    • I wish I worked at Woolworths so I could get a staff card.

    • +5

Card has the employee's name on it, and if your caught with someone elses card they get fired. They are pretty strict about the cards

        • +4

If you came across a particularly anal checkout person, they could ask for ID to verify that you are the owner of the staff card…

            • +1

@alexportnoy: Don't you mean that you will rip someone else's card from their hands? Or perhaps saving yourself, leaving the other person's card in the hand of the staff. Hmmmmm nice.

            • @alexportnoy: Okay if you produce a fake document in order to benefit you financially, isn't this some type of fraud?

              • -3

@Kranbone: Police aren't interested in this type of "fraud".

                • +1

@alexportnoy: That's a pretty daft thing to say, fraud is fraud. No matter how small the crime is, it's still a crime.

                  • -5

                    @Kranbone: Not true.

NSW Police haven't got the resources to investigate every single incident of fraud.

To be totally frank, they don't really care. They care about rapists, car rebirthers and bikies.

That's why NSW Police only give you a $50 fine for small (under $300) amounts of fraud (aka "Obtain benefit by deception") & larceny (stealing) offences:

                    http://www.police.nsw.gov.au/community_issues/the_law_and_yo…

                    and

                    http://www.police.nsw.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0009/108…

This $50 can be paid in installments and also, there is no criminal conviction.

In short, Police don't care about petty crime any more.

They've got more important things to investigate; more important fish to fry.

                    • @alexportnoy: Strangely enough police care about all crime from fraudulent credit cards and drivers license which retail assistants in my old store picked up on well to even fake cards. They were also taken to the station too, don't know what happens after that but wouldn't want something stupid and petty on my record.

  • -3

does that include apple products too?

    • +1

look at the pamphlet before you ask

  • -3

Shame that woolworths illegally discriminate against who they offer employment to, so I'm not able to take this offer up

    • Not sure who voted me down, but when you go for a second interview at woolworths, they actually ask you illegal questions against the DDA and then refuse you employment based on that answer!

      • +1

        Sounds exciting.. Mind elaborating?

  • +3

Hmmm, this offer isn't available at franchise stores so you'd have to make sure the one you go to is corporate owned.

And it seems to include Apple as well from the PDF that TheGunslinger posted… there's a few models on special.

Hmmm, the additional offers seem pretty good too! 50% off D-Link, then another 10% off; 20% off Logi then take another 10% off; Sennheiser 15% off then another 10% off.

    • -4

this offer isn’t available at franchise stores so you’d have to make sure the one you go to is corporate owned.

There's like maybe 5 Franchise stores somewhere in Hicksville.

All the other stores are always Franchise stores.

  • +4

If it not open to public - why bother posting it here?

    • +1

      Precisely :(

  • +2

i know its not open to everyone, but people might not be aware that it was on.

The thing is, if you know someone that worked for woolies and saw something worth buying, then you could get something if they were happy to purchase it for you.

the % off brands and then an extra 10% off as well seemed like a decent saving that some people could do with.

if you are going to post that you aren't eligible make a purchase, then i can't help that. It's just bad luck.

  • Thanks for this, that TV looks cheap!

I'm sure most people know someone that has a discount card, I do! :)

    • +3

We heard you the first time. Spare cards still have the workers name on it. Why are you always so negative towards deals here? The Woolworths group is fairly large and employs a lot of people. While this might be a more restricted bargain than most posted, it could still be of genuine benefit to some people.

      Example:

1// Say you are a friend of someone who work's at Woolies or Big W and you wanted something at Dick Smith, perfect time to hear about this bargain that chances are you wouldn't have heard about.
2// Maybe you do work in the Woolworths group but this wasn't passed on to you.

  • +1

thanks for sharing this. luckily, i have a friend who is an employee of woolworths and i emailed them about this (not sure if they were aware of it) and am meeting up with them tomorrow at a dse store.

  • -1

yea ima get myself some stuff lol. working at tandy is sickk

  • -3

Have to vote this down if it's not available to everyone.

    • +1

      Are you serious?

