Gigabit Wireless Modem/Router Suggestions

Hey looking for suggestions for a new router as my current one is at least 5-6 years old and very outdated

Some Features i would prefer:

  • Built-in Modem
  • Atleast Wireless N
  • Minimum 4 gigabit ports
  • Good range, reliability and with no dropouts

Price is not really a problem but would like to keep it under $200

was thinking either the Netgear D6200 or Netgear DGND3700 V2 … can anyone comment on these

thanks in advance

  • Not under $200 as far as I know but, like PC Magazine and APC, the best performance modem/router is still the AVM Fritz!Box 7390.

  • I have a Netgear WNDR38000 which I'm happy with. Tried Cisco/Netsys and they are not good, ended up replacing 2 of them before getting a refund. The only thing I would say is that with any of the wireless N products, make sure your device can run at N speeds in both frequency ranges ie 2.4 & 5 Ghz if you want to take full advantage of the faster Wireless. My laptop has N type network card but will only run in the 2.4ghz range so cannot take full advantage of the dual band speed which the router can handle. Whilst I got caught out, I'm still happy as I'm still getting much faster wireless than I had before on my old b/g speed router. If you are looking at connecting an external drive to the USB port on the router its a waste of time…too slow. I use a network connected drive to the 1Gig port which gives excellent speed.

  • TP Link TD-W8960N

About $50 and a solid performer. It has good reviews on Whirlpool.

    • Bought a TD-W8968 recently for my dad, which is very similar to TD-W8960N. Do note that it does not have Gigabit ethernet so won't suit OP's need.
