until that product’s useful life expires or Navman no longer receives map data from its third party supplier, whichever is shorter. The updates you receive will be updates to the same geographic map data originally included with your Navman product when originally purchased. Full terms and conditions are available at the link below.

I dont see anything that mentions Navman Move 50 with "lifetime map updates" here. Please correct me if im wrong.

    • yeah all I can see if 3 year free maps. Anyway not sure if GPS will last that long. My Tomtom started acting weird sometimes after 2-3 years of use

      .
it says only " 3 Years Free Maps " even the graphic Godfather links to states it !
either JB have recently updated their specs or TheGodfather2012 needs an eye test ;)
      .

      • Please check the homepage and you will see what i mean http://www.jbhifi.com.au/, if you click on picture/link on homepage to look closer at the deal it still states it in 1 of 2 pics displayed. The other pic states what that lifetime free maps includes. I said lifetime (life of device), never mentioned unlimited free maps…

It says lifetime free maps at the Good Guys website with the same price as JB - http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/buyonline/Navman_Move_50_5%22_…

I'm considering buying this (using store credit from last laptop purchased from GG) - does anyone own this could share their experience?

    Thanks in advance

  • All maps are lifetime these days anyway. It's not really a selling point like it used to be in the past.

I bought my Garmin GPS 4 years ago and at the time if I wanted updated maps I'd have to buy it. Registered my device for the first time a couple months back, and turns out they offer it free now.

GPS manufacturers can't sell updated maps in today's age because people just pirate the maps online for free anyway, so they end up just giving away updated maps nowadays.

So what I'm saying is, don't be fooled by the marketing term "Life-time free maps". It should have no value on the price of the GPS unit.

    Wow - a 505" GPS !!

  • Just bought a Navman Move 50 5" GPS at JB Hi Fi Woden for $69.60. It was not on the display board for all their GPS - these were all over $100. Had to ask staff = Joe who checked on web on Mac in store.

Web page Joe turned up showed both 3 year and lifetime maps - had two pictures attached one for each maps option (3yr & lifetime) - confusing.

Shrink wrap sealed box had a $125 price sticker on it but rang up as $69.60 and that is what was paid for it. Took around half an hour what with waiting for staff and getting the right guy (Joe) and queuing to pay. Unsure form JB web content if it has both Australia and NZ or just Australia - will find out with testing and registering it I guess.