There are MANY bargains posted here that are only available in NSW and not in QLD. I don't go around voting them all down?

I would say this offer is MORE avaliable then other offers as its not hard to find a friend or even a friend of a friend that works at woolworths.

I know people that work at Woolworths, Tandy and Dick Smith.

      • -2

Ok, I rephrase, have to vote this down because it's not available to the general public. Unless you are buying big ticket items, it's not worth the trouble to ring up a friend, let alone friend of a friend, to save a few bucks.

        • Thats a stupid reason to vote -ve. I always see bargains in other states but I don't vote them down just because I can't get to them. Sheesh. If it's a bargain and I am not eligible for some reason then fair enough. But a bargain is a bargain for those who can get it.

          • -1

@AntMan76: Well, no matter where you live, you still have to be a staff or know someone who is in order to take advantage. So not a deal!

            • -4

              @browser: Agree with Browser

            • +4

@browser: Hey there browser. I think the idea of voting a negative on a bargain is if you don't believe it is a bargain or if the bargain is misleading, not because it doesn't apply to you or to the "general public". There are constantly bargains being posted that are only relevant to members of a particular group/organisation, for example, recently bargains posted have included:

and there are many more (just do a search on "members"). None of these have been voted negative for the reason that it isn't available to the public.

In this Dick Smith/Tandy bargain and all these other bargains, the poster normally indicates in the title that it is for members/staff of a particular group/organisation, so, in my opinion, I think as an OzBargainer, you should use some discretion as to whether you should view the bargain and vote on it if it doesn't apply to you.

I think this is a great bargain because I was about to buy an external hard drive which is on special in the current DSE catalogue and, luckily, as I have a friend who is an employee of Woolworths, I can now take advantage of getting an extra 10% off - equating to another $15 off - which is even more than price matching with Officeworks.

              • -1

@zoeric: Yes, but all of those offers are open to the public. If you're interested all you need to do is join as a member and you're able to. In fact, in three of those cases, it's free, for the fourth you do have to pay to be a member, but it's still open to the public.

For this offer it's not open to the public, whether you're interested in it or not. If you see something you like, you still can't get it if you're not an employee. As some said you may be able to if you know someone, but:
                a) that still requires you to know someone who's an employee, which may not be the case and
                b) is probably not permitted under their terms and then means you can't pay by credit card due to mismatching names. As it's more likely you'd chase someone up for the big ticket items, this is probably even more relevant.

I'm sure people could post up their other employee offers, but they're not really relevant to anyone who's not an employee and therefore aren't much use and if you're any employee, there are probably better ways to find out the offers in most cases.

                • @odysseus: odysseus:

What about these offers which only applies to university students (and TAFE for one of them)?

You can't really just "join" as a member because you have to apply to get into university and undertake some studies. There are strict processes/guidelines to be able to get into uni, just as there are processes/guidelines to get employed by Woolworths/DSE/Tandy or any other company.

In reference to (b), my brother works at JB Hi-Fi and he used his staff discount card for some purchases I made and paid for on my credit card and my cousin works at Kmart and he used his staff discount card for purchases I made and paid for on my credit card. In both instances, they were there with me at the register and no questions were asked about mismatching names.

Employee offers, such as a 10% off storewide, could be relevant on OzBargain due to the number of visitors to the site as it alerts them to these offers which, if they know someone who works there, then they can take advantage of it. I doubt that if you were an employee of a store that was having a great staff sale that you would email every single person you know about it.

As I previously wrote, "in my opinion…as an OzBargainer, you should use some discretion as to whether you should view the bargain and vote on it…". If you did know someone who worked at Woolworths or DSE or Tandy, would you still vote a negative on this? And if you don't, do you actually read every single bargain to determine whether it is open to you or not, and then vote a negative on the bargain because it doesn't?

                • +1

@odysseus: As long as the person who is named on the card hands over the card (ie the card isn't given to another person) then it's fine.

According to Woolworths, 1 in 63 Australians work for Woolworths (it's on a poster at work)

  • +1

    VERY TRUE….

