If its local stock, 1 or 2 year warranty shouldn't really be an issue anymore. As a consumer, you are covered by the Australian Consumer Law (ACL). The additional warranty doesn't really provide you with anything above and beyond the ACL/Consumer Guarantees. So arm yourself with that knowledge when bargaining for a new camera, don't let the misinformed (or informed) salesperson give you the runaround!

Very true …..I've quoted the ACL a number of times this year to have products (with no extended warranty) repaired well outside the 12 month warranty period.

GG and JB simultaneously dropped their price to $399 a couple of weeks back.

The 2 year warranty is from Canon Australia. It has nothing to with GG, or JB. If a salesperson told you this as a benefit, then they lied.

All Australian Canon stock come with 2 years warranty from Canon. As moo mentioned though, consumer warranty means you get a longer warranty anyway, hence why many companies are now switching to 2+ years for local stock by-default.

Also, anyone who buys this make sure you update the firmware ASAP, to the v2.0.2, or you'll start cursing when it does not focus correctly.

After the firmware upgrade, its quite a nice package for the price.

    • Hi Xuqi,

I bought it today from GG, it is already updated to new version 2.0.2 and it is marked with small sticker on the box.

  • Dupe

  • Some bank debit or credit cards include an extra one year warranty on new purchases.

  • tempted to get one of these to replace my Canon 500D… will I regret it?

    • AF is slower. With the new firmware it is much better than before, but still nowhere near other Canon DSLR cameras, or Panasonic m4/3 camera's I've owned. You can get a lens adaptor for it though, and use the entire Canon range with it.

      Here's mine mounted with a 50mm f1.4; http://www.overclockers.com.au/pix/yx35a

IQ, and video recording are fine, and you end up with a much smaller kit.

      • the smaller kit argument doesnt make sense at all. You still end up carrying more gears, e.g the adapter plus the flash and the size reduce is not much difference after you've factor in all the extras

        • As julz (and others) mentioned when required, you can just slap on the 22mm lens, and have a very small package capable (much smaller than any DSLR) of taking decent photos.

      • Cool thanks for the input - I'd probably use the 22mm prime most of the time and pull out the EF lenses I have when needed. Main thing is that the camera retains the high IQ of a DSLR whilst being portable especially when on holidays. Might bite the bullet and get one from TGG if they can offer any additional discount based on their less for cash deal :)

  • How is this compare to Nikon V1?

The good guys are idiots. I went to buy a sony camera off them the other day shelf price $369 and told the salesman that it was $349 at Harvey Norman and he goes to his computer and says we have 45 full time price checkers and they have not reported this so I can not price match, then he walks away. So I drove back to Harvey Norman and bought it from them.

      • +3

Because, lets be honest, no one likes HN.