Bargain is a bargain,, i know many friends working there, and the ad really helped me..thanks to the "TheGunslinger"..

but on the other side, i will spend most of my savings..but can't resists from it.

  • -4

    Very good offer.

Does anyone know of any kind checkout-register staff at any Sydney DSE that don't mind you using their card to get a discount, simply by saying "Can you swipe your staff card before you sell this to me, please?".

    No?

    I didn't think so!

    • +1

Like I said above, the idea of this post was to inform of the special. The Woolworths group being such a large employer, chances are people can benefit from friends of friends or family. I know I will be. The person who owns the card has to be there, having said that the last time this happened I got a really AWESOME deal.

Perhaps if you weren't so negative, you'd probably have more friends.

      • Kranbone, will you be my friend?

        • +1

          You're better off adopting :P

  • +1

I do have to say, people seem to think Woolworths is so large that everyone has friends who work in the company. That is a strange belief cos reality is Woolworths is just not that large if you are taking into account the people who are employees and not the people who may shop at woolworths stores. For instance NRMA special is for people who are CLIENTS of NRMA rather than EMPLOYEES, i would go as far as to say NRMA has far more clients than Employees. How many employees does the woolworths group have per state? 10,000? 20,000? And i am talking about NSW here. No idea, it could be way more than that but there are 4 million people roughly if not more so….if you can say woolworths has at least 1million employees then it might be considered a lot but if it doesnt then…..?

    • -1

Woolworths has over 180,000 employees. It is the largest private employer in Australia.

  • Yes, that's true.

Woolworths has more shoppers than employees.

  • So much angst, chill out people…….

  • +1

Seems like some poor babies need to find more friends. Why not chat up a checkout chick? You never know when the next staff card day might be on.

  • +1

Thanks for posting this. I am a staff member but have not heard about this until now.
Don't let others discourage you from posting deals like this in the future, as my local store doesnt always have the latest staff discount information posted up.
    Cheers!

  • +1

I got the 32" LCD for $500 and its great :)
Also got a 100 pack of verbatim for $26.

  • I'm glad people got some good deals out of this special.

I ended up with the dlink dap-1150 wireless g access point and the logitech harmony 525 for $114 together.

  • 1 in every ~110 in Australia is a woolworth employee. Although it's not technically available to everyone (and I'm sure some of those employees don't have a card), statistically - it's pretty close. Don't get bitter because you don't have 110 friends :(

Thanks for the academically-oriented bargainers who duly noted that Woolworths has more shoppers than employees. Where would anyone be without you, sherlock…

    • Well since someone wanted to point out the NRMA - Rebel sale, i wanted to show the difference of being a client of a company and a staff member. A company always has a lot more clients than staff members. Secondly I have a lot more than 110 friends and not one of them works for woolworths thank you very much. I did know of a couple but they left and never wanted to return since employees arent really treated that well there anymore. Same goes for people who used to work at DSE but since woolworths took that over, apparently the employees just werent treated that well.

But if you want to be insulting about it, then its your perogative.

      • Then that sucks for you - statistics were on your side.

Didn't mean to come across as insulting.. Just i fail to see the merits many are negative voting on.

        http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/12519 - Local Bargain
        http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/12511 - Local bargain

I don't really care enough to continue looking through it - the point is that bargains that are geographically isolated are not discriminated against in these instances, hence: who cares?

If it was for a private, exclusive club that has 10 members.. okay, fair call. Neg away. But when it's a company with ~180k employees (and staff also get a card for a relative if they're part/full time), suck it up.

        • Not necessarily, perhaps statistics would be on peoples side who are younger, since a lot of the woolworths employees would be of a younger age except for the more administrative and head office roles.

Secondly WHERE DID I VOTE Negative? Do you see any negative votes from me anywhere?

This kind of attitude is exactly why i refrain from communicating on public forums like these, people seem to feel they can act in such a rude manner where they never would face to face.

          • @lonewolf: Secondly WHERE DID I VOTE Negative? Do you see any negative votes from me anywhere?

Nope - do you see me inferring that you, in particular, neg'd anywhere?
